Internet-Based Patient Portals Increase Patient Connectivity Following Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Many healthcare-related processes have undergone substantial transformation by the internet since the turn of the century. This technological revolution has fostered a fundamental shift from medical paternalism to patient autonomy and empowerment via a "patient-centric approach." Patient portals, or internet-enabled access to an electronic medical record, permit patients to access, manage, and share their health-related information. Patient connectivity following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has the potential to positively influence overall outcomes, patient experience, and satisfaction. To u

Co-Designing an Initiative to Increase Shared Access to Older Adults' Patient Portals: Stakeholder Engagement.

BACKGROUND: The patient portal is a widely available secure digital platform offered by care delivery organizations that enables patients to communicate electronically with clinicians and manage their care. Many organizations allow patients to authorize family members or friends-"care partners"-to share access to patient portal accounts, thus enabling care partners to receive their own identity credentials. Shared access facilitates trilateral information exchange among patients, clinicians, and care partners; however, uptake and awareness of this functionality are limited. OBJECTIVE: We part

Interest in using patient portals among adolescents in mental health care - a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescents in mental health care may benefit from using patient portals to access personalised information about their health and treatment. While no studies have considered the interest in using patient portals among adolescents in mental health care, factors such as patient activation, self-reported health, depressive symptoms, diagnosis, healthcare utilisation, and eHealth literacy have been found to be associated with interest in and use of patient portals in other patient groups. Therefore, the aim was to explore the associations between interest in using patient portals an

Patient Portals Fail to Collect Structured Information About Who Else is Involved in a Person's Care.

The US health care delivery system does not systematically engage or support family or friend care partners. Meanwhile, the uptake and familiarity of portals to personal health information are increasing among patients. Technology innovations, such as shared access to the portal, use separate identity credentials to differentiate between patients and care partners. Although not well-known, or commonly used, shared access allows patients to identify who they do and do not want to be involved in their care. However, the processes for patients to grant shared access to portals are often limited o

Leveraging artificial intelligence to decipher gynecologic cytopathology reports: Insights from an exploratory study for possible use in patient portals.

BACKGROUND: The 21st Century Cures Act allows patients to have immediate access to their medical records. However, it is documented that health literacy levels in patient portal users vary, and results shared with patients may require further explanation. The objective of this exploratory study was to evaluate if an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot assistant (ChatGPT; Open AI, Inc.) may be used to simplify gynecologic cytopathology reports for patients. The authors also assessed pathologists' opinions on the quality of simplified pathology reports generated with ChatGPT. METHODS: An exper
