A 59-year-old man had a pedunculate perianal tumor initially thought to be a condyloma acuminatum. Since it failed to respond to topical podophyllum resin, the growth was excised and found to be an apocrine gland tumor. Histological features included a duct extending from the surface epidermis to multiple tubules, which led to cystic spaces with papillary projections of columnar epithelium. Decapitation secretion and fibrous stromal proliferation were prominent. The clinical and histological similarities to other apocrine gland adenomas are briefly presented.

The descending colon is a relatively rare site for mucinous adenocarcinoma. Anal ductal malignancy and multiple primary coloperianal mucinous adenocarcinomas are also rare. We have described the unusual finding of multiple primary synchronous mucinous adenocarcinomas in the descending colon and perianal glands. There was no evidence of any metastasis from the Dukes B lesion in the descending colon.

Anogenital mammary-like glands (MLGs) are a normal constituent of the anogenital area showing similarities to breast glands. MLGs are recognized to be the possible origin for various neoplastic and reactive conditions that show homology to their mammary counterparts. We report the case of an 85-year-old woman presenting with 10 cm polypoid mass of the perianal region. Histopathological examination of the excised lesion showed atypical apocrine proliferation arising in a complex lesion with features of fibroadenoma, adenosis and hyperplastic and cystic change. Normal MLGs were observed at the t

We report a case of well differentiated perianal mucinous carcinoma with associated dysplasia of the adjacent anal gland epithelium. Anal gland dysplasia is only rarely demonstrable histologically in cases of adenocarcinoma of suspected anal gland origin. The tumor was not associated with chronic perianal abscess or fistula formation, which had been regarded as important in the pathogenesis of perianal mucinous carcinoma. There was associated, clinically unsuspected Pegetoid intra-epidermal spread of adenocarcinoma in the perianal skin.

A case of primary mucinous (colloid) adenocarcinoma associated with multiple perianal fistulas and a supra-anal intergluteal abscess of a short duration is described. The origin of this tumor has been much debated. Some believe that the tumor occurs primarily in an anal duct or its glands with secondary fistula formation, whereas others claim that the tumor arises in a chronic fistulous tract. The present study substantiates the former concept on the basis of the mode of clinical presentation and the pathologic findings of a large tumor, without involvement of the anorectal mucosa. The residua

Fine-needle aspirates from a perianal mass on an 8-year-old, intact male, Miniature Poodle presenting for tenesmus showed a uniform population of well-differentiated hepatoid cells with no notable criteria of malignancy. The cytologic diagnosis was a perianal gland tumor, with adenoma likely given the cytomorphology. The abdominal ultrasound revealed multiple, markedly enlarged, intra-abdominal lymph nodes. LN aspirates also showed well-differentiated polygonal, hepatoid cells displaying no notable cellular atypia. The presence of the metastasis led to the interpretation of a well-differentiat

We present a case report of a cyst of Herrmann's glands. These glands have a vestigial origin and are present in more than 50% of the population. They are located in the posterior part of the anal duct. Their excretory duct, when it is permeable communicates with an anal krypt. They have their own microscopic, epithelial characteristics, and produce a mucoid secretion. They can cause acute (abscess) or chronic (fistula) infections of the peri-ano-rectal region. Cancer or cystic transformations are exceptional but typical. All these characteristics are so specific that Herrmann's glands cannot

Male C57BL/Icrf alpha t mice receiving long courses of weekly subcutaneous injections of 8.25 or 12.5 mg/kg, 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) developed perianal carcinomas as well as tumours at other sites. Tumours of the perianal gland or its associated hair root sheath and overlying skin included sebaceous gland adenocarcinomas, often with squamous metaplasia, analogous to those in the rat ear, and dysplasia, polyp formation and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). Of 152 mice treated, 88 remained after 30 injections, and 10 out of a total of 14 tumours developed after 30 treatments. Perianal SCC with

INTRODUCTION: Adenocarcinoma of anal gland origin is a rare tumor that develops extramurally in the submucosal space and presents with nonspecific symptoms. Consequently, it is difficult to distinguish from benign conditions, such as anal cysts and abscesses, making early diagnosis challenging. Herein, we report a rare case of early-stage mucinous adenocarcinoma with a partially solid mass that appeared to have arisen from the anal glands and was initially diagnosed and treated as a perianal cyst.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old man presented to a local clinic with difficulty in defecation.

