Leveraging Academic-Practice Partnerships at a Safety Net Hospital.

BACKGROUND: In the evolving landscape of health care, the need for highly skilled nursing professionals has never been greater. Central to meeting this demand is the collaboration between academic institutions and health care settings, particularly through faculty practice partnerships. METHOD: An academic-practice partnership in a safety-net hospital partnered with doctorally prepared faculty from a private university and a public community college to create an academic-practice partnership triad. This triad addresses every level of need, including the clinical placements of licensed practic

Partnership in Practice: Jointly Building and Using Delaware's Early Literacy Data System.

We introduce the Delaware Early Literacy Research-Practice Partnership (DEL RPP), a partnership between the University of Delaware and the Delaware Department of Education focused on studying, supporting, and ultimately improving literacy for Delaware children in the early elementary grades. The initial activities of the partnership have focused on planning and the construction of a shared data system. This data system enables analyses not previously available to university or department researchers, and we provide a formative example of these analyses-focusing on the meaning of the cut score

Improving patient blood management in obstetrics: snapshots of a practice improvement partnership.

Iron deficiency and anaemia are common in pregnancy. Audit data from our tertiary obstetrics unit demonstrated 22% of maternity patients experiencing a postpartum haemorrhage received a transfusion; a third of whom were anaemic on admission intrapartum. Australian Patient Blood Management (PBM) Module 5 Obstetrics guidelines focuses on maximising red cell mass at the time of delivery and reducing the reliance on transfusion as a salvage therapy to treat blood loss. A clinical practice improvement partnership began in February 2015 and completed in April 2016; which aimed to implement systems t

From Persuasion to Partnership: Evaluating the Practicalities, Ethics, and Evidence for Implementing Motivational Interviewing in Veterinary Practice.

Veterinary medicine fundamentally revolves around working with people to positively influence how they care for their animals. Veterinarians have traditionally used directive advice-giving when providing clients with recommendations, which can inadvertently push clients further away from change despite good intentions by evoking resistance and leaving the underlying motivational and contextual barriers to change unaddressed. Motivational interviewing (MI), a collaborative communication approach originally developed for addiction counselling, has been widely adapted across many fields because o

Bridging research and practice: Co-constructing school psychology training within a university-district partnership.

Most states are experiencing a shortage of school-based mental health providers, such as school psychologists. This is coupled with an increase in the mental health needs of youth. School psychologists are well positioned to deliver mental health supports in schools. A collaborative partnership between school psychology graduate training programs and school districts to train school psychologists can improve the quality of training and confer mutual benefits. In this article, we describe a partnership between a school psychology graduate program and a school district in the training of school

Making space for research: lessons from a research-practice partnership in adult social care.

BACKGROUND: Research-practice partnerships (RPPs) are increasingly recognised for their potential to build research capacity in adult social care (ASC), yet the mechanisms enabling or constraining their impact remain under-explored. This article reports on the SCRiPT study, a National Institute for Health and Care Research-funded RPP in England that utilised a Communities of Practice (CoP) approach. AIMS: To operationalise an RPP by establishing Research in Practice Teams (RiPTs) - comprising social care professionals, lived experience contributors and academics - and to evaluate the mobilisa

Interview study exploring how global health partnership principles are enacted and recommendations for practice.

BACKGROUND: Effective global health partnerships can strengthen and improve health and healthcare systems across the world; however, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships can be challenging. Principles of Partnerships have been developed to improve the quality and effectiveness of health partnerships. It is unclear how principles are enacted in practice, and current research has not always included the voices of low-income and middle-income country partners. This study aimed to explore how The Tropical Health and Education Trust's nine Principles of Partnership are enacted in pra

A Correctional Facility Academic-Practice Partnership: Implementation of a Nurse-Led COVID-19 Initiative.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in one in five individuals incarcerated in U.S. correctional institutions contracting COVID-19 and 1,700 deaths. Correctional adult transition centers house incarcerated individuals who typically do not have on-site health care access. A COVID-19 outbreak could devastate this population, who live in high-density conditions and have been documented as high risk for poor health outcomes. Owing to a robust practice partnership between a college of nursing and two adult transition centers, a nurse-led COVID-19 initiative was implemented to minimize transmiss

Diabetes Quality of Care Before and After Implementation of a Resident Clinic Practice Partnership System.

Deficiencies in resident diabetes care quality may relate to continuity clinic design. This retrospective analysis compared diabetes care processes and outcomes within a traditional resident continuity clinic structure (2005) and after the implementation of a practice partnership system (PPS; 2009). Under PPS, patients were more likely to receive annual foot examinations (odds ratio [OR] = 11.6; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 7.2, 18.5), microalbumin screening (OR = 2.4; 95% CI = 1.6, 3.4), and aspirin use counseling (OR = 3.8; 95% CI = 2.5, 6.0) and were less likely to receive eye examination

Research into practice: 10 years of international public health partnership between the UK and Swaziland.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing interest in global health partnerships. However, evidence of benefit remains weak. We report on the impact of a 10-year public health partnership between the UK and Swaziland. Swaziland has the highest rates of TB and HIV in the world. Health services are being overwhelmed and patients suffer the cost and inconvenience of centralized services. Our international health partnership was set up to promote the translation of public health research into practice. METHODS: The partnership is based on six principles: sustainability; robust measurement; evidence-based p

Prioritizing partnerships in school-based implementation research and practice: Applying the ACCESS model.

BACKGROUND: Schools are the primary context for mental health services for youth in the United States and a critical setting for increasing access to mental health care, especially for youth from low income and historically minoritized communities. However, numerous barriers to implementing evidence-based practices persist for chronically underserved youth in schools. Establishing strong collaborations with community partners is essential for successful implementation. OBJECTIVE: This conceptual overview offers the ACCESS model as a resource for school-partnered training and consultation effo
