Ophthalmic & physiological optics : the journal of the British College of Ophthalmic Opticians (Optometrists)2009eng
PURPOSE: This study investigated the intra-observer and inter-observer variation of Hertel exophthalmometry.
METHODS: Seventy normal Chinese adults had bilateral exophthalmometry performed by two examiners. The two examiners were masked to the measurement results. One examiner did the measurement twice and the other examiner measured it once; the order was randomised. The same Hertel exophthalmometer was used throughout the study. The Bland-Altman method was used to analyse the intra-observer and inter-observer agreement.

An investigation into observer variation and depressive phenomenology is described. A group of 6 clinicians independently completed a 43-item sheet for 20 depressed patients at the same clinical interview. The coefficient of agreements on the items are given. Patient variables and observer variables did not have any influence on the degree of agreement. There was also an agreement in the subtyping of depression.

We have examined variation in the interpretation of xeromammograms among radiologists designated to take part in a Canadian multicenter randomized controlled trial of screening for breast cancer. In this study, interobserver and intraobserver variations in the interpretation of plain radiographs of the lumbosacral spine were evaluated.
