[Left ventricular relaxation property evaluated by isovolumic relaxation flow].

The blood flow recorded in the center of the left ventricle (LV) during the isovolumic relaxation period, i.e., isovolumic relaxation flow (IRF), was evaluated by pulsed Doppler echocardiography. The subjects consisted of 17 normal persons, 12 patients with angina pectoris (AP), 63 with old myocardial infarction (OMI), 16 with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and 16 with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). In the normal subjects, the IRF showed a laminar flow and it was directed from the center of the LV toward the apex. The maximum velocity of the IRF coincided with the second heart sound. In the

Alchemical geometry relaxation.

We propose the relaxation of geometries throughout chemical compound space using alchemical perturbation density functional theory (APDFT). APDFT refers to perturbation theory involving changes in nuclear charges within approximate solutions to Schrödinger's equation. We give an analytical formula to calculate the mixed second order energy derivatives with respect to both nuclear charges and nuclear positions (named "alchemical force") within the restricted Hartree-Fock case. We have implemented and studied the formula for its use in geometry relaxation of various reference and target molecule

Adaptive relaxation labeling.

Current implementation of probabilistic relaxation labeling (PRL) is based on stationary compatibility coefficients (SCC's). Such labeling frequently diverges from an achieved minimum labeling error. In this correspondence it is shown that by having nonstationary compatibility coefficients (NSCC's) the PRL stabilizes about the minimum error which is obtained during the early iterations. Also, a noniterative labeling algorithm which uses NSCC and has a performance similar to that of the modified PRL is suggested.

Panic attacks during relaxation and relaxation-induced anxiety: a hyperventilation interpretation.

This paper explains how a hyperventilation theory of panic disorder accounts for panic attacks during relaxation and relaxation-induced anxiety. The explanation is based on the observation that chronic hyperventilators maintain a steady state of low pCO2 (arterial carbon dioxide tension) and are, therefore, sensitive to relatively small increases in ventilation when metabolism is low and to relatively sudden reductions in metabolism when ventilation is relatively constant. Thus, if minute volume of air breathed remains constant while the metabolic production of CO2 decreases, as in the case of

Isovolumic relaxation flow propagation velocity in patients with diseases impairing ventricular relaxation.

To evaluate the propagation velocity of isovolumic relaxation flow within the left ventricle (IRFPV) associated with impaired ventricular relaxation, 49 patients with diseases known to impair ventricular relaxation (disease group) and 38 age-matched control subjects (control group) were studied. IRFPV was measured as the slope of the first aliasing velocity line segment of the isovolumic relaxation flow wave front in the color M-mode Doppler echocardiogram. Compared with the control group, the disease group had thicker interventricular septum and left ventricular posterior wall, more left vent

Progressive Relaxation Behavior and Relaxation Dynamics of sPS Gels upon Controlled Heating.

Progressive relaxation behavior of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) chains in sPS gel was detected in the course of melting via the application of intrinsic fluorescence and fluorescence anisotropy techniques. The melting process included a dissociative process of the network at lower temperature and a relaxation process from helix to worm-like chains at higher temperature. The dynamics of structural relaxation behavior was discovered by intrinsic fluorescence technique, and an abrupt bend emerged at 58 °C on the Arrhenius plot. At temperatures lower than 58 °C, only the dissociation of the heli

Muscle relaxants.

Studies on the toxic effects of muscle relaxants are difficult to design because of the need for mechanical ventilation and, consequently, concomitant administration of anaesthetic drugs which may influence the results. The following overview shows that muscle relaxants are weak toxic agents with regard to their teratogenicity, carcinogenicity and cytotoxic effects (including tissue- and organ-damaging effects). Moreover, this chapter presents other side-effects of muscle relaxants under the broad heading of toxicity: the succinylcholine-triggered cytotoxic effects on skeletal muscle cells wit

Palatal relaxing incisions versus nasopharyngeal relaxing incisions in Palatoplasty.

BACKGROUND: Bone denudation after conventional relaxing incisions could be a critical factor in inhibiting maxillofacial growth. To address this, alternative relaxing incisions were designed. Thus, this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of palatal relaxing incisions versus nasopharyngeal relaxing incisions in enhancing postoperative outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, involving a total of 120 patients divided into three groups: 40 patients have received modified Furlow palatoplasty with nasopharyngeal relaxing incisions (M.F + N.P.I palatoplasty

Myocardial contraction-relaxation coupling.

