Skin disorders affect millions of people all over the world. There are limited options to treat dermal illnesses such as vitiligo, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis (eczema). Central American ferns are a potential source of bioactive metabolites against those diseases. Currently, Polypodium leucotomos Poir. is the only one being commercially utilized for this purpose. In this work, we evaluated the concentration of the skin bioactive compounds: quinic and chlorogenic acid, in the extract of 20 wild ferns from Costa Rica. We also evaluated the antimicrobial capabilities of the crude extracts of

Rhizoma Drynariae (RD), derived from the desiccated rhizome of Drynaria fortunei (Kunze) J. Sm., has been researched for its potential therapeutic efficacy in modulating inflammatory responses (IR) and treating osteoporosis (OP). Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms through which RD attenuates OP by modulating the IR microenvironment have yet to be thoroughly elucidated. Consequently, this study aimed to assess the impact of RD on IR and OP through integrated zebrafish and cellular model assays, focusing on the quantification of neutrophil recruitment, bone mineralization area, and the level

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized membrane vesicles released by various cell types. Mammalian EVs have been studied in-depth, but the role of plant EVs has rarely been explored. For the first time, EVs from Drynariae Rhizoma roots were isolated and identified using transmission electron microscopy and a flow nano analyzer. Proteomics and bioinformatics were applied to determine the protein composition and complete the functional analysis of the EVs. Seventy-seven proteins were identified from Drynariae Rhizoma root-derived EVs, with enzymes accounting for 47% of the proteins. All of

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Recognizing lineages is a central challenge in plant systematics, making it essential to explore multiple analytical tools. In this context, this study investigates how frond shape can assist in discriminating against lineages within the Scaly clade of Microgramma (Polypodiaceae), and tests whether the integration of multiple lines of evidence enables a more consistent recognition of lineages than exclusively macromorphological approaches.
METHODS: We analyzed 271 specimens representing eight species, using Elliptical Fourier Analysis (EFA) to quantify frond shape, follow
