Myopericytoma on the nasal turbinate.

Myopericytoma is a mesenchymal tumour that shares characteristics with other soft tissue tumours including glomus tumours and myofibromas. These pericytic tumours show characteristic perivascular growth patterns (Sbaraglia M, Bellan E, Dei Tos AP. The 2020 WHO classification of soft tissue tumours: news and perspectives. Pathologica 2021;113:70-84. https://doi.org/10.32074/1591-951X-213). Myopericytoma differentiates itself as it tends to have a spindle shape histologically, rather than an epithelioid shape as with the glomus variety. Myopericytoma rarely demonstrate malignant behaviour. A 67-

A case of myopericytoma on the lower leg.

Myopericytoma (MP) is a benign tumor composed of cells that show apparent differentiation towards putative perivascular myoid cells called myopericytes. It arises most commonly in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue of the extremities in adults. The most common presentation is a well-circumscribed, slow-growing painless firm mass. A 45-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of a painless, slowly growing 0.9×0.7 cm sized firm mass in the subcutaneous tissue of the posterior side of the right lower leg. We presumed this lesion to be an epidermal cyst, pilomatricoma or calcinosis cutis and

Myopericytoma in the mandible: A case report.

Myopericytoma is a rare tumour especially in the oral and maxillofacial region. This case report describes a case that occurred in the left body of the mandible in a 36-year-old Caucasian female who presented with a sudden onset presentation of two weeks of pain and developing paraesthesia. Clinically a palpable mass was present near the left mental foramen and radiographically a radiolucent well-defined lesion was visible. An excisional biopsy of the lesion was performed with histopathology results demonstrating a myopericytoma. The clinical presentation and location of this lesion appears to

Myopericytoma tumor of the glans penis.

Myopericytoma is a low grade spindle cell neoplasm largely occurring in skin. We describe the first reported case of a penile myopericytoma. Histologically, the penile tumor was composed of a perivascular proliferation of tumor cells with ovoid shaped nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was reactive for markers of smooth muscle differentiation and vascular differentiation. The tumor was noted to be negative for BRAF by immunohistochemistry and wild-type upon gene sequencing using SnaPshot. Our finding serves to expand the anatomical distribution of myop

Myopericytoma of the tongue: a case report.

Myopericytoma is a rare benign tumour composed of pericytic cells that show myoid differentiation and have a tendency for concentric perivascular growth. It belongs to a spectrum ofperivascular myoid cell neoplasms. To date, only a small number of cases of myopericytoma involving the oral cavity have been reported. We describe a case of myopericytoma presenting as a slowly growing tongue nodule in a 61-year-old woman. A diagnosis of myopericytoma was established with the histopathological findings combined with immunohistochemical staining. Myopericytoma should be included in the differential

Myopericytoma of the dorsum of the foot: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Myopericytoma is a rare, typically benign perivascular soft tissue tumor arising from myopericytes. It most commonly affects the extremities and can recur locally after excision. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 42-year-old male who presented with painful, multiple subcutaneous nodules over the right lateral foot and dorsum, gradually increasing over a 2-year period. The patient had undergone surgical excision of similar lesions from the same site 3 years prior. Clinical examination revealed firm, subcutaneous nodules with a positive Tinel's sign. Mag

Myopericytoma: a rare case of parapharyngeal localization.

This case study presents a 66-year-old man referred to the Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery department due to a one-history of persistent pain in the left posterior cervical region. No abnormalities were detected in the oral and pharyngeal regions during clinical and endoscopic examinations. Subsequently, a magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lesion (14 × 12 × 14 mm) into the left parapharyngeal space, with high signal intensity on T2-weighted images, enhancement after contrast medium, restricted signal on diffusion weighted imaging and high vascularization on perfusion MRI. The hist

Multiple myopericytoma of the face and parotid gland.

Myopericytoma is a benign tumor that is composed of myoid-appearing oval to spindle-shaped cells with a concentric perivascular pattern of growth. The tumor is morphologically heterogeneous and can exhibit a broad histologic spectrum. We describe a case of multiple myopericytoma occurring in the head and neck skin region with involvement of the parotid gland where it is known to occur very rarely. A 40-year-old woman noticed multiple enlarging, painless, round-shaped masses on her left cheek. The patient had experienced a similar lesion of the same area 8 years earlier which was completely exc

Periampullary Epstein-Barr virus-associated myopericytoma.

