A 57-year-old woman with a solitary nodule in the left lung underwent a wedge resection, which resulted in total removal of the tumor. Pathological examination confirmed it to be a pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma. The patient did not receive any postoperative adjuvant therapies. Ten years later, a nodule reappeared at the same site and another wedge resection was performed. Pathological examination once again confirmed the diagnosis of sclerosing hemangioma. However, the recurrence of pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma is very rare; thus, we report here on one clinical case in detail.

Pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH) is a rare benign tumor of the lungs. These tumors are composed of cuboidal surface cells and polygonal stromal cells and show four histological manifestations: hemorrhagic, papillary, solid, and sclerotic. PSH predominantly affects asymptomatic middle-aged women. The tumor often occurs at the intralobar site, and less commonly in the bronchus and mediastinum. PSH is easy to be misdiagnosed preoperatively. In this study, we present in detail the treatment procedures followed for two atypical cases of PSH. Case 1 was a 62-year-old woman bearing a tumor for 1…

Pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma is an uncommon tumor, thought to be a benign neoplasm. Pericardial cysts are also uncommon benign abnormalities, most often found incidentally on chest radiography. We describe the case of a 51-year-old woman in whom both lesions were incidentially detected on a routine chest radiograph. Enucleation of the pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma and simultaneous resection of the pericardial cyst were undertaken.

A 67-year-old woman was referred to our department for further evaluation of her abnormal, chest radiogram. Thorax computed tomography revealed a well-circumscribed, round mass in the middle lobe of the right lung. A thoracotomy was performed and pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma was diagnosed. We herein present a rare tumor of the lung.

Pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma is relatively rare and is usually considered a benign tumor. There have been no reports of pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma with pleural dissemination. This report presents an extremely rare case of pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma with pulmonary dissemination. A 57-year-old woman was found to have an abnormal shadow in the right lower lung field on chest X-ray. Chest computed tomography (CT) indicated a 2.5-cm mass in the right lower lobe. A bronchoscopic biopsy failed to identify malignant cells, which led to the patient undergoing an excisional lung biopsy. Int…

A 49-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because abnormal masses had been found in the left lung on chest radiography. This examination and CT scanning on admission both revealed a 12 x 8 mm mass in the left S5 and a 31 x 25 mm mass in the left S8. Calcification was not found in the tumors. Bronchoscopy showed narrowing of the left B5 and B8 bronchi by irregularity of the mucous membrane. No malignant cells were found in the cytological specimens, which were obtained by brushing and washing of the bronchi. Although the radiological findings suggested benign tumors, surgical resection w

BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is often a type 2-driven inflammatory disease that markedly impairs quality of life. Dupilumab offers major therapeutic benefit but at high cost, underscoring the need for accurate patient selection. EPOS2020 introduced indication criteria for biologic therapy, yet their real-world predictive validity remains underexplored.
METHODS: This study screened 224 CRSwNP patients treated with dupilumab between November 2019 and May 2025. Outcomes included Total Polyp Score (TPS), 22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22), olfactory performa

Pulmonary sclerosing hemangiomas (PSH) of the lung are uncommon tumors and may present cytological atypia with unusual manifestations. The development of PSH combined with other different tumors in lung is extremely rare. We report a case of coexistence of PSH and primary adenocarcinoma in a young female occurring in the same pulmonary nodular mass of right lower lobe. The solitary mass of lung was well-circumscribed on chest computed tomography (CT) and gross examination. Histologically, the mass contained two separated portions and displayed typically histological features of PSH and acinar …

UNLABELLED: Pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH) is an uncommon pulmonary tumor. Histologically, PSH typically consists of two types of cells, surface cuboidal cells and polygonal cells, four architectural patterns including papillary, sclerotic, solid, and hemorrhagic. Herein, we present a case of PSH in a 59-year-old Chinese female. The tumor was predominantly composed of solid area presenting with diffuse spindle cells rather than polygonal cells. Focally, classical papillary and sclerotic area could be seen. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the spindle cells were positive for TTF-…

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH) is a rare tumor that usually develops in middle-aged Asian women. PSH has four histological types (hemorrhagic, sclerotic, solid, and papillary) and often grows slowly in a lower lobe of the lung. Preoperative misdiagnosis frequently occurs because of the absence of specific clinical manifestations and imaging findings. Few reports have described PSH in women of advanced age. Case presentation: A 75-year-old woman presented to our hospital in China with a 5-day history of productive cough and intermittent hemoptysis. Computed tomography indicat…

Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma is a rare, typically asymptomatic, tumor with potential for malignant transformation. Diagnosis is frequently difficult due to its rarity and proclivity to mimic other pathologies. Here, we describe a particularly challenging case of a patient with a personal and familial history of other malignancies who presented with an incidental lung nodule, found to be pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma on pathologic examination after an anatomic lung resection. We conclude with a review of the natural history, clinical and histopathological presentation, and management o

A case of "sclerosing hemangioma" (pneumocytoma) of the lung with lymph node metastasis is reported. A 22-year-old Japanese man was found to have a well-defined round lesion in the right lung (S7), which increased in size slightly during a 2-year follow-up period. He underwent right lower lobectomy with a preoperative diagnosis of a benign lung tumor. The pulmonary tumor revealed histological features characteristic of "sclerosing hemangioma" of the lung, in addition to which there were many large polygonal foamy cells, forming tubular or papillary structures. These cells were found by electro

Sclerosing hemangioma is a rare pulmonary tumor that usually grows as a peripheral intraparenchymal lesion in the lungs. Although some case series have described this rare tumor, endobronchial growth of sclerosing hemangioma is extremely rare, with only 3 reported cases in the literature to date. We describe a patient who presented with respiratory arrest secondary to bilateral mechanical airway obstruction caused by this tumor. Such a presentation has never been described in the literature before and, as such, proved to be a challenging diagnosis.

Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma, formally named pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma, is a rare benign tumor with malignant potential often identified as solid pulmonary nodules. Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory, multisystemic disease of unknown cause with a wide range of clinical manifestations. The disorder is characterized by the formation of noncaseating granulomas in virtually any organ in the body. We present a case of a patient presenting with fever, weight loss, and respiratory symptoms found to have both a sclerosing pneumocytoma and pulmonary sarcoidosis. A diagnosis was made following th…

Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) was first reported by Liebow and Hubbell (1956). It was initially called pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH) because it was thought to be derived from endothelial cells with rich vascularity. However, the 2015 World Health Organization Classification of Lung Tumors removed the term "sclerosing hemangioma," since these tumors lack vascular origin (Travis et al., 2015), and the renamed tumor was considered a rare and benign lung tumor. However, several reports have described PSP with lymph node metastasis (Soo et al., 2017). Thus, PSP is not always benig…

This study presents a first case of multiple peripheral typical carcinoid tumors associated with sclerosing hemangiomas in the lung. A 52-year-old male presented with incidentally detected multiple pulmonary nodules on a simple chest X-ray during routine health check-up. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest showed multiple nodular lesions in the middle and lower lobes of the right lung. These were initially suspected as inflammatory lesions due to miliary tuberculosis. However, possibility of malignancy could not be excluded and right lower lobe lobectomy was performed. Histopathologic

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP), formerly known as sclerosing hemangioma, is a rare tumor that is typically found incidentally and can closely mimic malignancy on imaging and biopsy, making it challenging to distinguish from lung malignancy.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 67-year-old man presented with an incidental finding of a nodule in the left upper lobe. Chest computed tomography revealed a 2.2-cm, well-circumscribed nodule adjacent to the pulmonary hilum of the upper lobe. Bronchoscopic biopsy suggested adenocarcinoma, and the patient underwent left upper lobectomy with l

RATIONALE: Sclerosing pneumocytoma is a rare benign lung neoplasm seen in middle aged adults with a female predominance. Originally thought to be vascular in origin, this rare entity is now understood to be epithelial in nature. On imaging, sclerosing pneumocytoma manifests as a well circumscribed nodule or mass, often juxtapleural in location. On histopathology, sclerosing pneumocytoma is composed of cuboidal "surface cells" and round "stromal cells," both of which show nuclear staining for thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1). Here we review the existing literature on sclerosing pneumocyto

Vascular anomalies span a wide biological spectrum, from self-involuting infantile hemangiomas to life-threatening arteriovenous malformations. This review focuses on the conditions most commonly managed by interventional radiology, organized within the 2025 International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies classification framework. It covers the principles and agents of sclerotherapy for venous and lymphatic malformations, including comparative evidence for sclerosing agents, and embolization strategies for arteriovenous malformations and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia -related
