[The problem of paramedicine and the therapy of urologic patients].

A questionnaire study covering a large number of urological patients is carried out in an attempt to establish the extent to which the services of paramedical healers are sought, as well as the underlying motivation involved. It is demonstrated that 13.12 per cent of the inquired refer to alternative medicine specialists. Usually it is a matter of patients with chronic and incurable conditions, such as nephrolithiasis, adenoma of the prostate gland, oncourological diseases, chronic prostatitis and cystalgia. Of the vast variety of healers, herbalists and extrasensory perception therapists appe

Intimate Partner Violence and Paramedicine: An Updated Scoping Review of Perspectives and Practices.

OBJECTIVES: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is increasingly being recognized as a clinical circumstance to which Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinicians attend. IPV refers to the use of physical, sexual, psychological, and coercive violence by a current or former intimate partner to exert power and control. The intersection of paramedicine and IPV remains largely unclear. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive synthesis of the available evidence at the intersection of paramedicine and IPV. METHODS: This review followed a published protocol (Open Science Framework), and PRISMA-ScR gui

Developing a culturally adapted competency framework for community paramedicine practice in Saudi Arabia.

Community paramedicine (CP) has emerged globally as a model for extending healthcare access, but little evidence exists on how it can be adapted to the sociocultural and systemic context of Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to develop a culturally tailored competency framework for CP to inform education, practice, and policy. A qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with 15 experts from diverse regions and professional roles in Saudi Arabia was adopted. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify the core competencies. To complement the qualitative synthesis and explore structural pa

The Community Paramedicine at Clinic Program: Improving Participant Health while Preserving Healthcare System Resources.

Vulnerable populations such as low-income older adults in social housing suffer from poor quality of life and are impacted by chronic diseases. These populations are also high users of emergency services, which contribute to high healthcare costs. Community-based, patient-centred interventions, such as community paramedicine (CP) programs, can address the healthcare gaps for these underserved populations. Community Paramedicine at Clinic (CP@clinic) is an innovative, evidence-based, chronic disease prevention/management program that improves patient health and quality of life, connects them wi

Mental Workload and Handover in Paramedics and Paramedicine Students Following Simulated Emergency Responses: Pilot Study.

INTRODUCTION: Clear and accurate handover from paramedics to emergency department staff is crucial to patient outcomes, but mental workload experienced throughout an emergency response may impair paramedics' ability to retain key clinical details for handover. This pilot study used a mixed factorial design to examine whether mental workload experienced throughout a simulated emergency response and clinical experience influences handover performance and physiological responses in paramedics and paramedicine students. METHODS: Ten paramedicine students and 6 experienced paramedics completed 2 f

Exploring implementation and sustainability of a community paramedicine model to reduce hospitalizations: a pragmatic randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Community paramedicine models of care may reduce health system burdens and improve access to care, especially in rural areas. Assessment of intervention implementation from the perspective of implementers and users is critical to refine further implementation, support scale-up, and realize sustainability. METHODS: The parent study was a point-of-care pragmatic randomized trial of a community paramedic (CP) program for patients with intermediate acuity needs (the Care Anywhere with Community Paramedics [CACP] program) versus usual care with the goal of reducing 30-day acute care use

Community Paramedicine Intervention Reduces Hospital Readmission and Emergency Department Utilization for Patients with Cardiopulmonary Conditions.

OBJECTIVE: Patients discharged from the hospital with diagnoses of myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure or acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have high rates of readmission. We sought to quantify the impact of a community paramedicine (CP) intervention on hospital readmission and emergency department (ED) and clinic utilization for patients discharged with these conditions and to calculate the difference in healthcare costs. METHODS: This was a prospective, observational cohort study with a matched historical control. The groups were matched for qual

The time-course of visual scanning behaviour of paramedicine students upon arrival at a simulated emergency call.

BACKGROUND: Limited knowledge exists regarding how paramedics acquire an understanding of the scene they encounter upon arrival, despite their need to quickly gather information for effective clinical decision-making. This study examined visual scanning behaviour during the early stages of simulated emergency calls. METHODS: Eye movements of 10 paramedicine students were recorded during simulated calls conducted in both a high-fidelity classroom setting and a full sensory immersion setting. RESULTS: Students focused on similar areas in both settings, with most time spent looking at the patie

Medication Safety During Transitions of Care From Paramedicine to Emergency Nursing Care: A Scoping Review Protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Transitions of care in the emergency department are critical points for patient safety, particularly during handovers from emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to emergency department clinicians. This rapid and high-pressure environment often prioritizes urgent clinical care over structured communication, increasing the risk of information loss and medication errors, which can lead to serious patient harm, prolonged hospital stays, preventable complications, and death. OBJECTIVE: To systematically map academic and gray literature examining medication-related safety risks d

Community paramedicine-cost-benefit analysis and safety with paramedical emergency services in rural areas: scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Community paramedicine models have been developed around the world in response to demographic changes, healthcare system needs and reforms. The traditional role of the paramedic has primarily been to provide emergency medical response and transportation of patients to nearby medical facilities. As a response to healthcare service gaps in underserved communities and the growing professionalisation of the workforce, the role of community paramedicine has evolved as a new model of care. A community paramedicine model in one region might address other healthcare needs than a model in

Development of a Novel Low-Cost Emergency Airway Simulator to Improve Access to Clinical Training in Resource-Limited Paramedicine.

Effective airway management is a cornerstone of prehospital emergency care, often determining the outcome of critically ill or injured patients. However, prior studies have identified several possible risk factors that hinder the performance of advanced airway management procedures in the field, such as endotracheal intubation (ETI) and cricothyrotomy. These risk factors may include facial trauma, airway obstruction, trismus, or confined rescue environments. Medical simulation is an educational modality for emergency medical services (EMS) providers to build their practical skills in a control

BACKGROUND: The global shortage of nursing and other health care professionals threatens the stability of health care systems. Generation Z (Gen Z), born between 1995 and 2010, represents a critical cohort for the future of the health care workforce. Educational institutions are adapting teaching strategies to address the learning preferences and expectations of this generation to teach effectively and prevent attrition. While some evidence exists regarding Gen Z nursing students, there is limited data on students in specialized health care fields, such as pediatric nursing, midwifery, physiot

Examining the Effectiveness of Breathwork to Improve Resilience and Psychological Wellbeing While Reducing Anxiety, Depression, Stress, and Insomnia in Paramedicine Students: A Single-Blind Randomised Controlled Trial.

Paramedicine students experience disproportionately high rates of anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia compared to the general population, placing them at risk of post-traumatic stress disorder and long-term psychological distress. Breathwork has emerged as a promising self-regulation intervention that may enhance resilience and wellbeing while reducing symptoms of mental illness. This randomised controlled trial (RCT) evaluated the effectiveness of the A52 Breath Method, a structured breathwork protocol, in improving mental health and resilience among student paramedics. A single-blind p

Impact of a mobile integrated healthcare and community paramedicine program on improving medication adherence in patients with heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease after hospital discharge: A pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The mobile integrated health-community paramedicine (MIH-CP) program affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical Center focuses on improving patient transitions from hospital to home by addressing both medical and social determinants of health. Until recently, only self-contained health systems could integrate inpatient and outpatient medication data. Without some means to track patients in transition, there is a significant risk of medication-related problems and errors. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of the MIH-CP program on medication adherence among patients with con
