The effect of copper deficiency on heart microsomal phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis and concentration.

The effect of dietary copper deficiency on phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic enzymes, phosphatidylethanolamine methyltransferase, phosphatidyldimethyltransferase and choline phosphotransferase of heart microsomes was measured in rats. The data indicated that dietary copper deficiency can alter phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis and concentration in microsomal membranes of the heart. There was a significant decrease in the specific activity of choline phosphotransferase. There was a significant decrease in the concentration of total phospholipid-P, phosphatidylcholine-P, phosphatidylethanolamine-P

Pathways for phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis in bacteria.

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the major membrane-forming phospholipid in eukaryotes with important structural and signalling functions. Although many prokaryotes lack PC, it can be found in significant amounts in membranes of rather diverse bacteria. Two pathways for PC biosynthesis are known in bacteria, the methylation pathway and the phosphatidylcholine synthase (PCS) pathway. In the methylation pathway, phosphatidylethanolamine is methylated three times to yield PC, in reactions catalysed by one or several phospholipid N-methyltransferases (PMTs). In the PCS pathway, choline is condensed dir

Petit-High Pressure Carbon Dioxide stress increases synthesis of S-Adenosylmethionine and phosphatidylcholine in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Petit-High Pressure Carbon Dioxide (p-HPCD) is a promising nonthermal technology for foods pasteurization. Cluster analysis of gene expression profiles of Saccharomyces cerevisiae exposed to various stresses exhibited that gene expression profile for p-HPCD stress (0.5MPa, 25°C) was grouped into a cluster including profiles for Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Roundup herbicide. Both are detergents that can disorder membrane structurally and functionally, which suggests that cell membrane may be a target of p-HPCD stress to cause cell growth inhibition. Through metabolomic analysis, amount of S-Aden

Membrane alterations in magnesium-deficiency-induced malignant T cell lymphoma.

Malignant T cell lymphoma cells induced in the thymus by chronic Mg deficiency showed a less ruffled surface in the scanning electron microscope, particularly after intraperitoneal transplantation. Their content of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylinositol was increased. The content of phosphatidylcholine, cholesterol and the cholesterol/phospholipid ratio, and thus membrane microviscosity, were decreased. The activity of phospholipid methyltransferase I and II was reduced. In parallel to these alterations, 45Ca2+ influx and efflux as well as 45Ca2+ content in mitochondria, microsomes and cy
