Psychological trauma symptom improvement in veterans using emotional freedom techniques: a randomized controlled trial.

This study examined the effect of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), a brief exposure therapy combining cognitive and somatic elements, on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychological distress symptoms in veterans receiving mental health services. Veterans meeting the clinical criteria for PTSD were randomized to EFT (n = 30) or standard of care wait list (SOC/WL; n = 29). The EFT intervention consisted of 6-hour-long EFT coaching sessions concurrent with standard care. The SOC/WL and EFT groups were compared before and after the intervention (at 1 month for the SOC/WL group and aft

Demonstration videos of psychodynamic and systemic techniques in clinical psychology education.

Demonstration videos are an innovative method for teaching approach-specific techniques. This randomised-controlled study examines the impact of approach-specific demonstration videos on students' practical skills. Undergraduate psychology students (N = 123) received approach-specific instructional texts and were then randomised into one of four groups in preparation for a standardised simulation. In two intervention groups (IGs), students watched a video on either psychodynamic or systemic techniques, whereas the control groups (CGs) reviewed the respective instructional text again. Using health psychology techniques to manage chronic physical symptoms.

Chest pain and palpitations, non-malignant pain, breathlessness and fatigue often endure despite the receipt of appropriate nursing and medical care. This is distressing for patients, impacts on their quality of life and ability to function and is associated with high healthcare usage and costs. The cognitive behavioural approach offers nurses a model to understand how people's perceptions and beliefs and their emotional, behavioural and physiological reactions are linked. Common 'thinking errors' which can exacerbate symptom severity and impact are highlighted. Understanding of this model may

Theoretical and clinical insights into the psychological mechanisms and active ingredients of emotional freedom techniques.

Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an integrative mind-body therapy increasingly utilized for trauma and stress-related conditions. This article is a theoretical proposal rather than a systematic review; its purpose is to synthesize existing evidence and clinical insights to outline a conceptual framework of active ingredients and mechanisms underlying EFT's therapeutic efficacy. Active ingredients include acupoint stimulation, exposure within the window of tolerance, integration of self-compassion and acceptance, leveraging demand characteristics and positive expectancy, shifting

Psychological Therapies and Mind-Body Techniques in the Management of Dermatologic Diseases: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: There is a clear link between skin disease and psychological factors and this relationship works both ways: skin diseases can cause psychological distress and psychological issues can worsen skin disease. There are a number of therapies that approach this problem from the psychological side and may be useful, especially as adjunctive therapies in select patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to determine the efficacy of various psychological therapies and mind-body techniques in the management of common dermatologic diseases in individuals of all ages. METHODS: A systema

Absence of digital intervention: exploring the motivations behind self-harm adolescents' avoidance of psychological support techniques.

BACKGROUND: From the perspective of behavioural psychology and adolescent psychopathology, non-suicidal self-harm (NSSI) among adolescents is a multidetermined behaviour shaped by biological, psychological and social factors. Digital mental health interventions are vital for adolescent self-harm support, yet their acceptance among self-harming adolescents is low with significant avoidance tendencies. Existing research focuses on technical attributes of these tools but rarely explores the psychological motivations and contextual factors driving avoidance in this group, and few studies interpret

Associations of Pain, Analgesia Technique, and Psychological Factors with Central Sensitization after Childbirth.

BACKGROUND: Central sensitization may contribute to persistent postpartum pain, but the factors associated with the pain outcome are poorly understood. We identified independent associated factors with elevated CSI scores at 6-10 weeks postpartum. METHODS: Pregnant women admitted for delivery were asked to complete pre-delivery questionnaires evaluating pain and psychological vulnerabilities. Data on labor pain intensity, obstetric interventions, and neonatal outcomes were collected. An online survey was conducted at 6-10 weeks postpartum to assess elevated CSI scores, defined a priori as a C

Clinical emotional freedom techniques for psychological and physiological stress reduction: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Stress is a major global public health concern with well-established psychological and physiological impacts. Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a manualised, evidence-based intervention integrating cognitive and exposure components with acupoint stimulation. Although randomized controlled trials (RCTs) support its efficacy, no prior meta-analysis has synthesised its effects across both psychological and biological stress outcomes. This study conducted a systematic review and frequentist network meta-analysis (NMA) in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. RCTs examining Clinical EFT f

User Experiences of Behavioral and Psychological Change Techniques in a Walking-Based Mobile Exergame: Cross-Sectional Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity plays a central role in the course and progression of chronic conditions in older adults. However, individuals within this population tend to have an inactive lifestyle. Exergaming, which is defined as the integration of physical activity with game-based elements, offers a promising approach to promote physical activity in individuals with chronic conditions. Despite its potential, limited evidence exists on how specific game elements influence behavioral and psychological outcomes in this population. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to explore the behavioral

The effect of cranial techniques on the heart rate variability response to psychological stress test in firefighter cadets.

Heart rate variability (HRV) is a simple tool to monitor cardiovascular stress. The proper function of the cardiovascular system is a problem among firefighters. Physical activity has health benefits correlated with psychological stress. Physically active people should be more resilient to psychological stress, but this has not always been demonstrated. The aim of this study was to determine whether cranial techniques would have an effect on HRV parameters. Osteopathy in the cranium reduces stress and improves cardiovascular function. Fifty-seven firefighter cadets aged 18-24 years (21.63 ± 1.
