Organizing pneumonia (OP) describes a histological pattern of acute or subacute lung damage. Clinically, patients present with cough, fever, and dyspnea. A distinction is made between idiopathic or cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) and secondary organizing pneumonia (OP). In COP, neither clinical/radiological nor histological causes can be determined. It is classified as an interstitial idiopathic pneumonia (IIP) according to the criteria of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). Secondary organizing pneumonia has a known triggering mechanism, such

INTRODUCTION: Organizing pneumonia (OP) is an uncommon clinic opathological situation among lung diseases. If no underlying cause can be detected, it is named as cryptogenic OP (COP). In this study, the etiologic and clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed as OP in our hospital in the last ten years were evaluated retrospectively. It was also aimed to make a comparison between COP and secondary OP patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred sixty-five patients diagnosed as OP pathologically in the 10 year period from August 2003 to August 2013 were included into that study. Patients'

Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP), formerly called bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP), was first described in the 1980s and is classified as a rare idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP). COP classically presents in a subacute fashion following a flu-like illness with fever, non-productive cough, and fatigue. Imaging often reveals diffuse, bilateral, peribronchovascular and peripheral, consolidative and ground-glass opacities although various imaging subtypes also exist. Physical examination may be normal or reveal inspiratory crackles. Hypoxemia, when present, is commo

INTRODUCTION: Organizing pneumonia is a particular type of inflammatory reaction of the lung which gives rise to a clinico-pathological syndrome. It is called "secondary" when a cause such as an infection, a drug toxicity, or a connective tissue disease can be identified, or "cryptogenic" when no cause is identified. The clinical picture is usually characterized by the subacute onset of fever, fatigue, cough and dyspnea, with multiple subpleural areas of consolidation on thoracic imaging.
STATE OF THE ART: Organizing pneumonia is characterised by the presence of buds of endoalveolar connectiv

Organizing pneumonia (OP) is a pathological pattern defined by the characteristic presence of buds of granulation tissue within the lumen of distal pulmonary airspaces consisting of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts intermixed with loose connective matrix. This pattern is the hallmark of a clinical pathological entity, namely cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) when no cause or etiologic context is found. The process of intraalveolar organization results from a sequence of alveolar injury, alveolar deposition of fibrin, and colonization of fibrin with proliferating fibroblasts. A tremendous ch

Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) is increasingly recognized as an important cause of diffuse infiltrative lung disease. It is a diagnostic consideration in patients with a febrile flu-like illness of a few weeks' duration and a roentgenogram showing bilateral patchy infiltrates that are not responsive to a typical course of antibiotics. It is defined as granulated tissue plugs within lumens of small airways that extend into alveolar ducts and alveoli. Clinically, a flu-like illness, cough, and crackles are common. Pulmonary function studies of patients show a decreased vita

Bronchiolitis obliterans combined organizing pneumonia (BOOP), now called organizing pneumonia, is a multi-etiologic disease. It can present as a solitary lesion, or as multinodular or diffuse interstitial lung disease. It is speculated if solitary BOOP may evolve into inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung. BOOP can be seen after non-resolving infectious bronchopneumonia as well as acute interstitial pneumonia with diffuse alveolar damage. BOOP can be the early morphologic pattern in toxic inhalation, especially water-soluble substances, but also in drug induced lung disease. BOOP can be the la

Organizing pneumonia is a clinical and pathological syndrome that describes a lung injury caused by an inflammatory reaction in the alveolar connective tissue. Classified as an interstitial lung disease, it can be secondary to infection, drug toxicity, connective tissue disorders, inhalation injuries (cocaine), organ transplant, or radiotherapy, and also can be idiopathic. Although organizing pneumonia is not a new phenomenon, it has been noted to be a complication of COVID-19, and should be considered in patients who have had COVID-19 and have atypical chest imaging, because treatment include

Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) is a form of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia that results from the pulmonary reaction to various unidentified injuries. Secondary organizing pneumonia is diagnosed when the triggering factor has been identified; it is mainly caused by infections, toxic substance exposure, drugs, connective tissue diseases, malignancies, autoimmune diseases, bone marrow, or organ transplantation, and radiotherapy. There has been an increase in the number of reports of drug-induced organizing pneumonia (OP). New biological therapies, interferon, monoclonal antibodies, ant