Although myopericytoma occurs predominantly in the extremities, a wider anatomical distribution, malignant variant, and association with Epstein-Barr virus have been recognized recently. However, benign, malignant, or Epstein-Barr virus-myopericytoma has not been documented in the gastrointestinal tract to date. We report a periampullary Epstein-Barr virus-myopericytoma in a patient with AIDS who presented with obstructive jaundice. The tumor contained round, oval, and plump spindle cells arranged around and between slit-like, dilated, and staghorn vessels. A malignant variant was favored base

Intravascular Myopericytoma of the Foot: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Myopericytoma is a rare pericytic tumor, typically occurring in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, though cases in internal organs and bones have been reported. Clinically, it presents as a painless, slow-growing mass, making differential diagnosis challenging. Imaging alone is often insufficient due to overlapping characteristics with angioleiomyoma, glomus tumors, and solitary fibrous tumors (SFT). Histopathological examination is essential for accurate diagnosis. Here, we report a rare case of intravascular myopericytoma of the foot. MRI findings suggested multiple differential diagnoses, bu

Large congenital myopericytoma of the lower eyelid.

Congenital fibrous soft tissue tumors in the eyelids are exceptionally rare, with only seven cases of neonatal myofibromas reported. Myopericytoma, a variant with pericytic differentiation, has not previously been described in neonatal eyelid tumors. This report details a case of a massive congenital myopericytoma in a newborn's lower eyelid. The lesion had a broad area of adhesion to the anterior lamella of the lid. After resection, when the child was 11 days old, the resulting defect was successfully reconstructed with a V-Y type perforator-based flap.

Myopericytoma in urinary bladder: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Myopericytoma is reported to occur mainly in the skin and superficial soft tissue of the extremities. In contrast, occurrence in the urinary bladder is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 75-year-old Japanese man who developed a submucosal tumor at the right trigone of his bladder that led to interference with the discharge of right ureteral calculus. No invasive growth was observed by magnetic resonance imaging. Transurethral resection was successfully performed; histopathological analysis revealed perivascular proliferation of spindle-shaped to oval-shaped, cytologi

Myopericytoma proliferating in an unusual anastomosing multinodular fashion.

We herein describe a case of myopericytoma that proliferated in an unusual fashion. Myopericytoma is described as a group of rare, benign, dermal or subcutaneous tumors that are characterized histologically by a striking, concentric, perivascular proliferation of spindle cells and showing apparent differentiation towards perivascular myoid cells. Myopericytoma forms a morphological continuum with myofibroma/myofibromatosis, glomus tumor and angioleiomyoma. The patient was a 64-year-old woman who demonstrated a recurrent ulcer on an atrophic plaque on her left shin. A histopathological examinat

Myopericytoma of low grade malignancy in the oral cavity.

Myopericytoma (MPC) of the oral cavity is extremely rare. Herein reported is a case of MPC of low grade malignancy in the oral cavity. A 61-year-old man noticed a tumor of the cheek mucosa, and admitted to our hospital. Oral examination revealed a reddish elevated tumor of the cheek mucosa. Tumorectomy with wide margins was performed. The clinical diagnosis was pyogenic granuloma. Grossly, the tumor was reddish, and measured 1×1×1 cm. Microscopically, oval to spindle tumor cells with hyperchromatic vesicular nuclei and many vasculatures were seen. The tumor cells were contiguous and mixed with

Atypical location of a rare tumor: orbital myopericytoma.

A 46-year-old man presented with a 2-year history of progressive visual acuity loss in his right eye. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a well-circumscribed, isodense intraconal lesion at the apex of the right orbit. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a solid, hyperintense lesion on T2-weighted images with heterogeneous enhancement after gadolinium contrast administration. The resection of the mass was performed via a lateral orbitotomy. Complete excision was not possible due to dense adhesions to deep structures, and intraoperative manipulations to dissect the tumor from its attac

Myopericytoma presenting as a painful dark subungual discoloration.

Myopericytoma is an uncommon benign neoplasm that arises from the perivascular myoid cells. It typically presents as a painless well-circumscribed cutaneous or soft-tissue nodule, most commonly on the extremities of adults. Histologically, it is characterized by spindle-shaped myoid-appearing cells with a concentric arrangement in vessel walls, that are immunoreactive to alpha-smooth muscle actin and often for h-caldesmon, but negative for other smooth muscle markers. Herein, we present an unusual case of a painful subungual myopericytoma presenting as a dark subungual discoloration.
