Theoretical investigation on isomerization and decomposition reactions of pentanol radicals-part I: branched pentanol isomers.

Theoretical investigations on the kinetics of decomposition and isomerization reactions for five types of branched pentanol radicals are carried out in this work. The M06-2X/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory was used to optimize the geometries of all reactants, transition states, and products, while the hindrance potentials for the lower frequency modes in all of the species were obtained through a relaxed scan with an increment of 10° at the M06-2X/6-31G level of theory. Single-point energies of all species were determined at the QCISD(T)/cc-pVDZ, TZ level of theories with basis set corrections f

ZnCo2O4‑Based Nanoparticle Sensor for 1‑Pentanol Detection.

When microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) interact with humans, they can be harmful to health, causing irritation and discomfort. Additionally, they act as biomarkers for diseases. Despite the significance of this topic, there are still few detection tests available. This work explores the sensitive detection of MVOCs using semiconductor metal oxide (SMO). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the use of the monophase bimetallic structure ZnCo2O4 as a gas-sensing material for 1-pentanol detection, an MVOC that Trichothecium roseum and Staphylococcus aureus can produce. The study focu

Effect of Pentanol Partitioning on Solubilization of Tetrachloroethylene and Gasoline by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Micelles.

The effect of interfacial pentanol concentrations on solubilization of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and gasoline by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles was compared to that for dodecane solubilization, which had been measured in a previous study. The solubilization of PCE and gasoline reached their maximum values at a 1 : 3 SDS-to-pentanol molar ratio in the interface. As pentanol concentrations increased beyond that necessary for interfacial saturation, solubilization of PCE and gasoline decreased. This behavior was similar to that observed when dodecane was the oil phase. Electrical conductiv

Anti-echinococcal activity of menthol and a novel prodrug, menthol-pentanol, against Echinococcus multilocularis.

Alveolar echinococcosis is one of the most dangerous parasitic zoonoses. This disease, widely distributed in the northern hemisphere, is caused by the metacestode stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. All surgical and non-surgical patients should perform chemotherapy with benzimidazoles, mainly with albendazole. However, the efficacy of albendazole is variable due to its deficient pharmacokinetic properties. Therefore, the need to find new therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of alveolar echinococcosis is evident. Menthol is a natural compound of low toxicity, used in indust

Field evaluation of the bacterial volatile derivative 3-pentanol in priming for induced resistance in pepper.

Plants are defended from attack by emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can act directly against pathogens and herbivores or indirectly by recruiting natural enemies of herbivores. However, microbial VOC have been less investigated as potential triggers of plant systemic defense responses against pathogens in the field. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain IN937a, a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium that colonizes plant tissues, stimulates induced systemic resistance (ISR) via its emission of VOCs. We investigated the ISR capacity of VOCs and derivatives collected from strain IN

Reducing soot and genotoxic polycyclic aromatic compound emissions from jet fuel combustion by pentanol blending.

Here, the impact of pentanol blending on the health-relevant properties of soot emissions from enclosed spray combustion of jet fuel is assessed using real-time and time-integrated sampling instrumentation, as well as multi-path particle dosimetry modelling. Increasing the pentanol content in the jet fuel blend decreases the mass concentration of soot up to 71 % and the total concentration of surface-bound polycyclic aromatic compounds up to 37 %. Soot agglomerates and primary particles emitted by combustion of jet fuel/pentanol blends are smaller and have a more amorphous nanostructure compar

Application of response surface methodology on performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine fueled with diesel, pentanol, and biogas.

The current investigation's objective is to compare various pentanol/biogas/diesel fuel mixes' performance and exhaust parameters in a dual fuel engine. The varied flow rates of gaseous fuel (10, 20, and 30 L per minute) and pentanol fractions (10, 15, and 20%) in conventional diesel at various engine loads (20, 60, and 100%) were studied. Response surface approach was used to assess the researched variables in order to get the best model. The entire range of the proposed multivariate models was statistically significant in the current analysis, demonstrating the great accuracy of the models.

d-Limonene and 1-Pentanol Mixtures: Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium Analysis Using Molecular Dynamics.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data of fragrance components are crucial for product development and separation processes. However, experimentally obtaining these data can often be a high-cost and challenging task. In order to address this issue, simulations of VLE data using molecular dynamics (MD) methods have gained attention, though there are still relatively few studies about the vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations of fragrance components using MD. In this study, we focused on a mixture of d-limonene and 1-pentanol as representative components and conducted MD simulations. The VLE data o

Design an Energy-Conserving Pathway for Efficient Biosynthesis of 1,5-Pentanediol and 5-Amino-1-Pentanol.

