Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising treatment for musculoskeletal maladies and clinical data to date have shown that PRP is safe. However, evidence of its efficacy has been mixed and highly variable depending on the specific indication. Additional future high-quality large clinical trials will be critical in shaping our perspective of this treatment option. The heterogeneity of PRP preparations, both presently and historically, leads sweeping recommendations about its utility impossible to make. This heterogeneity has also made interpreting existing literature more complicated.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an orthobiologic therapy composed of platelets, leukocytes, red blood cells, and plasma proteins. PRP has been used for 20 years, but progress determining efficacy has been slow. The definitions and classification of PRP are reviewed, and the use of PRP for tendon, ligament, and joint disease is discussed with a focus on findings of basic science and clinical studies, platelet activation, concurrent administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and treatment complications. Finally, the advantages of platelet lysates and freeze-dried platelets are discuss

Orthobiologics have evolved to the extent that they significantly influence modern orthopedic surgical practice. A better understanding of the role of various growth factors and cells in the process of tendon healing, ligament repair, cartilage regeneration and bone formation has stimulated focused research in many chronic musculoskeletal ailments. Investigators have published results of laboratory as well as clinical studies, using orthobiologics like platelet rich plasma, stem cells, autologous conditioned serum etc., with variable results. However, a clear consensus over the best orthobiolo

Repeated joint bleeding leads to chronic synovitis, cartilage damage and bone alterations which result in haemophilic arthropathy and are associated with pain, functional impairment and poor quality of life. There are evidence that Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) have different mechanisms of action in the treatment of arthropathy for this reason we decided to use both components. The aim of this study is to compare, the efficacy, safety and duration of a single intra-articular injection of PRP against PRP+HA for pain, bleeding episodes and joint health, in the same patient

Nearly three decades have now passed since autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) were introduced into clinical practice. Harnessing the body's innate intrinsic capacity for healing, the concepts of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) emerged to concentrate growth factors and cells at supra-physiological levels. Nearly three decades ago, Professor Robert Marx demonstrated that PRP-obtained via centrifugation of whole blood with anti-coagulants-could accelerate healing across a wide range of indications in both dentistry and medicine. Subsequent research showed that elimi

INTRODUCTION: Alopecia areata is a common recurrent T cell-mediated autoimmune-induced non-scarring hair loss with not fully understood pathogenesis. It affects nearly 2% of the general population during lifetime. The course of the disease is unpredictable, and currently no treatment is available for complete cure or prevention. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood-derived product, which has widely spread in the last decades for treatment of different dermatological conditions including hair disorders.
METHODS: The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of activ

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained growing popularity in the treatment of articular cartilage lesions in the last decade. However, the potential harmful effects of leukocytes in PRP on cartilage regeneration have seldom been studied in vitro, and not at all in vivo yet. The objective of the present study is to compare the effects of leukocyte- and platelet-rich plasma (L-PRP) and pure platelet-rich plasma (P-PRP) on cartilage repair and NF-κB pathway, in order to explore the mechanism underlying the function of leukocytes in PRP in cartilage regeneration. The constituent analysis showed tha

Osteoarthritis is a prevalent chronic disease. One of its primary pathological processes involves the degeneration of articular cartilage. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains cytokines and growth factors that can stimulate the repair and regeneration of articular cartilage tissues. PRP may also slow the progression of osteoarthritis. The purpose of this experiment is to compare the efficacy of Leukocyte poor (LP) - PRP and Leukocyte rich (LR) - PRP in treating rabbit osteoarthritis and to investigate their mechanisms of action. Analyzing the impact of leukocytes on PRP therapeutic effectivenes

The goal of these recommendations is to provide a framework to practitioners for implementing useful, evidence-based recommendations for the preparation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and its use in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) assigned the task of preparing these recommendations to its taskforce on PRP. A comprehensive literature search was done in the English language on the PRP across multiple databases. The grade of evidence and strength of recommendation were evaluated on the GRADE (Grading of Recommendation,

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a preparation for therapeutic purposes that is increasingly accepted for various musculoskeletal disorders, due to its theoretical potential to repair tissues with poor healing capacity. Several randomised clinical trials have investigated the capacity of PRP to repair tendons, ligaments, muscles and cartilage, and to date there is level 1a evidence to support its use for lateral epicondylitis, osteoarthritis of the knee, plantar fasciitis and rotator cuff tendinopathy; and level 1b for patellar tendinopathy and osteoarthritis of the hip. Retrospective cohort stud

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous concentration of platelets in concentrated plasma, which is extensively used to promote soft and hard tissue healing. The significance behind its use refers to the abundance of growth factors present in a well-prepared PRP concentrate. These growth factors enhance the rate and quality of wound healing by different mechanisms. The objective of this review article is to explain the biological aspect of hard and soft tissue healing by application of PRP in conjunctions with its molecular basis.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be incorporated into the treatment of androgenic alopecia and aging facial skin. Genital rejuvenation involves the management of extrinsic (traumatic) and intrinsic (aging) changes of the vagina and scrotum. Lipofilling-with the additional injection of PRP (with or without hyaluronic acid)-has been used to successfully treat vaginal atrophy and vaginal laxity; the unexpected resolution of lichen sclerosus in one of the women prompts the consideration to initially use PRP for the treatment of this condition not only in women but also men. Additional evaluation of

There is good scientific rationale to support the use of growth factors to promote musculoskeletal tissue regeneration. However, the clinical effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and other blood-derived products has yet to be proven. Characterization and reporting of PRP preparation protocols utilized in clinical trials for the treatment of musculoskeletal disease is highly inconsistent, and the majority of studies do not provide sufficient information to allow the protocols to be reproduced. Furthermore, the reporting of blood-derived products in orthopaedics is limited by the multiple

In recent years, the use of platelet-rich plasma has increased notably in a range of diseases and settings. Uses of these products now go beyond skin rejuvenation therapy in patients with facial ageing. Good outcomes for other dermatological indications such as skin ulcers and, more recently, alopecia have been reported in case series and controlled studies. However, these indications are not currently included in the labeling given that stronger scientific evidence is required to support their real benefits. With the increased use of these products, dermatologists need to become familiar with

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are biological products derived from the plasma fraction of autologous blood that have a platelet concentration above that of the original blood. Cytokines and growth factors are present in platelet-based preparations, and their application has gained great attention in dentistry. The aim of this review was to comprehensively examine the latest scientific evidence on the use of PRF and PRP in oral surgery, and to describe current operational protocols. Platelet-rich fibrin is used after third molar extractions, in the treatment of alveo

INTRODUCTION: Plantar heel pain is the most frequent type of plantar pain in adults. The cellular composition of the platelet concentrates used (leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma [LR-PRP], leukocyte-poor PRP [LP-PRP], and injectable platelet-rich fibrin [iPRF]) as well as the kinetics of their growth-factor release differ; however, there is no head-to-head evidence thus far for plantar fasciitis (PF) treatment. We aim to assess pain relief, functional results, and plantar fascia thickness in patients with chronic PF treated with LR-PRP, LP-PRP, or iPRF.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective

BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) have become popular autologous options for facial rejuvenation due to their regenerative potential and favorable safety profiles. The periorbital region remains one of the most challenging treatment sites, as conventional approaches such as hyaluronic acid fillers carry a risk of complications and may not provide natural, sustained results.
AIM: This systematic review aims to compare injectable PRP and PRF in periorbital rejuvenation, with emphasis on treatment protocols, efficacy, adverse effects, and patient-reported outc
