Monoalkyl Phosphinic Acids as Ligands in Nanocrystal Synthesis.

Ligands play a crucial role in the synthesis of colloidal nanocrystals. Nevertheless, only a handful molecules are currently used, oleic acid being the most typical example. Here, we show that monoalkyl phosphinic acids are another interesting ligand class, forming metal complexes with a reactivity that is intermediate between the traditional carboxylates and phosphonates. We first present the synthesis of n-hexyl, 2-ethylhexyl, n-tetradecyl, n-octadecyl, and oleylphosphinic acid. These compounds are suitable ligands for high-temperature nanocrystal synthesis (240-300 °C) since, in contrast to

Phosphaannulation by palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of C-H bonds of phosphonic and phosphinic acids.

An efficient phosphaannulation by Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of C-H bonds of phosphonic and phosphinic acids for the synthesis of oxaphosphorinanone oxides is reported. These compounds are novel phosphorus heterocyclic scaffolds, thus opening a new avenue to sequential C-C/C-O bond formation in one pot.

Acid-Catalyzed Dehydrocoupling of Phosphines.

A new strategy for transition-metal-free, Bro̷nsted acid-catalyzed dehydrocoupling of P-H bonds in organophosphorus compounds is described. Using para-benzoquinones as hydrogen acceptors, this method enables room-temperature coupling of primary and secondary phosphines to form P-P-bonded products. Ortho-phosphinophenol (PP) and ortho-diphosphinobenzene (DPB) are efficiently converted to the heterocyclic dimers [C6H4P(O)]2 (DBODP) and [C6H4P(PH)]2 (DBTP), respectively, in the presence of catalytic quantities of strong Bro̷nsted acids (or AlCl3) and 2,5-di-tert-butyl-1,4-benzoquinone (tBuBQ). Effect of perfluoroalkyl chain length on proton conduction in fluoroalkylated phosphonic, phosphinic, and sulfonic acids.

The effects of increasing perfluoroalkyl chain length on the molecular properties of viscosity, diffusivity, and ionic conductivity of a series of acid model compounds analogous to comb-branch perfluorinated ionomers functionalized with phosphonic, phosphinic, and sulfonic protogenic groups are reported. Anhydrous proton transport by a Grotthuss-like hopping mechanism was observed to occur efficiently in phosphorus-based fluoroalkylated model acids but only when there is a relatively low perfluoroalkyl content. The decrease in degree of dissociation of the protogenic groups follows the order p

Selective and clean synthesis of aminoalkyl-H-phosphinic acids from hypophosphorous acid by phospha-Mannich reaction.

Aminoalkyl-H-phosphinic acids, also called aminoalkylphosphonous acids, are investigated as biologically active analogues of carboxylic amino acids and/or as valuable intermediates for synthesis of other aminoalkylphosphorus acids. Their synthesis has been mostly accomplished by phospha-Mannich reaction of a P-H precursor, an aldehyde and an amine. The reaction is rarely clean and high-yielding. Here, reaction of H3PO2 with secondary amines and formaldehyde in wet AcOH led to aminomethyl-H-phosphinic acids in nearly quantitative yields and with almost no by-products. Surprisingly, the reaction

Polymer-Supported Phosphoric, Phosphonic and Phosphinic Acids-From Synthesis to Properties and Applications in Separation Processes.

Efficient separation technologies are crucial to the environment and world economy. The challenge posed to scientists is how to engineer selectivity towards a targeted substrate, especially from multicomponent solutions. Polymer-supported reagents have gained a lot of attention in this context, as they eliminate a lot of inconveniences concerning widely used solvent extraction techniques. Nevertheless, the choice of an appropriate ligand for immobilization may be derived from the behavior of soluble compounds under solvent extraction conditions. Organophosphorus compounds play a significant ro

One-Step Esterification of Phosphoric, Phosphonic and Phosphinic Acids with Organosilicates: Phosphorus Chemical Recycling of Sewage Waste.

Global concerns regarding the depletion and strategic importance of phosphorus resources have increased demand for the recovery and recycling. However, waste-derived phosphorus compounds, primarily as chemically inert phosphoric acid or its salts, present a challenge to their direct conversion into high-value chemicals. We aimed to develop an innovative technology that utilizes the large quantities of sewage waste, bypasses the use of white phosphorus, and enables esterification of phosphoric acid to produce widely applicable phosphate triesters. Tetraalkyl orthosilicates emerged as highly eff

Method for the synthesis of phosphinic acids from hypophosphites. V. The synthesis of pseudo-alpha,alpha-dipeptides.

The method for the synthesis of 2-substituted 2-hydroxycarbonylethyl-1-aminoalkylphosphinic acids (I) (pseudo-alpha,alpha-dipeptides) from ammonium and potassium hypophosphites (II) is described. The proposed route to the synthesis of pseudo-alpha,alpha-dipeptides consists in addition hypophosphite to acrylic compounds and formation of the first phosphorus-carbon bond with following addition of aminoacid fragment and formation of the second phosphorus-carbon bond. The key intermediates of the synthesis - phosphonous acids (III) and their silylic esters (IV) were obtained at the first stage of

Underlying Mechanisms for the Sex- and Chemical-Specific Hepatotoxicity of Perfluoroalkyl Phosphinic Acids in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio).

