Variation in Peperomia pellucida growth and secondary metabolism after rhizobacteria inoculation.

Peperomia pellucida L. Kunth is a herb well-known for its secondary metabolites (SM) with biological potential. In this study, the variations in the SM of P. pellucida during association with rhizobacteria were evaluated. Plants were inoculated with Enterobacter asburiae and Klebsiella variicola, which were identified by sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The data were evaluated at 7, 21, and 30-day post inoculation (dpi). Plant-bacteria symbiosis improved plant growth and weight. Total phenolic content and phenylalanine ammonia lyase enzyme activity had a significant increase mainly at 30 dpi.

Orsellinic Acid from the Endophytic Fusarium oxysporum Drives Specialized Metabolism in Peperomia obtusifolia.

The metabolic cooperation between plants and their endophytic fungi represents a promising frontier in the biosynthesis of natural products. This study elucidates the contribution of the endophytic fungus Fusarium oxysporum Po18 to the production of aromatic polyketides that drive specialized metabolism in Peperomia obtusifolia. Cultivation parameters for F. oxysporum were optimized using a Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD), revealing that mild temperatures (28 °C) and extended incubation (9 days) maximized orsellinic acid accumulation. LC-MS/MS identified orsellinic acid as [M-H]- at

Chemotaxonomy of Southeast Asian Peperomia (Piperaceae) Using High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography Colour Scale Fingerprint Imaging and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

The morphological characters of Southeast Asia's indigenous Peperomia species are very similar, especially in their flower structures. The flowers are simple, hermaphrodite and lack a perianth. Therefore, many species are hard to distinguish using morphological characters alone. Here, we apply chemometric data for species identification and classification, gathered using multiwavelength detection combined with the colour scale High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprinting procedure and chemical compounds determined by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).