1,5-Pentanediol (1,5-PDO) is an important five-carbon alcohol, widely used in polymer and pharmaceutical industries. Considering the substantial energy (ATP and NADPH) requirements of previous pathways, an energy-conserving artificial pathway with a higher theoretical yield (0.75 mol/mol glucose) was designed and constructed in this study. In this pathway, lysine is converted into 1,5-PDO by decarboxylation, two transamination, and two reduction reactions. For the purpose of full pathway construction, 5-aminopetanal reductase and 5-amino-1-pentanol (5-APO) transaminase were identified and char

Highly Branched poly(5-amino-1-pentanol-co-1,4-butanediol diacrylate) for High Performance Gene Transfection.

The top-performing linear poly(β-amino ester) (LPAE), poly(5-amino-1-pentanol-co-1,4-butanediol diacrylate) (C32), has demonstrated gene transfection efficiency comparable to viral-mediated gene delivery. Herein, we report the synthesis of a series of highly branched poly(5-amino-1-pentanol-co-1,4-butanediol diacrylate) (HC32) and explore how the branching structure influences the performance of C32 in gene transfection. HC32 were synthesized by an "A2 + B3 + C2" Michal addition strategy. Gaussia luciferase (Gluciferase) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) coding plasmid DNA were used as repor

Multi-objective optimisation of engine characteristics of an RCCI diesel engine powered with Jatropha/1-pentanol blend: a Taguchi-fuzzy approach.

Researchers are examining the possibilities for alternative fuel research as a fossil fuel replacement in light of global energy insecurity and other urgent challenges like global warming, severe emissions, and growing industrialization. This research uses 1-pentanol as a low reactivity fuel and Jatropha biodiesel as a high reactivity fuel to explore the reactivity-controlled compression ignition engine characteristics. A water-cooled single-cylinder engine is used in an experiment with varied loads of 25%, 50%, and 75% at a constant speed of 2000 rpm to examine the effects of operational para

New approach to IR study of monomer-dimer self-association: 2,2-dimethyl-3-ethyl-3-pentanol in tetrachloroethylene as an example.

The dimerization of 2,2-dimethyl-3-ethyl-3-pentanol in tetrachloroethylene in the diluted region has been studied at four temperatures by IR spectroscopy. The aforementioned solute compound is chosen because self-association beyond dimerization is hampered by the steric hindrance generated by the bulky sidechains. The integrated absorbances of the monomer bands were treated based on Eq. (9) to obtain its molar absorptivity and dimerization constant. The same dimerization constant as well as the molar absorptivity of dimer band can be obtained based on Eq. (13) from the data treatment of the in

Assessment of n-pentanol/Calophyllum inophyllum/diesel blends on the performance, emission, and combustion characteristics of a constant-speed variable compression ratio direct injection diesel engine.

Alcohol is used as an additive for a long time with the petroleum-based fuels. In this study, the higher alcohol, n-pentanol, was used as an additive to Calophyllum inophyllum (CI) biodiesel/diesel blends at 10, 15, and 20% by volume. In all blends, the ratio of CI was maintained at 20% by volume. The engine characteristics of the pentanol fuel blends were compared with the diesel and CI20 (Calophyllum inophyllum 20% and diesel 80%) biodiesel blend. The nitrogen oxide (NO) emission of the pentanol fuel blends showed an increased value than CI20 and neat diesel fuel. The carbon dioxide (CO2) al

The critical behavior of the dielectric constant in the polar + polar binary liquid mixture nitromethane + 3-pentanol: an unusual sign of its critical amplitude in the one-phase region.

Dielectric constant measurements have been carried out in the one- and two-phase regions near the critical point of the polar + polar binary liquid mixture nitromethane + 3-pentanol. In the two-phase region, evidence for the |t|(2β) singularity in the coexistence-curve diameter has been detected, thus confirming the novel predictions of complete scaling theory for liquid-liquid criticality. In the one-phase region, an "unusual" negative sign for the amplitude of the |t|(1-α) singularity has been encountered for the first time in an upper critical solution temperature type of binary liquid mixt
