Reducing Iron Oxide Content in Phosphoric Acid Using Polyacrylates and Phosphonic Acids.

Phosphoric acid is the second most produced and consumed inorganic acid in the world and the most important intermediary in the production of phosphate fertilizers. The quality and agronomic utilization of phosphate fertilizers are highly dependent on the levels of contaminants present on the phosphoric acid, especially iron oxides. The presence of iron oxides in phosphate fertilizers results in the formation of iron phosphates possessing lower agronomic efficiency and a reduced commercial value. The wet-process phosphoric acid uses phosphate rocks or concentrates as a source of P2O5. Most pho

Complexity in Acid-Base Titrations: Multimer Formation Between Phosphoric Acids and Imines.

Solutions of Brønsted acids with bases in aprotic solvents are not only common model systems to study the fundamentals of proton transfer pathways but are also highly relevant to Brønsted acid catalysis. Despite their importance the light nature of the proton makes characterization of acid-base aggregates challenging. Here, we track such acid-base interactions over a broad range of relative compositions between diphenyl phosphoric acid and the base quinaldine in dichloromethane, by using a combination of dielectric relaxation and NMR spectroscopy. In contrast to what one would expect for an ac

Control of Bacterial Wilt of Geranium with Phosphorous Acid.

Various bactericides were screened for efficacy in protecting geranium plants (Pelargonium hortorum) from Ralstonia solanacearum infection. Many of these bactericides were found to slow the disease progress; however, they were not able to protect the plants from infection and subsequent death. Potassium salts of phosphorous acid were found to be effective in protecting plants from infection when applied as a drench. The active portion of the potassium salts was found to be phosphorous acid (H3PO3). Phosphorous acid was found to inhibit in vitro growth of R. solanacearum. It is thought to be pr

Chemical interaction of phosphoric acid ester with hydroxyapatite.

Among functional monomers used in contemporary dental adhesives, 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) has been found to interact chemically with hydroxyapatite (HAp) most intensively and stably. This effect was thought to be the basis of the superior bonding effectiveness of MDP-based self-etch adhesives to enamel/dentin. To elucidate fully the chemical interaction and reactivity of MDP with HAp, we used (31)P CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy and powder x-ray diffraction. In an aqueous ethanol solution, Ca ions were leached from HAp to form, at short term, a MDP-calcium salt (CaMHP(2)) la

Pulpal response to the application of phosphoric acid to dentin.

Experimental cavities were prepared in forty-six clinically intact premolars of young individuals to evaluate the biologic effects of 50 per cent phosphoric acid etchant containing 7 percent zinc oxide by weight. The experimental periods ranged from 30 minutes to 150 days. The remaining dentin thickness varied from 1.8 to 3.5 mm. The teeth treated with the acid showed no more than a moderate pulpal response at the varying time periods. All of the acid-treated teeth demonstrated pulpal imflammation in the absence of clinical pain. Acid etchants should not be used on exposed or unprotected denti

Polymer-Supported Phosphoric, Phosphonic and Phosphinic Acids-From Synthesis to Properties and Applications in Separation Processes.

Efficient separation technologies are crucial to the environment and world economy. The challenge posed to scientists is how to engineer selectivity towards a targeted substrate, especially from multicomponent solutions. Polymer-supported reagents have gained a lot of attention in this context, as they eliminate a lot of inconveniences concerning widely used solvent extraction techniques. Nevertheless, the choice of an appropriate ligand for immobilization may be derived from the behavior of soluble compounds under solvent extraction conditions. Organophosphorus compounds play a significant ro

Phosphoric Acid Triester Micelles: Characterization and Self-Assembly.

In this study, we analyzed the properties of amphiphilic alkyldi(methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MePEG)350-lactate) phosphates based on ethyl lactate, the monomethyl ether of poly(ethylene glycol)350, and alkyldichloro phosphates. Interestingly, these triesters combine two biodegradable bonds, -P(O)-O-C and -C(O)-O-C-, and include hydrophilic (MePEG350-lactate) and hydrophobic (R-aliphatic chain of alcohols) moieties. The properties of these esters resemble those of phospholipids. After being placed in an aqueous solution, they self-assembled. We also determined the effects of ester composition

One-Step Esterification of Phosphoric, Phosphonic and Phosphinic Acids with Organosilicates: Phosphorus Chemical Recycling of Sewage Waste.