Mammary-type fibroepithelial lesions involving ectopic breast and anogenital region are rare and usually coexist with normal orthotopic breast. We present what we believe to be a unique case of synchronous bilateral gestational gigantomastia resembling fibrous mastopathy, synchronous rapidly growing pregnancy-associated nodular pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia involving right breast and bilateral axillary ectopic breast tissue, and metachronous perianal mammary-type hamartoma involving anogenital mammary-like glands occurring in a 34-year-old patient with facioscapulohumeral muscular dyst

Studies on the circumanal skin of a three-week-old puppy have shown that, contrary to the adult dogs, sebaceous glands are absent here (although they are well-developed in other skin sites of the puppy). Hepatoid glands accompany every hair follicle; they differ considerably from hepatoid glands of adult dogs. Hepatoid circumanal glands of the three-week old puppy are represented by two histological varieties of this glandular type which are capable of producing hydrophobic lipids, are rather poor in protein, and do not possess cysts--while in adult dogs they are represented by only one variet

AIMS: Perianal fistulae are often observed in patients with Crohn's disease (CD), although the development of associated adenocarcinomas is very rare. The origin of adenocarcinomas in perianal fistulae associated with CD remains controversial and includes adjacent anal glands or rectal mucosa. Here, we attempted to determine the origin.
METHODS: We performed immunohistochemical analysis on seven cases of adenocarcinomas in perianal fistulae associated with CD using antibodies against mucins (MUCs), cytokeratins (CKs) and the intestine-specific transcription factor CDX2.
RESULTS: MUC2 and CK2

Cryptoglandular perianal fistula is a common benign anorectal disorder that is managed mainly with surgery. A fistula is typically defined as a pathological communication between two epithelialized surfaces. More specifically, perianal fistula manifests as an abnormal tract between the anorectal canal and the perianal skin. Perianal fistulas are often characterized by significantly decreased patient quality of life. The cryptoglandular theory of perianal fistulas suggests their development from the proctodeal glands, which originate from the intersphincteric plane and perforate the internal sp

Perianal fistula is a very common problem in general population. Ninety percent of perianal fistulae arise from infected anal glands, and they often give rise to perianal abscesses. Very rarely perianal fistulae and abscesses undergo malignant transformation and give rise to carcinomas, mainly adenocarcinomas. We are reporting a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from long-standing perianal fistula and how we managed it surgically.

BACKGROUND: Eccrine glands (sweat glands) appear in all sites of the skin and are more abundant in hands and feet. Nodular hidradenocarcinoma (NH) is a rare malignant and aggressive tumor of the eccrine glands. The objective of this study is to report a case of perianal hidradenocarcinoma.
CLINICAL CASE: We present the case of a 75-year-old female with diabetes, hypertension, and hypothyroidism. Physical examination revealed a small perianal tumor that was palpated near the anal canal. Biopsy was done. Pathology report revealed perianal hidradenoma. Rectosigmoidoscopy was normal. Computed tom

Endometriosis is common benign disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. Endometriosis of perianal region is a rare condition. We report a case of perianal endometriosis presenting initially as a perianal abscess. Transperineal ultrasound showed a 1.5 cm size irregular mixed echogenicity lesion without involving anal sphincters. Complete surgical excision was performed. The histopathological examination confirmed as endometriosis.

Gross and microanatomic features which may predispose the German Shepherd Dog to perianal fistulae formation were studied in 2 groups of clinically healthy dogs: a predisposed group (German Shepherd Dogs) and a control group comprising breeds not ordinarily affected by perianal fistulae. The dimensions of the anal crypts (depth, base width, and length), measured and compared statistically between samples, identified no significant variation between groups (P greater than 0.05). Major tissue components of the anal canal were measured microscopically and were similarly evaluated: epithelial heig
