Heterogeneous oblique double random forest.

The decision tree ensembles use a single data feature at each node for splitting the data. However, splitting in this manner may fail to capture the geometric properties of the data. Thus, oblique decision trees generate the oblique hyperplane for splitting the data at each non-leaf node. Oblique decision trees capture the geometric properties of the data and hence show better generalization. The performance of the oblique decision trees depends on the way oblique hyperplanes are generated and the data used for the generation of those hyperplanes. Recently, multiple classifiers have been used

Outcome Risk Modeling for Disability-Free Longevity: Comparison of Random Forest and Random Survival Forest Methods.

BACKGROUND: When creating risk prediction models for time-to-event data, methods that incorporate time are typically used. Random survival forests (RSF), an extension of random forests (RF), are one such class of models. We compared RSF to RF in the context of time-to-event outcomes in the ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) randomized controlled trial. We hypothesize that RSF will have superior discrimination and calibration versus RF. METHODS: Participants from ASPREE residing outside the US or with missing data were excluded. A total of 2,291 participants were assigned 1:1 i

CLASV: Rapid Lassa virus lineage assignment with random forest.

Lassa fever, caused by the Lassa virus (LASV), is a deadly disease characterized by hemorrhages. Annually, it affects approximately 300,000 people in West Africa and causes about 5,000 deaths. It currently has no approved vaccine and is categorized as a top-priority disease. Apart from its endemicity to West Africa, there have been exported cases in almost all continents, including several European countries. Distinct Lassa virus lineages circulate in specific regions, and have been reported to show varying immunological behaviors and may contribute to differing disease outcomes. It is therefo

Random Forest Model Predictions Afford Dual-Stage Antimalarial Agents.

The need for novel antimalarials is apparent given the continuing disease burden worldwide, despite significant drug discovery advances from the bench to the bedside. In particular, small-molecule agents with potent efficacy against both the liver and blood stages of Plasmodium parasite infection are critical for clinical settings as they would simultaneously prevent and treat malaria with a reduced selection pressure for resistance. While experimental screens for such dual-stage inhibitors have been conducted, the time and cost of these efforts limit their scope. Here, we have focused on leve

ECG-based Random Forest Classifier for Cardiac Arrest Rhythms.

Rhythm annotation of out-of-hospital cardiac episodes (OHCA) is key for a better understanding of the interplay between resuscitation therapy and OHCA patient outcome. OHCA rhythms are classified in five categories, asystole (AS), pulseless electrical activity (PEA), pulsed rhythms (PR), ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). Manual OHCA annotation by expert clinicians is onerous and time consuming, so there is a need for accurate and automatic OHCA rhythm annotation methods. For this study 852 OHCA episodes of patients treated with Automated External Defibrillators (A

Identification of Nine mRNA Signatures for Sepsis Using Random Forest.

Sepsis has high fatality rates. Early diagnosis could increase its curating rates. There were no reliable molecular biomarkers to distinguish between infected and uninfected patients currently, which limit the treatment of sepsis. To this end, we analyzed gene expression datasets from the GEO database to identify its mRNA signature. First, two gene expression datasets (GSE154918 and GSE131761) were downloaded to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using Limma package. Totally 384 common DEGs were found in three contrast groups. We found that as the condition worsens, more genes

An integrative multiomics random forest framework for robust biomarker discovery.

BACKGROUND: High-throughput technologies now produce a wide array of omics data, from genomic and transcriptomic profiles to epigenomic and proteomic measurements. Integrating multiple omics layers measured on the same samples can reveal cross-layer molecular hubs that single-layer analyses miss. However, many existing integrative methods rely on linear assumptions or univariate feature importance, limiting their ability to capture nonlinear and interaction-driven dependencies across data modalities. RESULTS: We present an unsupervised, multivariate random forest (MRF) framework with an inver

[Ozone Sensitivity Analysis in Urban Beijing Based on Random Forest].

The basis and key step to developing ozone (O3) prevention and control measures is determining the non-linear relationship between O3 and its precursors. Based on online observations of O3, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and meteorological elements from April to September 2020 at an urban site in Beijing, we analyzed the pollution characteristics of O3 and its precursors, explored key factors affecting O3 using the random forest (RF) model combined with SHAP values, and explored the O3-VOCs-NOx sensitivity through a multi-scenarios analysis. The results of correlatio

Leptospirosis modelling using hydrometeorological indices and random forest machine learning.

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis that has been linked to hydrometeorological variability. Hydrometeorological averages and extremes have been used before as drivers in the statistical prediction of disease. However, their importance and predictive capacity are still little known. In this study, the use of a random forest classifier was explored to analyze the relative importance of hydrometeorological indices in developing the leptospirosis model and to evaluate the performance of models based on the type of indices used, using case data from three districts in Kelantan, Malaysia, that experience a

MethRaFo: MeDIP-seq methylation estimate using a Random Forest Regressor.

MOTIVATION: Profiling of genome wide DNA methylation is now routinely performed when studying development, cancer and several other biological processes. Although Whole genome Bisulfite Sequencing provides high-quality methylation measurements at the resolution of nucleotides, it is relatively costly and so several studies have used alternative methods for such profiling. One of the most widely used low cost alternatives is MeDIP-Seq. However, MeDIP-Seq is biased for CpG enriched regions and thus its results need to be corrected in order to determine accurate methylation levels. RESULTS: Here
