Robinia pseudoacacia poisoning in two horses: A case report.

This case report describes the poisoning of two mares from the same paddock with Robinia pseudoacacia (Black locust) bark. The poisoning manifested itself by the sudden onset of weakness and fever with transient improvement after the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and fluids. After the initial stabilisation, the mares were left unattended overnight. One of them was found dead in the morning. The surviving mare developed colic and severe encephalopathy and had to be referred to the clinic. Blood tests revealed severe hyperammonaemia. After four days of symptomatic treat

Characterization of the sexual reproductive process in the perennial tree Robinia pseudoacacia.

Sexual reproduction in perennial plants, especially woody species, remains poorly understood, and most studies have focused on annuals such as Arabidopsis thaliana. This gap hinders understanding of perennial reproductive processes and limits tree breeding. Here we characterized the sexual reproductive process of Robinia pseudoacacia, a perennial leguminous tree, and established standardized methods for studying its reproduction. We optimized cytological assays for pollen viability, in vitro germination, and pollen tube dynamics, achieving over 90% pollen viability and germination efficiency w

Altitudinal and slope gradients as key determinants of Robinia pseudoacacia growth.

Robinia pseudoacacia is a major plantation species in northern China, yet quantitative assessments of its growth across topographic gradients remain limited. This study investigated the growth performance of R. pseudoacacia in relation to landform types (plains, hills, low mountains) and key topographic factors (altitude, slope) in Weifang, Shandong Province. Field surveys were conducted across 67 pure‑stand sample plots. One‑way ANOVA revealed that trees on plains had significantly greater mean diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height than those on hills and low mountains. Linear regre

Novel Antioxidant Caffeate Esters of Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) Stem Bark.

Antioxidant profiling of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) stem bark was performed by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay off-line coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DPPH-HPLC-DAD-ESI-QMS). The ethyl acetate, methanol, and n-hexane extracts exhibited similar chemical profiles for the antioxidant amphipathic phenolic compounds; however, the ethyl acetate extract was the richest in them, and n-hexane yielded several compounds in higher ratios. A total of 21 compounds displayed antioxidant activity and wer

Physiological responses of Robinia pseudoacacia L. of different origins to soil nitrogen supply.

Robinia pseudoacacia L. is a widely distributed tree species capable of adapting to different nitrogen (N) supplies in the soil. However, provenance-specific responses of Robinia to different soil N supplies are largely unexplored. To investigate the importance of soil N availability alone for the performance of Robinia, this study examined the physiological responses of five Robinia provenances to different N levels under conditions without exogenous inoculation. The provenances selected for this study originated from four provinces in China with different climates, i.e., Liaoning (LN), Ningx

Transcriptomic and Phenotypic Analyses Reveal the Molecular Mechanism of Dwarfing in Tetraploid Robinia pseudoacacia L.

Polyploid breeding techniques aid in the cultivation of new forestry cultivars, thus expanding the suite of strategies for the improvement of arboreal traits and innovation within the field of forestry. Compared to diploid Robinia pseudoacacia L. (black locust) 'D26-5①' (2×), its dwarfed homologous tetraploid 'D26-5②' (4×) variety has better application prospects in garden vegetation guardrails and urban landscape. However, the molecular mechanism of the generation and growth of this dwarf variety is still unclear. Here, plant growth and development as well as histological differences between

Elevated CO2 affects secondary metabolites in Robinia pseudoacacia L. seedlings in Cd- and Pb-contaminated soils.

Secondary metabolites play important roles in plant interactions with the environment. The co-occurrence of heavy metal contamination of soils and rising atmospheric CO2 has important effects on plant. It is important to explore the ways in which production of plant secondary metabolites is affected by heavy metals under elevated atmospheric CO2. We examined the effects of elevated CO2 on secondary metabolite contents in Robinia pseudoacacia seedlings grown in Cd- and lead (Pb)-contaminated soils. The increase in secondary metabolites was greater under Cd + Pb exposure than under exposure to i

Nitric oxide mitigates cadmium stress by promoting the biosynthesis of cell walls in Robinia pseudoacacia roots.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution is a growing concern worldwide, because it threatens human health through the food chain. Woody plants, such as the pioneer species black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), are widely used in phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soils, but strongly differ in Cd tolerance. Nitric oxide (NO), a highly reactive gas of biogenic and anthropogenic origin, has been shown to protect plants to Cd exposure. We investigated the protective mechanism of NO against Cd toxicity in black locust using physiological, transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches. We studied the correlation betw

H2S-Mediated GH3.1 Persulfidation Regulates IAA Homeostasis to Enhance Nodulation Formation and Nitrogen Fixation in Robinia pseudoacacia.

