The major allergen of peach (Prunus persica) is a lipid transfer protein.

BACKGROUND: Allergy to fresh fruits and vegetables is mostly observed in subjects with pollinosis, especially from birch, because of cross-reacting allergens in vegetable foods and pollens. However, allergic reactions to fruits, specifically Rosaceae fruits, have been reported in subjects without pollinosis. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the pattern of IgE reactivity, identifying the allergen responsible in 2 groups of patients with oral allergy syndrome to peach with or without birch pollinosis. METHODS: The allergenic components of peach were detected by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting. The

Application of nondestructive techniques for peach (Prunus persica) quality inspection: A review.

Peaches are highly valued for their rich nutritional content. Traditional fruit quality accessing methods (i.e., manual squeezing the fruit for firmness) are both subjective and destructive, which tend to diminish the integrity of fruit samples, consequently undermining their market value. Compared to traditional detection methods, nondestructive technology offers efficient and noninvasive solutions for rapidly and accurately assessing internal external quality of peaches. This can significantly enhance product classification and quality assurance while reducing the need for extensive human re

Glucitol dehydrogenase from peach (Prunus persica) fruits is regulated by thioredoxin h.

Glucitol (Gol) is a major photosynthetic product in plants from the Rosaceae family. Herein we report the molecular cloning, heterologous expression and characterization of Gol dehydrogenase (GolDHase, EC 1.1.1.14) from peach (Prunus persica) fruits. The recombinant enzyme showed kinetic parameters similar to those reported for orthologous enzymes purified from apple and pear fruits. The activity of recombinant GolDHase was strongly inhibited by Cu(2+) and Hg(2+), suggesting that it might have cysteine residues critical for functionality. Oxidizing compounds (such as diamide, hydrogen peroxide

Genome-Wide Analysis Characterization and Evolution of SBP Genes in Fragaria vesca, Pyrus bretschneideri, Prunus persica and Prunus mume.

The SQUAMOSA promoter binding protein (SBP)-box proteins are plant-specific transcriptional factors in plants. SBP TFs are known to play important functions in a diverse development process and also related in the process of evolutionary novelties. SBP gene family has been characterized in several plant species, but little is known about molecular evolution, functional divergence and comprehensive study of SBP gene family in Rosacea. We carried out genome-wide investigations and identified 14, 32, 17, and 17 SBP genes from four Rosacea species (Fragaria vesca, Pyrus bretschneideri, Prunus pers

Endothelium-Dependent Vasorelaxant Effect of Prunus Persica Branch on Isolated Rat Thoracic Aorta.

Peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) is a popular fruit consumed by people worldwide, owing to its pleasant flavor and high mineral nutrient content. A few plants from the genus Prunus, such as Prunus yedoensis, Prunus cerasus, and Prunus serotina have shown vasorelaxant and vasodilatory effects, to date, no study has investigated the vasorelaxation effects of the P. persica branch extract (PPE). The vasorelaxant effect of PPE was endothelium-dependent, and it was related to the NO-sGC-cGMP, vascular prostacyclin, and muscarinic receptor transduction pathway. K+ channels, such as the BKCa, KV, a

Preharvest sorbitol application modulates phytohormone profiles and enhances nutraceutical quality of extra-early nectarine (Prunus persica).

Foliar sorbitol applications (1, 2, and 5%) at different developmental stages were assessed in extra-early nectarines. Early, high-dose treatments (5% E1) acted as potent metabolic modulators, shifting the hormonal balance by increasing abscisic acid (ABA), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), and ethylene signaling, promoting advanced ripening and concentrated harvest. This hormonal regulation was associated with enhanced accumulation of high-value phytochemicals: significantly enhancing peel anthocyanins (e.g., cyanidin-3-glucoside), total phenolics (chlorogenic acid, flavan-3-ols), and carotenoids,

Identification of potential molecular markers for detection of lengthy chilled storage of Prunus persica L. fruit.

Low temperature is the main strategy to preserve fruit quality post-harvest, in the supply chain. Low temperatures reduce the respiration, ethylene emission, and enzymatic activities associated with senescence. Unfortunately, peaches are sensitive to low temperatures if exposed for long periods, resulting in physiological disorders that can compromise commercial quality. Maximum damage occurs at 5 °C while at 1 °C damage is reduced. Therefore, rapid early detection methods for the distribution chain to monitor length and temperature of fruit storage are needed. The aim of this work was to iden

Seasonal expression of a dehydrin gene in sibling deciduous and evergreen genotypes of peach (Prunus persica [L.] Batsch).

A cDNA library was created from cold-acclimated bark tissue of peach and selectively probed using an antibody directed against the lysine-rich consensus region of dehydrin proteins. Several clones were thus obtained which had a high degree of sequence similarity to other dehydrin genes. Northern analysis, using clone 5a, indicated that a 1.8 kb transcript was seasonally expressed in sibling deciduous and evergreen genotypes of peach, and also inducible by water deficit in cv. Rio Oso Gem. The evergreen and deciduous genotypes differ significantly in both their ability to cold-acclimate and in

Anti-Obesity Effects of a Prunus persica and Nelumbo nucifera Mixture in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet.

Prunus persica and Nelumbo nucifera are major crops cultivated worldwide. In East Asia, both P. persica flowers and N. nucifera leaves are traditionally used for therapeutic purposes and consumed as teas for weight loss. Herein, we investigated the anti-obesity effects of an herbal extract mixture of P. persica and N. nucifera (HT077) and the underlying mechanism using a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity model. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed a normal diet, HFD, HFD containing 0.02% orlistat (positive control), or HFD containing 0.1, 0.2, or 0.4% HT077 for 12 weeks. HT077 significantly reduced fi

Effects of Foliar Calcium and Magnesium Application on Peach (Prunus persica L.) Nutrition Status and Fruit Quality Formation.

Peach fruit quality-including sweetness, firmness, and nutritional value-is strongly determined by mineral nutrition, yet limited soil availability of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) under production activities often constrains high-quality fruit formation in juicy peach production. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of foliar application of Ca and Mg on leaf nutrient status and fruit quality in peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch). Seven treatments were established, including 0.1% (T1), 0.2% (T2), and 0.3% (T3) CaCl2 solutions, 0.1% (T4), 0.2% (T5), and 0.3% (T6) MgSO4 solutions, and a wate

Mannose-modified Prunus persica kernel protein nanoparticles loading baicalin coated with Lycium barbarum polysaccharide for ulcerative colitis treatment.

Baicalin (Ba) is a promising anti-inflammatory agent for treating ulcerative colitis (UC), but its efficacy is constrained by poor solubility and colon-targeting efficiency. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), an anionic polysaccharide, not only restores gut microbiota dysbiosis but also exhibits excellent upper gastrointestinal stability and biocompatibility, making it a candidate for developing colon-targeted carriers. In this paper, the polymeric nanoparticles (Ba@MP/LBP NPs) were constructed using LBP, mannose, and Prunus persica kernel protein (PKP) for targeted delivery of baicalin to

[The relation between en-dormancy and changes in two main electron transport pathways of nectarine (Prunus persica var. nectariana) buds].

Respiration rate of buds of Prunus persica var. nectariana Maxim. cv. Shuguang and Mayfire was studied during dormancy. The results showed that the bud respiration rate changed with the stage of dormancy for both cultivars. Respiration rate of buds of the controls decreased steadily before dormancy, while increased slowly from November 5th for Shuguang and October 29th for Mayfire, and then decreased sharply on December 17th at which dormancy was terminated. Cyanide (KCN) only partially inhibited respiration rate of dormant buds of nectarine during the whole period, and the trend of the buds r
