Daffodils (Narcissus species) are the most common cause of irritant contact dermatitis among florists. Calcium oxalate crystals contained in the sap of the daffodil plants lead to irritant contact dermatitis on the skin. Daffodil rash commonly presents with fissuring, scaling, and erythema of the fingertips, hands, and forearms. The best preventative measure is to wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing.

Empathy plays a critical role in fostering and maintaining social relations. Narcissists lack empathy, and this may account for their interpersonal failures. But why do narcissists lack empathy? Galanthamine is an Amaryllidaceae-type alkaloid with acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity which is used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The distribution of galanthamine and four other alkaloids in different organs of Narcissus confusus plants, as well as the variations occurring during the ontogenic cycle of this plant species, was studied. This study compares the chloroform extracts of bulbs and roots of Narcissus papyraceus Ker Gawl. and Narcissus tazetta L. Advanced empirical research and clinical theory suggest that narcissistic personality states fluctuate over time. However, these fluctuations are poorly understood. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the ethyl acetate antimicrobial fraction from the hydroalcoholic extract of the fresh Narcissus tazetta L. flowers afforded a new antimicrobial compound, tazettin (1), along with 3-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (2), methyl-3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (3), and syringic acid (4). Anthers of Chinese narcissus (Narcissus tazetta L. var chinesis Roem) were used as explants for callus induction and plant regeneration. About 80% anthers produced callus and 28% of the callus differentiated out bulbs, making a good experiment system of tissue culture of Chinese narcissus for further cellular and gene engineering. The 700 callus were treated by 0.5% colchicin for 5-6 days and then transformed into a MS medium containing 3 mg/L 6-BA to induce differentiation. 90 bulbs were obtained and 55 bulbs among them were checked the chromosome number from their root tips for three times.

Galanthamine, an alkaloid present in the Amaryllidaceae is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's. Common daffodils, Narcissus spp., contain galanthamine and other alkaloids. Four commercial Narcissus cultivars were evaluated as potential sources of galanthamine. Planting depths, planting densities, bulb size or flower bud removal did not affect galanthamine content.
