A beta way: A tutorial on Bayesian beta regression for psychological research.

Rates, percentages, and proportions are common outcomes in psychology and the social sciences. These outcomes are often analyzed using models that assume normality, but this practice overlooks important features of the data, such as their natural bounds at 0 and 1. As a result, estimates can become distorted. In contrast, treating such outcomes as beta-distributed respects these limits and can yield more accurate estimates. Despite these advantages, the use of beta models in applied research remains limited. Our goal is to provide researchers with practical guidance for adopting beta regressio

Effectiveness of psychological interventions in preventing recurrence of depressive disorder: meta-analysis and meta-regression.

BACKGROUND: Major depression is probably best seen as a chronically recurrent disorder, with patients experiencing another depressive episode after remission. Therefore, attention to reduce the risk of relapse or recurrence after remission is warranted. The aim of this review is to meta-analytically examine the effectiveness of psychological interventions to reduce relapse or recurrence rates of depressive disorder. METHODS: We systematically reviewed the pertinent trial literature until May 2014. The random-effects model was used to compute the pooled relative risk of relapse or recurrence (

The effect of psychological treatment on repetitive negative thinking in youth depression and anxiety: a meta-analysis and meta-regression.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety are prevalent in youth populations and typically emerge during adolescence. Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is a putative transdiagnostic mechanism with consistent associations with depression and anxiety. Targeting transdiagnostic processes like RNT for youth depression and anxiety may offer more targeted, personalised and effective treatment. METHODS: A meta-analysis was conducted to examine the effect of psychological treatments on RNT, depression and anxiety symptoms in young people with depression or anxiety, and a meta-regression to examine relation

Psychological predictors of sport dropout in adolescents: a latent profile analysis of risk profiles and R3STEP auxiliary regression.

Understanding why adolescents discontinue organized sport is central to sustaining the physical and mental health benefits of sport participation. Most research has examined psychological correlates of dropout one variable at a time, yet burnout, amotivation, and competitive anxiety may co-occur in meaningful configurations. This study applied a person-centered latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify psychological risk profiles among adolescent athletes and used the R3STEP three-step approach to examine whether dropout status was associated with baseline profile membership over a 12-month fo

Predicting Psychological Flourishing Among Psychologists: Integrating Self-Compassion, Traditional Regression, and Machine Learning Approaches.

Background: Psychological flourishing is a key indicator of optimal mental health and professional well-being, particularly among psychologists who are routinely exposed to emotionally demanding clinical environments. Although self-compassion has consistently been associated with positive psychological outcomes, few studies have integrated traditional statistical methods with machine learning approaches to predict psychological flourishing among psychologists. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-compassion and psychological flourishing among psychologists in Sa

What determines violent behavior in men? Predicting physical, psychological, and sexual violent offending based on classification and regression tree analysis.

Despite compelling evidence that victimization and offending co-occur, it remains unclear what types of victimization are linked to specific forms of perpetration. Here we examined the relationship between physical, psychological, and sexual violence with respect to influencing variables including mental health, risk-taking behaviors, and coping strategies. Data from 5385 men were collected as part of an epidemiological study on violence experience. A classification and regression tree analysis identified the main predictors of violence perpetration and classified violent offending into high-

Four Decades of Psychological Treatment for Bulimia Nervosa and Binge-Eating Disorder: A Meta-Regression of Changes in Abstinence Rates Over Time.

OBJECTIVE: Earlier meta-analyses showing low rates of abstinence in treatments for bulimia nervosa (BN) and binge-eating disorder (BED) have spurred growing efforts to improve outcomes. In response, numerous trials have tested augmented, novel, or streamlined treatment protocols. However, it remains unclear whether these efforts have translated into improvements in meaningful abstinence outcomes. This meta-analysis provided updated estimates of abstinence and examined whether rates have changed over time. METHOD: Trials of psychological treatments for BN and BED that reported abstinence rates
