BACKGROUND: The United Kingdom and the United States are among several developed countries currently experiencing nursing shortages. While the USA has not yet implemented policies to encourage nurse immigration, nursing shortages will likely result in the growth of foreign nurse immigration to the USA. Understanding the factors that drive the migration of nurses is critical as the USA exerts more pull on the foreign nurse workforce.
AIM: To predict the international migration of nurses to the UK using widely available data on country characteristics.
METHOD: The Nursing and Midwifery Council

Alcohol and other substance use by nurses potentially places patients, the public, and nurses themselves at risk for serious injury or death. Nursing students are also at risk for problems related to substance use. When viewed and treated as a chronic medical illness, treatment outcomes for substance use disorders are comparable with those of other diseases and can result in lasting benefits. Professional monitoring programs that employ an alternative-to-discipline approach have been shown to be effective in the treatment of health professionals with substance use disorders and are considered

OBJECTIVES: International healthcare personnel face significant challenges in language acquisition. We investigated whether virtual patient interaction (VI) training can support professional integration and clinical language proficiency.
METHODS: In an explorative controlled study, 25 international nursing staff undergoing professional qualification measures in Germany were included. The intervention group (n=13) received access to casuu, a digital simulation tool providing interactive communication scenarios with virtual patients and colleagues. The control group (n=12) followed standard lan

BACKGROUND: The need for a more integrated, multidisciplinary approach to care for individuals with bleeding or clotting disorders has been highlighted in recent years. Evidence-based education adapted to nurses' needs is essential for a successful evolution. However, limited data currently exist on the clinical challenges nurses face in this specialty area.
OBJECTIVES: Identify barriers and challenges faced by specialty nurses, and determine possible causes, to develop appropriate educational interventions.
METHODS: A mixed-methods study, combining qualitative (semi-structured interviews) a

Since the mid-1970s, the Margaret Sanger Center of Planned Parenthood of New York City has prepared nurses and nurse midwives from less developed countries to be family-planning nurse practitioners. These nurse practitioners then provide services to patients, train other staff, and manage integrated family-planning clinics. More than 120 nurses and nurse midwives have arrived in groups of 10 at the Sanger Center, with 72 attending since 1981. Each course lasts 10 weeks. The core curriculum provides trainees with skills in women's health care including contraception, in training and advocacy, a

PURPOSE: International operating room (OR) nurses assisting in organ procurement surgery believe that it is their responsibility to provide continued and comprehensive person-centered care to donors through their surgical journeys. This study explored the challenges these nurses encountered in providing person-centered care during surgical care stages of organ procurement surgery in Australia.
DESIGN: The phenomenological approach by van Manen was used to portray 18 OR nurses' organ procurement experiences.
METHODS: Semistructured interview data were transcribed verbatim.

AIM: This paper will examine racism's role in calculating fracture risk via the use of race- and ethnicity-based calculations and offer guidance for nurses to mitigate the risk of further exacerbating race-based inequities in fracture care.
BACKGROUND: Using race adjustments in fracture risk calculation, such as in the FRAX, reflects the history of systemic racism in nursing and medicine, particularly in screening for and treating osteoporosis. Osteoporosis-related fractures, which result in increased costs, disability, and death, are a public health problem.

BACKGROUND: The last decade has seen an increase in the number of centres able to provide venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) internationally across different health care systems. To support this growth, a variety of staffing arrangements have been adopted depending on local need and availability of resources, both in terms of manpower and finances to safely meet the complex needs of the patient and circuit management.
AIM: The aim of the survey was to describe current staffing arrangements of care provision for adult patients on VV-ECMO, with a focus on understanding the

BACKGROUND: Nursing interns frequently experience transition shock. Transition is a complex and continuously shifting process that involves vital changes in roles, responsibilities, and goals as one phase ends and another begins. AIM: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of a transition training program on work engagement among nurse interns. METHODS: Using a quasi-experimental design consisting of a single-group pretest, posttest, and follow-up test, the study was carried out at the Cairo, Egypt-affiliated Ain-Shams University Hospital, El-Demerdash Hospital, Pediatrics Hosp

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of illicit drug use among young people is high, with many being highly vulnerable to substance abuse. The nursing profession is not immune to the impacts of substance misuse. Knowing the current levels of consumption of illicit drugs in nursing students will allow for the introduction of preventive actions.
METHODS: Multi-center, descriptive, and cross-sectional study involving nursing schools from four different countries (Spain, Belgium, France, and Brazil). A total of seven centers participated. An adapted version of the Global School-based Student Health Survey