Since the pioneering work of Henry Pickering Bowditch in the late 1800s to early 1900s, cardiac muscle contraction has remained an intensely studied topic for several reasons. The heart is located centrally in our body, and its pumping motion demands the attention of the observer. The contraction of the heart encompasses a complex interplay of mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties, and its function can thus be studied from any of these viewpoints. In addition, diseases of the heart are currently killing more people in the Westernized world than any other disease. When combined with t

[Muscle relaxation 2026-50 years of searching for the ideal relaxant].

Since its clinical introduction, muscle relaxation has been one of the most specific topics in anesthesiology, due to the clear interaction between physiology and pharmacology and the immediately apparent effects.Beyond the classical indications in anesthesia for securing the airway, many modern surgical procedures and interventions would not be possible without the development of muscle relaxation; however, warnings about the associated risks and complications have also been issued for decades.Following the expiration of the patent protection of sugammadex in summer 2023, its specific effects

Are clinically recommended pelvic floor muscle relaxation positions really efficient for muscle relaxation?

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Various positions for pelvic floor muscle (PFM) relaxation are recommended during PFM training in physiotherapy clinics. To our knowledge, there is no study addressing the most effective position for PFM and abdominal muscle relaxation. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the effect of different relaxation positions on PFM and abdominal muscle functions in women with urinary incontinence (UI). METHODS: Sixty-seven women diagnosed with UI were enrolled in the study. The type, frequency, and amount of UI were assessed with the International Incontinenc

Decoherence and Relaxation of Vibrational Motion in Ultrafast Electronic Relaxation of Pyrazine in Solution.

We employed extreme-ultraviolet time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate the decoherence and relaxation of vibrational motion of pyrazine in aqueous and ethanol solutions. Pyrazine has well-characterized vibronic interactions between the 1B2u (ππ*) and 1B3u (nπ*) states, while recent theoretical and experimental studies have revealed that the 1Au (nπ*) state also participates in the dynamics, inspiring strong interest in electronic and vibrational coherence involving both the 1B3u and 1Au states. Our results indicate that vibrational coherence in water and ethanol persists for a

To Relax or Not to Relax for Anxious Youth? Findings from a Survey of Exposure Specialists.

BACKGROUND: Relaxation is a commonly used, albeit controversial, therapy technique to support anxious youth. Increasingly, clinical trial data suggest little added benefit, and potentially a contraindication, for the use of relaxation strategies for pediatric anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders above and beyond that of exposure therapy. However, many clinicians, even those with substantial experience delivering exposure therapy, will at times incorporate relaxation into their treatment. How and when it is best to do so remains poorly articulated in the clinical trial literature. Delinea

Uterine relaxant effect of zolpidem: a comparison with other smooth muscle relaxants.

Zolpidem is an imidazopyridine sedative-hypnotic which interacts with central benzodiazepine-receptors. To examine its effects on uterine smooth muscle we have compared with those obtained by diltiazem, papaverine and diazepam on different experimental models. The IC50 values obtained indicate similar behaviour of zolpidem and diazepam. They showed more active against the spontaneous contractions and those induced by KCl (60 mM) or by CaCl2 (0.01-10 mM) in Ca(2+)-free depolarizing medium than against acetylcholine (0.1 mM)-induced contractions. Both of them also showed more effectiveness again

Relaxation during the INEPT experiment.

For small molecules in isotropic liquid relaxation typically has little impact on the efficiency of coherent polarization transfer. However, in the presence of sources that induce rapid nuclear relaxation, it can become significant, leading to nuclear enhancements far from theoretical maximum. Examples of such sources include paramagnetic metals and organic radicals used in dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) experiments. Here, we examined the role of relaxation in the classical refocused insensitive nuclei enhanced by polarization transfer (INEPT) experiment, in the presence of stable organic

[Diaphragmatic relaxation masquerading as COPD].

Diaphragmatic palsy is a rare condition that often mimics the clinical presentation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Misdiagnosis leads to prolonged and ineffective use of bronchodilator therapy and oxygen support, which do not influence disease outcomes. This paper presents a clinical case of a patient with post-traumatic relaxation of the left hemidiaphragm who had been treated according to COPD management standards without clinical improvement. Key diagnostic methods, including ultrasound assessment of diaphragmatic thickness and mobility, computed tomography, and spirometry
