Beneficial Effects of Fractions of Nardostachys jatamansi on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Inflammatory Response.

It has been previously shown that Nardostachys jatamansi (NJ) exhibits anti-inflammatory properties against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenges. However, the potency of NJ constituents against LPS-induced inflammatory responses has not been examined. In this present study, we determined which NJ extract fractions exhibit inhibitory effects against LPS-induced inflammatory responses. Among the NJ fractions, NJ-1, NJ-3, NJ-4, and NJ-6 inhibited LPS-induced production of NO. The NJ-3, NJ-4, and NJ-6 fractions also inhibited the production of cytokines, such as IL-1 β , IL-6, and TNF- α . However,

Jatamansinol from Nardostachys jatamansi Ameliorates Tau-Induced Neurotoxicity in Drosophila Alzheimer's Disease Model.

Nardostachys jatamansi has long been used to prepare Medhya Rasayana in traditional Indian Ayurveda medicine to treat neurological disorders and enhance memory. Jatamansinol from the N. jatamansi against Alzheimer's disease (AD) showed that it could be a multitargeted drug against AD. Drosophila is an ideal model organism for studying a progressive age-related neurodegenerative disease such as AD since its neuronal organizations and functioning are highly similar to that of humans. The current study investigates the neuroprotective properties of jatamansinol against Tau-induced neurotoxicity i

Neuroprotective Potential of Nardostachys jatamansi Extract via Keap1-Nrf2 Pathway Regulation in Parkinson's Disease.

The Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1)-Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway is integral to cellular defense mechanisms against oxidative and xenobiotic stress by neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS). An increase in ROS levels is a significant factor in the advancement of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Consequently, the development of effective Keap1 inhibitors that disrupt the Keap1-Nrf2 interactions and subsequently enhance Nrf2's transcriptional activity may represent promising therapeutic avenues for NDDs. Given that Nardostachys jatamansi (N. jatamansi), a m

Attenuation by Nardostachys jatamansi of 6-hydroxydopamine-induced parkinsonism in rats: behavioral, neurochemical, and immunohistochemical studies.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the commonest neurodegenerative diseases, and oxidative stress has been evidenced to play a vital role in its causation. In the present study, we evaluated whether ethanolic extract of Nardostachys jatamansi roots (ENj), an antioxidant and enhancer of biogenic amines, can slow the neuronal injury in a 6-OHDA-rat model of Parkinson's. Rats were treated with 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg body weight of ENj for 3 weeks. On day 21, 2 microl of 6-OHDA (12 microg in 0.01% in ascorbic acid-saline) was infused into the right striatum, while the sham-operated group received

Characterization and determination of the major constituents in whitening-potential aqueous extract of Nardostachys jatamansi DC.

Aqueous extract of Nardostachys jatamansi DC. (AENJ) is well-known for activities such as alleviating acute pancreatitis, improving cardiac function, and suppressing melanin synthesis. However, quality control of the underlying chemical constituents has not yet been explicitly raised. To tackle the issue, thirty-eight batches of N. jatamansi were collected, and an ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) method was established by coupling with the fingerprint of traditional Chinese medicine and similarity analysis. Then, seven common peaks were selected with batch similarity > 0.93

Reduced root lignification resulting from enhanced brassinosteroid signaling compromises waterlogging tolerance in Nardostachys jatamansi seedlings.

The alpine plant Nardostachys jatamansi is highly sensitive to waterlogging stress, and phytohormone signaling plays a critical role in its adaptation to this abiotic stress. Nevertheless, the involvement of brassinosteroid signaling in the response of N. jatamansi to waterlogging stress remains poorly characterized. In this study, 5 μM 24-epibrassinolide was applied to N. jatamansi seedlings via foliar spraying, which promotes primary root elongation and lateral root initiation. However, in contrast to previous findings, this pretreatment reduced the tolerance of N. jatamansi seedlings to wat

Phenotypic differentiation in the Himalayan medicinal plant Nardostachys jatamansi: morpho-physiological and phytochemical variation across elevation gradients.

Phenotypic variation occurs across heterogeneous habitats. As a medicinally valuable species widely distributed across subalpine to alpine regions of the Himalayas, Nardostachys jatamansi exhibits a remarkable ecological breadth, though the consequences of its geographic variation remain poorly understood. In this study, individuals with spatulate leaves and fibrous leaf sheaths (type I) were predominantly distributed in the southern regions of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, which were characterized by warmer and moister climates. In contrast, those with lanceolate leaves and lamellar sheaths (t
