[Diagnosis and treatment of ovotesticular disorders of sex development in children].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of ovotesticular disorders of sex development (DSD) in children. METHODS: We reviewed the clinical data of 9 cases of ovotesticular DSD admitted in our department from 1988 to 2007. RESULTS: The patients ranged in age from 9 months to 9 years, 7 raised as males and 2 as females. As for the karyotype, 4 cases were 46,XX, 2 were 46,XX/46,XY, 1 was 46,XY, and the other 2 had no karyotype data. All of them presented with obscure external genitalia: perineal or penoscrotal hypospadias with or without cryptorchidism in males and hypertrophy of

Ovotesticular Disorder of Sex Development Presenting as a Scrotal Emergency.

Ovotesticular (OT) disorder of sex development (DSD) is a rare condition that affects the development of reproductive organs and manifests in a wide range of phenotypic presentations. The clinical diagnosis of this condition is challenging because of its atypical nature, and the variability of presentation in 46,XX OT-DSD cases makes it a complex issue in medical practice. We report a case of a 13-year-old boy who presented with left scrotal pain. Further exploration revealed a tunica rupture without testicular torsion of the left testis, whereas the histopathological analysis of a nodule exci

OVOTESTICULAR DISORDER OF SEX DEVELOPMENT: A SINGLE-CENTER EXPERIENCE.

OBJECTIVE: Ovotesticular disorder of sex development (OT DSD) is a rare disorder of sex development characterized by the presence in the same individual of both histologically proven testis and ovary. There are scant data from the Indian subcontinent regarding this disorder. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical, biochemical, imaging, cytogenetic, surgical, and histopathologic findings and outcomes of patients with OT DSD from Western India. METHODS: The records of patients referred to our center for disorders of sex development between 2005 and 2013 were reviewed, and 7 patients

Ovotesticular Disorder of Sex Development Presenting as an Acute Scrotum.

Hermaphroditism is known as ovotesticular disorder of sex development. A 14-year-old boy was admitted with right acute scrotum. Exploration revealed tunica rupture and hematoma, with no viable tissue. After 1 month, he was admitted again with left hemiscrotal pain. Microscopic examination of the left gonad demonstrated foci of hemorrhagic cysts, primordial follicles, and regions of seminiferous tubules. We preserved a testicular tissue and the ovarian part was extracted completely. Long-term follow-up with his hormonal profile is reported. This is a case of ovotesticular disorder presented wit

Ovotesticular disorder of sex development with a prostatic gland and review of literature.

Ovotesticular disorder of sex development (OTDSD) is a rare condition and defined as the presence of ovarian and testicular tissue in the same individual. Most of patients with OTDSD have female internal genital organs. In this report, we present a case in which, we demonstrated prostate tissue using endoscopic and radiologic methods in a 46-XX, sex determining region of the Y chromosome negative male phenotypic patient, with no female internal genitalia. Existence of prostate in an XX male without SRY is rarely seen and reveals a complete male phenotype. This finding is critical to figure out

Ovotesticular disorder of sex development with unusual karyotype: patient report.

BACKGROUND: Ovotesticular disorder of sex development (OT-DSD) (true hermaphroditism) is an anatomopathological diagnosis based on the findings of testicular and ovarian tissues in the same subject, in the same gonad (ovotestis), or in separate gonads. OT-DSD is a rare cause of sex ambiguity, and the most common karyotype is 46,XX; mosaics and chimeras are found only in 10%-20%. AIM: To report a case of an OT-DSD patient with a rare karyotype constitution. CASE REPORT: A 2-month-old child with male sex assignment was referred to our clinic for investigation of sex ambiguity. He was the secon

Two cases of late-diagnosed ovotesticular disorder of sex development.

Ovotesticular disorder of sex development (ovotesticular DSD) is defined as the presence of testicular and ovarian tissue in the same individual. Both external and internal genitalia of patients with ovotesticular DSD display a spectrum of phenotypes. Most children present with ambiguous genitalia in combination with unilateral or bilateral undescended gonads. We experienced two late-diagnosed children who presented with proximal hypospadias and bilateral scrotal gonads. One should consider the possibility of ovotesticular DSD when managing patients with proximal hypospadias even if both gonad

Ovotesticular disorders of sex development in FGF9 mouse models of human synostosis syndromes.

In mice, male sex determination depends on FGF9 signalling via FGFR2c in the bipotential gonads to maintain the expression of the key testis gene SOX9. In humans, however, while FGFR2 mutations have been linked to 46,XY disorders of sex development (DSD), the role of FGF9 is unresolved. The only reported pathogenic mutations in human FGF9, FGF9S99N and FGF9R62G, are dominant and result in craniosynostosis (fusion of cranial sutures) or multiple synostoses (fusion of limb joints). Whether these synostosis-causing FGF9 mutations impact upon gonadal development and DSD etiology has not been explo

Ovotesticular Disorder of Sex Development: Approach and Management of an Index Case in the Dominican Republic.

Disorders of sex development (DSD) are a group of congenital conditions associated with anomalous development of internal and external genital organs. Ovotesticular disorder of sex development (OT-DSD) is a condition in which a child is born with both testicular tissue (that possesses variable fertility potential within seminiferous tubules) and ovarian tissue (with primordial follicles). These tissues may be co-existent in the same gonad (ovotestis) or independently in separate gonads. Here, we report the clinical case of a 21-month-old boy that we met during a humanitarian surgical mission p

Ovotesticular disorders of sex development with dysgerminoma in a 46, XX/46, XY female: A case report.

The diagnosis of ovotesticular disorders of sex development can only be confirmed when both testicular and ovarian tissues are present simultaneously in the same individual, regardless of the patient's karyotype. This report aims to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of a rare case of ovotesticular disorders of sex development complicated by dysgerminoma. The patient, a 24-year-old female, was admitted to hospital due to clitoral hypertrophy. Chromosomal analysis revealed a chimeric karyotype of 46, XX/46, XY. Biopsies of both ovaries indicated the presence of dysgerminoma in the right ovaria
