Traditionally, pelvic girdle pain (PGP) was viewed as a hormonal problem, untreatable during pregnancy and exacerbated by the weight of the baby. Customary advice was for rest, support belts and to await recovery following the baby's birth. However, the outcome of this management resulted in many women experiencing short or long-term physical disability, as well as the psychological impact of pain and immobility. Recent research links an asymmetry of the pelvic joints to the incidence and severity of PGP and shows the cause is biomechanical and not due to pregnancy hormones. Evidence supports

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is a term used specifically to pregnancy-related pain in the lumbosacral, sacroiliac and symphysis pubis joints. Pregnancy-induced hormonal and physical changes increase the risk of musculoskeletal problems in pregnancy. The severity of these conditions varies from mild self-limiting pain to a severe disabling condition. PGP is common in pregnancy and while most can be managed as outpatients, a few patients require inpatient admission for further investigations and management. Prompt identification of these conditions is essential to avoid serious disability. Lack of a

Pregnancy has a profound effect on the human body, particularly the musculoskeletal system. Hormonal changes cause ligamentous joint laxity, weight gain, and a shift in the center of gravity that leads to lumbar spine hyperlordosis and anterior tilting of the pelvis. In addition, vascular changes may lead to compromised metabolic supply in the low back. The most common musculoskeletal complaints in pregnancy are low back pain and/or pelvic girdle pain. They can be diagnosed and differentiated from each other by history taking, clinical examination, provocative test maneuvers, and imaging. Mana

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to estimate the association of parity with pelvic girdle syndrome (PGS; pain in anterior and bilateral posterior pelvis).
STUDY DESIGN: We included 75,939 pregnant women in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study. Data were obtained by self-administered questionnaires.
RESULTS: By pregnancy week 30, 15% of the women had developed PGS. Among first-time mothers, 11% of the women reported PGS, compared with 18% of the women with 1 previous delivery and 21% of women with 2 previous deliveries. The odds ratios for PGS of having had 1 or 2 previous deli

BACKGROUND: The Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire (PGQ) is a condition-specific measure for women with pelvic girdle pain (PGP). The PGQ includes items relating to activity/participation and bodily symptoms and has reliability, validity, and feasibility for use in research and clinical practice.
OBJECTIVE: The purposes of this study were to examine the responsiveness of the PGQ, to determine the minimal important change (MIC) for the PGQ, and to compare the PGQ with other outcome measures.
DESIGN: This study used a prospective cohort design.
METHODS: A total of 801 women responded to a booklet of

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PPGP) is a common complication during gestation which negatively influences pregnant women's quality of life. There are numerous risk factors associated with PPGP, however, there is limited information about being able to predict the diagnosis of PPGP.
OBJECTIVE: To compare machine learning (ML) and traditional predictive modelling to predict the clinical diagnosis of PPGP.
METHODS: This study reanalysed data from 780 pregnant women attending a tertiary hospital. ML algorithms, including Logistic Regression (LR), Random Forest, Xtreme Gradien

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic girdle pain during and after pregnancy is a major public health problem with significant daily problems for affected women and their families. There is now accumulating evidence that pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain originates from the sacroiliac joints and the pubic symphysis as well as their extra-articular ligaments. However, the heritability of the disease remains to be determined. We hypothesized that there is an increased familial risk of pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain.

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) is an important clinical problem that deserves more attention. Several treatment regimens have been presented that appear to be somewhat promising, but it was reported that about 10% of patients still suffer from the problems 11 years after their inception. This situation should be improved.
PURPOSE: We present a personalized history, with first the acceptance of the concept of 'PGP', around 2005, and then continued problems in really understanding PGP's nature and causes. We propose to engage in 'deconstruction' of PGP, that is, disentangling the large

A guideline on pelvic girdle pain (PGP) was developed by "Working Group 4" within the framework of the COST ACTION B13 "Low back pain: guidelines for its management", issued by the European Commission, Research Directorate-General, Department of Policy, Coordination and Strategy. To ensure an evidence-based approach, three subgroups were formed to explore: (a) basic information, (b) diagnostics and epidemiology, and (c) therapeutical interventions. The progress of the subgroups was discussed at each meeting and the final report is based on group consensus. A grading system was used to denote t

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: During pregnancy or postpartum period, several women experience some degree of pelvic girdle pain (PGP). In India, information is lacking about the prevalence and possible risk factors of PGP evaluated during postpartum period. This study aims to determine the prevalence of PGP in postpartum women who underwent vaginal or caesarean mode of delivery and to estimate possible associated factors with or without PGP in both modes of deliveries.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 284 postpartum women answered questionnaires and underwent clinical examinations. Clinic

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PPGP) is a common complaint. The aetiology remains unclear and reports on risk factors for PPGP provide conflicting accounts. The aim of this scoping review was to map the body of literature on risk factors for experiencing PPGP.
METHODS: We searched the databases PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, MIDIRS, and ClinicalTrial.gov (3 August 2020). We selected studies with two reviewers independently. Observational studies assessing risk factors for PPGP were included. Studies examining specific diagnostic tests or interventions were excluded.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PPGP) is a very common complaint. Although many women recover after a birth, about a third continue to have symptoms three months postpartum and 8.5% of women still have persistent symptoms two years afterwards. Knowledge of prognostic factors may help understand the course of PPGP and inform management.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the prognostic factors for PPGP by systematically reviewing the literature.
DESIGN: Systematic review.
METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, MIDIRS, and ClinicalTrial.gov (15 April 2017) with no filt

BACKGROUND: Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is not always a self-limiting condition. Women with more pronounced persistent PGP (PPGP) report poorer health status compared to women with less pronounced symptoms. The knowledge concerning the long-term consequences of PPGP is limited, thus more knowledge in this area is needed. The overall aim was to study the prevalence and predictors of PPGP 12 years after delivery.
METHODS: This is a long-term follow-up study based on a previous cohort study that commenced in 2002. New questionnaire data 12 years postpartum were collected in 2014 and early 2015. The

The risk factors for pregnancy-associated pelvic girdle pain (PPGP) remain unclear in China, and clinical prediction tools are lacking. To address this gap, a cross-sectional study was conducted involving 416 pregnant and postpartum women from the Guangdong Women and Children Hospital, aiming to investigate PPGP prevalence, identify risk factors, and develop a predictive nomogram. Data were collected via structured questionnaires and medical records. Feature selection was performed using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression, followed by multivariate logistic regre

BACKGROUND: Prolonged sitting and performance hours in musicians may lead to an increased risk of musculoskeletal pain around the spine and pelvis. This situation may lead to an asymmetry of spinal segments, which in turn may correlate with muscle contractions around the lumbopelvic area and can lead to musculoskeletal pelvic girdle pain. The aim of this study was to investigate the segmental mobility of the vertebral column in two groups of musicians, those with and without pelvic girdle pain.
METHODS: This study included 45 musicians who played their instrument for at least 10 years. Musici

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The relationship between external lumbar, hip, and/or pelvic girdle pain and internal vaginal pelvic floor myofascial pain is not well described. We assessed this relationship in a cohort of adult women.
METHODS: The cohort included women ≥ 18 years old who received care for external lumbar, hip, and/or pelvic girdle pain (reported or elicited on physical examination) who then underwent internal vaginal myofascial levator ani pain assessments, in a tertiary care Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery pelvic pain clinic over a 2-year period (2013 and 201
