Agrowaste to vanillin conversion by a natural Pediococcus acidilactici strain BD16.

Owing to its flavoring, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticarcinogenic nature, vanillin is widely used in foods, beverages, perfumes and pharmaceutical products. Ferulic acid (FA) is an important precursor of vanillin which is abundant in cereals like maize, rice and wheat and sugar beet. A major drawback of microbial vanillin production from FA is the degradation and biotransformation of toxic vanillin to other phenolic derivatives. The present study is undertaken to explore microbial vanillin production from FA precursor rice bran by employing vanillin-resistant Pediococcus acidilactici BD1

Host-derived Pediococcus Acidilactici GLP06 Mitigates antibiotic-associated Diarrhoea in Dogs.

Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is an adverse reaction caused by antibiotic treatment, typically resulting from an imbalance in the gut microbiota. Probiotics have been widely used to counteract AAD by enhancing the composition of intestinal microbiota. Canine-derived Pediococcus acidilactic GLP06 has been shown to be a promising probiotic, however, the effect of P. acidilactici GLP06 on canine AAD is unknown. In this experiment, we investigated the effect of P. acidilactici GLP06 on antibiotic-induced diarrhea induced by intestinal flora imbalance in Beagle dogs by blood biochemical inde

Dietary Pediococcus acidilactici supplementation enhances sperm quality and testicular function in roosters.

The ban on the use of antibiotics as growth promoters due to resistance issues has urged scientists to find alternatives to antibiotics. In recent years, probiotics have gained widespread attention for their potential benefits on systemic physiological functions. However, little is known about how Pediococcus acidilactici supplementation specifically influences sperm quality, testicular development, and the molecular mechanisms underlying male reproductive performance in roosters. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of different levels of Pediococcus acidilactici supplementatio

Clinical and Metabolomic Effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Pediococcus acidilactici in Fructose Intolerant Patients.

Fructose intolerance (FI) is a widespread non-genetic condition in which the incomplete absorption of fructose leads to gastro-intestinal disorders. The crucial role of microbial dysbiosis on the onset of these intolerance symptoms together with their persistence under free fructose diets are driving the scientific community towards the use of probiotics as a novel therapeutic approach. In this study, we evaluated the prevalence of FI in a cohort composed of Romanian adults with Functional Grastrointestinal Disorders (FGIDs) and the effectiveness of treatment based on the probiotic formulation

Anti-Tuberculosis Activity of Pediococcus acidilactici Isolated from Young Radish Kimchi against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis is a highly contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It affects about 10 million people each year and is still one of the leading causes of death worldwide. About 2 to 3 billion people (equivalent to 1 in 3 people in the world) are infected with latent tuberculosis. Moreover, as the number of multidrug-resistant, extensively drug-resistant, and totally drug-resistant strains of M. tuberculosis continues to increase, there is an urgent need to develop new anti-tuberculosis drugs that are different from existing drugs to combat antibiotic-resistant M. tuberculosis. Purification, characterization and antimicrobial activity of pediocin PA-1 from Pediococcus acidilactici LH31.

Pediocin PA-1 is a Class IIa bacteriocin with potent activity against foodborne pathogens, but its application is limited by the lack of efficient purification methods. In this study, pediocin PA-1 was purified from Pediococcus acidilactici LH31 using a two-step procedure consisting of pH-mediated cell adsorption-desorption followed by semi-preparative reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The purified bacteriocin showed a single band at approximately 5.0 kDa on Tricine-SDS-PAGE. It exhibited optimal antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecalis at 25 °C and pH 6.0. The

Characterisation of the bacterial microbiota of the vagina of dairy cows and isolation of pediocin-producing Pediococcus acidilactici.

BACKGROUND: Uterine infections in dairy cows lower profitability of dairy operations. Infections of the reproductive tract are related to the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria during the first three weeks after parturition. However, alterations in the vaginal microbiota composition in the first weeks after parturition remain poorly documented. RESULTS: In this study, bacteria isolated from the vagina of healthy pregnant, and infected postpartum cows were characterised by random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis and partial 16S ribosomal RNA (rDNA) gene sequencing. Use of a bacteriocin produced by Pediococcus acidilactici to inhibit Listeria monocytogenes associated with fresh meat.

A bacteriocin produced by Pediococcus acidilactici had an inhibitory and bactericidal effect on Listeria monocytogenes associated with fresh meat. MICs were significantly lower than minimum killing concentrations. When meat was inoculated with L. monocytogenes, the bacteriocin reduced the number of attached bacteria in 2 min by 0.5 to 2.2 log cycles depending upon bacteriocin concentration. Meat treated initially with the bacteriocin resulted in attachment of 1.0 to 2.5 log cycles fewer bacteria than that attained with the control. The bacteriocin, after 28 days of refrigerated storage on meat