The hepatotoxicities of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been extensively investigated, while little is known about the sex-specific differences. In this study, common carp were exposed to the emerging perfluoroalkyl phosphinic acids (6:6 and 8:8 PFPiAs) for 14 days to disclose sex-specific hepatotoxicity. Apparent hepatotoxicity, including cell necrosis, apoptosis, and steatosis, was observed in both male and female carp liver. The observed hepatocyte steatosis was predominantly attributed to the dysregulation of hepatic lipid metabolism but was based on sex-specific

Biosynthesis of phosphonic and phosphinic acid natural products.

Natural products containing carbon-phosphorus bonds (phosphonic and phosphinic acids) have found widespread use in medicine and agriculture. Recent years have seen a renewed interest in the biochemistry and biology of these compounds with the cloning of the biosynthetic gene clusters for several family members. This review discusses the commonalities and differences in the molecular logic that lie behind the biosynthesis of these compounds. The current knowledge regarding the metabolic pathways and enzymes involved in the production of a number of natural products, including the approved antib

H-phosphinic analogs of natural amino acids: a novel and efficient treatment for preventing biodeterioration of treasured painted artworks.

INTRODUCTION: Microorganisms can destroy various materials that make up objects of cultural heritage. In particular, ancient tempera paintings are made with egg yolk, animal glue, and a number of other organic materials, which serve as a good breeding ground for the development of microorganisms. Recently, the range of traditional antiseptics used to protect tempera paintings from biodeterioration has been significantly reduced because of undesirable properties associated with their interaction with painting materials and toxicity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new generation of anti

Simultaneous determination of the lipophilicity and dissociation constants of dialkyl phosphinic acids by negligible depletion hollow fiber membrane-protected liquid-phase microextraction.

Determination of the physicochemical properties, especially the lipophilicity (expressed as the logarithm of distribution coefficient, log D) and dissociation constant (pKa), is of great importance in the early stage of environmental risk assessment for an ionizable compound without these data. Currently, the log D and pKa values of dialkyl phosphinic acids (DPAs), the environmental hydrolysates of aluminum dialkyl phosphinates (ADPs) that is one class of emerging phosphorus-containing flame retardants, are not available. In this study, the log D and pKa values of three DPAs including methylet

Lewis Acid-Mediated Defluorination of Trifluoromethylarenes To Access Trivalent Phosphines.

Considering the strong inertness of the C-F bond, defluorinative functionalization of aromatic trifluoromethyl substrates has long been a formidable challenge, particularly with new functional groups introduced. Herein, we report a Lewis acid-mediated defluorinative transformation of aryl trifluoromethyl skeletons, enabling efficient access to trivalent phosphorus compounds. The reaction proceeds under simple conditions with high efficiency and broad substrate scope, and its demonstrated scalability further underscores its practical value. Moreover, aryl difluoro- and monofluoromethyl candidat

Hypochlorous Acid-Gated Hydrolysis of a Phosphinate Ester Dye in Living Cells.

Theranostic fluorescent platforms are capable of the selective delivery of small molecules to target cells with simultaneous optical monitoring. Such technologies promise to significantly reduce off-target effects compared with cytotoxic chemotherapy. However, small-molecule approaches are often hindered by relatively complex designs that are required to incorporate a fluorescent reporter, reactive linker, targeting ligand, and cargo into a single molecule. Herein, we provide the first direct evidence for the ability to gate the delivery of small-molecule cargos from phosphinate ester-containi

The Biological Impact of Some Phosphonic and Phosphinic Acid Derivatives on Human Osteosarcoma.

Osteosarcoma malignancy currently represents a major health problem; therefore, the need for new therapy approaches is of great interest. In this regard, the current study aims to evaluate the anti-neoplastic potential of a newly developed phosphinic acid derivative (2-carboxyethylphenylphosphinic acid) and, subsequently, to outline its pharmaco-toxicological profile by employing two different in vitro human cell cultures (keratinocytes-HaCaT-and osteosarcoma SAOS-2 cells), employing different techniques (MTT assay, cell morphology assessment, LDH assay, Hoechst staining and RT-PCR). Stereospecific coupling of H-phosphinates and secondary phosphine oxides with amines and alcohols: a general method for the preparation of optically active organophosphorus acid derivatives.

The reaction of H-phosphinates and secondary phosphine oxides with amines and alcohols proceeds highly stereospecifically to give the corresponding coupling products with inversion of configuration at the phosphorus center under the Atherton-Todd reaction conditions. This finding leads to the establishment of a general and efficient method for the synthesis of a variety of optically active organophosphorus acid derivatives from the easily available chiral H-phosphinates and secondary phosphine oxides.

Electrochemical thioester synthesis enabled by phosphine promotion from carboxylic acids and disulfides.

Thioesters serve as important pharmacophores and synthetic intermediates, yet their conventional synthesis typically requires high temperatures, transition metal catalysts, or toxic and malodorous thiols. Herein, we present a simple and green electrochemical approach for the thioesterification of carboxylic acids with aromatic disulfides as direct sulfur surrogates, promoted by triphenylphosphine. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions without requiring transition metals, external reducing agents, or inert atmosphere. A broad scope of aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic carboxylic acids
