Patient Outcomes Associated With Continuous Remote Patient Monitoring: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for alternative healthcare delivery models, leading to the development of Continuous Remote Patient Monitoring (CRPM). CRPM allows for real-time monitoring of high-risk patients, reducing the burden on hospital resources. The integration of virtual nursing into CRPM has enhanced remote care capabilities, though it has also introduced new challenges related to patient safety and staffing, that is, nurse-to-patient ratios. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to explore the current evidence on virtual nursing using CRPM and identify challeng

Digital transformation of clinical trials with remote patient monitoring solutions.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is becoming increasingly feasible to implement in clinical trials. A framework is presented for developing RPM digital solutions incorporating the needs and perspectives of patients and healthcare professionals, and regulatory requirements/guidance. This framework is illustrated with recent examples of RPM deployments in the context of skin toxicities and stomatitis. Strategies to overcome challenges in the adoption of RPM solutions in clinical trials are discussed.

Closing Hypertension Equity Gaps Through Digitally Inclusive Remote Patient Monitoring.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) has been shown to support adults with treated but uncontrolled hypertension (HTN) outside the clinic setting, yielding significant benefits in the treatment and control of blood pressure (BP). Despite its proven efficacy and recommendation as guideline-concordant care, adoption of RPM is suboptimal, particularly among marginalized populations, who face structural barriers to HTN control. A barrier to equitable adoption among marginalized populations is the lack of digital inclusivity in the design and deployment of RPM. Digitally inclusive tools consider factors

The Next Frontier of Remote Patient Monitoring: Hospital at Home.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) has shown promise in aiding safe and efficient remote care for chronic conditions; however, its use remains more limited within the hospital at home (HaH) model of care despite a significant opportunity to increase patient eligibility, improve safety, and decrease costs. HaH could achieve these goals by further adopting the 3 primary modalities of RPM (ie, vital sign, continuous single-lead electrocardiogram, and fall monitoring). With only 2 in-person vital sign checks required per day, HaH patient eligibility is currently often limited to lower-acuity cases. T

Use of remote monitoring of newly implanted cardioverter-defibrillators: insights from the patient related determinants of ICD remote monitoring (PREDICT RM) study.

BACKGROUND: Current guidelines recommend using remote patient monitoring (RPM) for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, but the patterns of adoption of this technology have not been described. Successful use of RPM depends on (1) the enrollment of the patient into an RPM system and (2) subsequent activation of RPM by the enrolled patient. We examined RPM enrollment and activation rates and the patient, physician, and institutional determinants of RPM use. METHODS AND RESULTS: Information about the use of RPM-capable devices was obtained from the Boston Scientific Corporation ALTITUDE prog