Organizing pneumonia is a clinical entity asociated with nonspecific symptoms and radiological findings and abnormalities in pulmonary function tests. It is defined by the characteristic histopathological pattern: filling of alveoli and respiratory bronchioles by plugs of granulation tissue. It can be idiopathic (COP) or secondary to other causes (SOP). It is an unusual finding and the clinical and radiographic findings are nonspecific. For specific diagnosis an invasive procedure has to be done, but often empirical treatment is started when there's a clinical suspicion. We describe the clinic

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of HRCT findings and their distribution in the lung parenchyma of patients with organizing pneumonia.
METHODS: This was a retrospective review of the HRCT scans of 36 adult patients (26 females and 10 males) with biopsy-proven organizing pneumonia. The patients were between 19 and 82 years of age (mean age, 56.2 years). The HRCT images were evaluated by two independent observers, discordant interpretations being resolved by consensus.
RESULTS: The most common HRCT finding was that of ground-glass opacities, which were seen in 88.9% of the cases. The seco

Rheumatoid arthritis patients are susceptible to interstitial lung disease, and joint manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis usually precede lung involvements by several years. Organizing pneumonia, as the first manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis, is extremely rare, and its clinical features remain currently unknown. We present a case and a literature review of patients who were pathologically diagnosed with organizing pneumonia first and met the diagnostic criteria of rheumatoid arthritis later. In this review, we observed the following: (1) patients with organizing pneumonia preceding rhe

This editorial explores the clinical implications of organizing pneumonia (OP) secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis, as presented in a recent case report. OP is a rare condition characterized by inflammation in the alveoli, which spreads to alveolar ducts and terminal bronchioles, usually after lung injuries caused by infections or other factors. OP is classified into cryptogenic (idiopathic) and secondary forms, the latter arising after infections, connective tissue diseases, tumors, or treatments like drugs and radiotherapy. Secondary OP may be triggered by infections caused by bacteria, viru

Organizing pneumonia (OP) is an interstitial lung disease, and can be cryptogenic, if no cause is identified, or secondary to several conditions. COVID-19-induced persistent inflammation can be associated with interstitial lung disease. We present a review of literature of OP and COVID-19-induced OP with an illustrative case. A 38-year-old man was admitted with COVID-19 that required mechanical ventilation for 56 days. Initial chest computed tomography (CT) revealed diffuse bilateral ground-glass opacities in the lungs with consolidation areas involving 75 % of the parenchyma. After weaning fr

INTRODUCTION: Cryptogenic organising pneumonia is a particular form of inflammatory and fibroproliferative lung disease. The disease onset is subacute with cough, dyspnoea, fever, weight loss, and elevation of biological inflammatory markers. Chest imaging usually shows multifocal alveolar opacities predominating in the subpleural regions. Lung biopsy reveals budding connective tissue filling the distal airspaces.
CASE OUTLINE: A 57-year-old electrician complaining of cough, dyspnoea, and fatigue was diagnosed with pneumonia and treated with antibiotics and antihistaminics. After clinical and

Obliterant Bronchiolitis is an anatomo-clinical entity known years ago. It is recognized as a evolutive form of different processes, including Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis, Pneumonitis due to gas inhalation, viral processes and Rheumatoid Lung. It has been recently identified as a disease with specific characteristics in the context of interstitial idiopathic pneumonia with bronchiolar involvement and a distinctive anatomo-pathological character. From the clinical and radiological point of view it requires a broad differential diagnosis, which is confirmed definitively in the anatomopathologi

PURPOSE: Secondary organizing pneumonia (OP) and acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia (AFOP) are frequently observed in cases of COVID-19 pneumonia. Nevertheless, the identification of risk factors related to OP/AFOP and their impact on patient outcomes remain inadequately elucidated.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective study aimed to identify risk factors associated with OP/AFOP in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and to compare clinical outcomes between patients with and without OP/AFOP. The study included hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia admitted between July 1 and Se