Global concerns regarding the depletion and strategic importance of phosphorus resources have increased demand for the recovery and recycling. However, waste-derived phosphorus compounds, primarily as chemically inert phosphoric acid or its salts, present a challenge to their direct conversion into high-value chemicals. We aimed to develop an innovative technology that utilizes the large quantities of sewage waste, bypasses the use of white phosphorus, and enables esterification of phosphoric acid to produce widely applicable phosphate triesters. Tetraalkyl orthosilicates emerged as highly eff

Moderate molecular recognitions on ZnO m-plane and their selective capture/release of bio-related phosphoric acids.

Herein, we explore the hidden molecular recognition abilities of ZnO nanowires uniformly grown on the inner surface of an open tubular fused silica capillary via liquid chromatography. Chromatographic evaluation revealed that ZnO nanowires showed a stronger intermolecular interaction with phenylphosphoric acid than any other monosubstituted benzene. Furthermore, ZnO nanowires specifically recognized the phosphate groups present in nucleotides even in the aqueous mobile phase, and the intermolecular interaction increased with the number of phosphate groups. This discrimination of phosphate grou

Association Equilibria of Organo-Phosphoric Acids with Imines from a Combined Dielectric and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Approach.

Aggregates formed between organo-phosphoric acids and imine bases in aprotic solvents are the reactive intermediates in Brønsted acid organo-catalysis. Due to the strong hydrogen-bonding interaction of the acids in solution, multiple homo- and heteroaggregates are formed with profound effects on catalytic activity. Yet, due to the similar binding motifs-hydrogen-bonds-it is challenging to experimentally quantify the abundance of these aggregates in solution. Here we demonstrate that a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) allows for accura

Determination of chloride and sulfate in semiconductor-grade etchants comprised of acetic acid, nitric acid and phosphoric acid.

The variable-capacity Dionex Cryptand A1 column was used for the determination of low-ppm levels of chloride and sulfate in etchants comprised of acetic acid, nitric acid and phosphoric acid. All possible ratios of the three acids could be analyzed for chloride and sulfate, if the samples were first diluted 1:100. However, a suitable eluent program was found to be needed for each mixture. A proprietary formulation was chosen to undergo this suitability determination. The resulting gradient was 10 mM KOH with a step to 30 mM NaOH at 15 min, flow-rate=0.5 ml/min; column temperature=29 degrees C;

Asymmetric Allylation Catalyzed by Chiral Phosphoric Acids: Stereoselective Synthesis of Tertiary Alcohols and a Reagent-Based Switch in Stereopreference.

The substrate scope of the asymmetric allylation with zinc organyls catalyzed by 3,3-bis(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl)-1,1-binaphthyl-2,2-diyl hydrogenphosphate (TRIP) has been extended to non-cyclic ester organozinc reagents and ketones. Tertiary chiral alcohols are obtained with ee's up to 94% and two stereogenic centers can be created. Compared to the previous lactone reagent the stereopreference switches almost completely, proving the fact that the nature of the organometallic compound is of immense importance for the asymmetry of the product.

Enhancement of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid-Mediated Photodynamic Inactivation of Proteus mirabilis Using Phosphoric and Bisaminophosphinic Acids as Permeabilizing Agents.

The purpose of this work was to examine the effect of phosphoric and bisaminophosphinic acids on the effectiveness of photoinactivation of Proteus mirabilis with 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) as a precursor of protoporphyrin IX. Two diode lasers λ = 404 nm (radiation intensity 26 mW cm-2) and λ = 630 nm (radiation intensity 55 mW cm-2) were used as sources of light. The most effective agent was (R)-(-)-1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diylhydrogen phosphate, and a significant improvement in bactericidal effect of 5-ALA-aPDI was achieved by pretreating P. mirabilis with this compound at nontoxic concentrat