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), a gaseous signalling molecule, plays a multifaceted role in plant physiology by enhancing adaptability to environmental stresses. However, the regulatory mechanism of symbiotic nitrogen (N) fixation by H2S in indeterminate nodules of woody legumes remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the mechanism by which H2S promotes nodulation and N fixation in the woody legume Robinia pseudoacacia. Exogenous H2S significantly enhanced rhizobium infection, nodule formation and nitrogenase activity, demonstrating its positive role in the symbiotic process. Transcriptomic a

[Effects of root exudates C:N on soil physical and chemical characteristics and soil respiration in Robinia pseudoacacia plantation].

We explored the effects of C:N ratio in root exudates of Robinia pseudoacacia plantations on soil nutrient cycling and microbial activity on the Loess Plateau. We collected in-situ soil from the R. pseudoacacia plantations with essentially identical habitat conditions and growing time of 15, 25, 35, and 45 years. By adding root exudates with different C:N ratios (N only, C:N=10, C:N=50, C:N=100, C only) to the soil and using deionized water as a control, we analyzed the effects of C:N ratio of root exudates on the physicochemical properties of elements such as carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus,

Arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculation enhances Robinia pseudoacacia performance in zinc-contaminated soils via improved nutrient use and stress mitigation.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are recognized for their ability to mitigate the effects of zinc (Zn) stress in plants, though the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, Robinia pseudoacacia seedlings were exposed to varying levels of Zn stress (0, 500, and 1000 mg kg-1) with or without inoculation of Rhizophagus irregularis to explore how AMF symbiosis affects Zn uptake, phosphorus (P) acquisition, abscisic acid (ABA) distribution, and photosynthetic performance. Compared with the control, 500 mg kg-1 Zn reduced shoot and root biomass by 35 % and 28 %, respectively,

Hand-Held Electrostatic Spray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Enables On-Site Metabolomic Analysis of Sophora japonica and Robinia pseudoacacia.

Mass spectrometry plays a key role in agricultural and food chemistry, yet direct ionization of plant samples is complicated by endogenous salts and other matrix components that destabilize conventional direct-current nanoelectrospray ionization (DC-nanoESI). To address this limitation in point-of-need analysis, we developed hand-held electrostatic spray ionization (HESSI), which produces stable ionization from nanoliter sample volumes without direct electrical contact with the solution. Proposal of three novel species of soil bacteria, Variovorax ureilyticus, Variovorax rhizosphaerae, and Variovorax robiniae, in the family Comamonadaceae.

Three novel bacterial strains (UCM-2T, UCM-G28T, and UCM-G35T) were obtained while isolating soil bacteria for the development of antibiotics. Cells of these strains were Gram-negative, non-spore forming, motile by means of a single flagellum, and rod shaped. In all strains, the predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-8 (Q-8). Cells contained C16:0, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c), summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c), and C17:0 cyclo as the major fatty acids, and C10:0 3-OH as the major hydroxy fatty acid. Auxin and Cytokinins-Mediated Regulation of Adventitious Shoot Regeneration via the RpARR12/RpARF19-RpWOX4-RpLBD4 Pathway in Robinia pseudoacacia.

Woody plants are fast-growing and ecologically important, with widespread applications in urban landscaping and ecological restoration. However, limited understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying adventitious shoot regeneration has hindered advances in tissue culture and genetic improvement of woody species. Here, we present a comprehensive framework for elucidating adventitious shoot regeneration in Robinia pseudoacacia. Histological analyses delineated key developmental stages, while RNA-sequencing and hormone profiling highlighted the critical roles of auxin and cytokinins. WGCNA
