Pyrolysis mechanism and pyrolysis kinetics of yellow wine lees.

Yellow wine lees, a by-product produced while brewing yellow wine, can be a helpful biomass resource through pyrolysis. However, there have been very few studies on the pyrolysis of yellow wine lees. The kinetics and mechanism of pyrolysis in yellow wine lees were explored through an extensive study of their chemical and elemental composition. The pyrolysis mechanism of yellow wine lees was further studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) from 30 °C to 900 °C. The TG/DTG analysis showed that yellow wine lees thermally decomposed mainly between 121 °C and 500 °C. The maximum decomposition

Technical benefits of using methane as a pyrolysis medium for catalytic pyrolysis of Kraft lignin.

Catalytic fast pyrolysis of low sulfonated Kraft lignin was performed under different atmospheric environments such as N2, CH4, and the gas derived from CH4 decomposition (CH4-D). The use of Zn- or Mo-loaded HZSM-5 as catalyst led to a higher pyrolytic oil yield compared to parent HZSM-5 in CH4 and CH4-D atmospheres. The yields of benzene, toluene, and xylenes were increased by the synergistic effects from metal loading, higher H/Ceff ratio, higher acidity, and CH4 activation. The enhanced CH4 activation via metal loading resulted in higher methylation of alkyl moieties and 33% increase in the

In-situ pyrolysis kinetic analysis and fixed-bed pyrolysis behavior of ex-service wind turbine blades.

After the peak of rapid wind power development, a large amount of wind turbine blades reach/exceed their service life due to aging or damage. These ex-service wind turbine blades (EWTB) will increase the issue of its high-efficient utilization in the future decades. Among several treatment methods, pyrolysis has been considered as a promising solution to separate inorganic fiberglass and make organic epoxy resin (OER) high-value-added converted. However, the pyrolysis mechanism, chemical composition, and fiberglass separation of EWTB have not been deeply studied. In this paper, the synthetic m

Pyrolysis Treatment of Chromite Ore Processing Residue by Biomass: Cellulose Pyrolysis and Cr(VI) Reduction Behavior.

The pyrolysis treatment with biomass is a promising technology for the remediation of chromite-ore-processing residue (COPR). However, the mechanism of this process is still unclear. In this study, the behavior of pyrolysis reduction of Cr(VI) by cellulose, the main component of biomass, was elucidated. The results showed that the volatile fraction (VF) of cellulose, ie. gas and tar, was responsible for Cr(VI) reduction. All organic compounds, as well as CO and H2 in VF, potentially reduced Cr(VI). X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine-str

Pyrolysis Reactions of (2-Chloroethyl)benzene.

Pyrolysis of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is considered an alternative to traditional, mechanical methods of recycling. However, there is insufficient research conducted on the thermal decomposition pathways of PVC, particularly the fate of chlorinated hydrocarbons generated during the chemical recycling process. One significant product from the pyrolysis of PVC is (2-chloroethyl)benzene. Using a hyperthermal tubular reactor and matrix-isolation FTIR techniques, the pyrolysis products of gas-phase (2-chloroethyl)benzene were identified. Following pyrolysis at 1400 K, the FTIR spectra indicated the

Low Molecular Weight Biobased Aromatics from Pyrolysis Liquids Using Zeolites: Yield Improvements by Using Pyrolysis Oil Fractions.

Pyrolysis liquids from lignocellulosic biomass have the potential to be used as a feed for aromatics such as benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX) using catalytic upgrading with zeolites. We here report an experimental study on the conversion of various pyrolysis oil fractions to determine the most suitable one for BTX synthesis. For this purpose, the pyrolysis liquid was fractionated using several extraction/distillation steps to give four fractions with different chemical compositions. The fractions were analyzed in detail using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, elemental analysis, gas

Flash flow pyrolysis: mimicking flash vacuum pyrolysis in a high-temperature/high-pressure liquid-phase microreactor environment.

Flash vacuum pyrolysis (FVP) is a gas-phase continuous-flow technique where a substrate is sublimed through a hot quartz tube under high vacuum at temperatures of 400-1100 °C. Thermal activation occurs mainly by molecule-wall collisions with contact times in the region of milliseconds. As a preparative method, FVP is used mainly to induce intramolecular high-temperature transformations leading to products that cannot easily be obtained by other methods. It is demonstrated herein that liquid-phase high-temperature/high-pressure (high-T/p) microreactor conditions (160-350 °C, 90-180 bar) employi

Cyclopentene and cyclopentadiene formation in isoprene pyrolysis.

Photoion mass-selected threshold photoelectron spectroscopy (ms-TPES) was used to identify the isoprene pyrolysis products in a SiC microreactor at 1400 °C with the help of literature and Franck-Condon simulated reference spectra for molecular species at the detected m/z ratios. The key observation is the presence of equimolar amounts of isoprene and cyclopentene at the pyrolysis temperature based on the m/z 68 ms-TPES, indicating kinetically allowed isoprene isomerization concurrently with fragmentation reactions. This isomerization was computationally explored and was found to take place via

Pyrolysis of drugs of abuse: a comprehensive review.

This review summarizes the literature to date relating to pyrolysis and heated vapour ingestion of drugs of abuse. In this context, heating is referred to as smoking or pyrolysis, but these are generic descriptors that encompass numerous methods of vapour generation and inhalation. Depending on the amount of drug used, diluents and contaminants present, heating conditions, and the oxidative/reductive environment, many thermal decomposition products can be formed. In addition to the recognized hazard of rapid onset of pharmacological effects of the parent drug, thermal decomposition products ma

Analysis of Pyrolysis Characteristics of Oily Sludge in Different Regions and Environmental Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Pyrolysis Residue.

As a resource treatment method, pyrolysis realizes the recovery of oil and immobilization of heavy metals in oily sludge (OS). The results showed that the composition of OS had little effect on the trend of the whole pyrolysis process, but it had different effects on the mass loss and maximum weight loss rate at each pyrolysis stage. SEM-EDS results showed that the pyrolysis residue had a porous internal structure, which was similar to that of activated carbon. The elements S, Ca, O, Fe, Al, and Si were embedded in the carbon skeleton. After OS pyrolysis, the oil content of the solid residue w

Characteristics of heavy metal migration during pyrolysis of typical oily wastes and environmental risk assessment of pyrolysis residues.

Solid-phase residues from pyrolysis of oily wastes (OS) are widely used due to their rich pore structure and strong adsorption capacity. In this study, pyrolysis residues (OS-P) were obtained from the pyrolysis treatment of four typical OS in Karamay, Xinjiang. The results indicate that the crystalline substances in OS-P mainly were SiO2, BaSO4, and graphite. The heavy metals of OS-P were higher than that of OS in the following order: Zn > Cu > Ni > Cr > Pb > Cd. The results of the improvement of Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) sequential extraction showed that the proportion of Cu, Ni and

Valorization of slow pyrolysis vapor from biomass waste: Comparative study on pyrolysis characteristics, evolved gas evaluation, and adsorption effects.

Pyrolysis vapor is an important byproduct in the production of biochar from biomass waste, and its emission may pose potential environmental risks. To achieve green production of biochar and efficient utilization of pyrolysis vapors, a novel strategy is proposed in this study to use pristine biochar as an adsorbent to adsorb the pyrolysis vapors. According to thermogravimetry-Fourier infrared spectroscopy-mass spectrometry evaluation, the evolved vapors mainly consisted of oxygenated compounds, hydrocarbons, CO2, CO, and H2O. With pyrolysis temperature increasing, ethers, phenols, hydrocarbons
