Qiancao (Rubia spp.) - a comprehensive metabolomics analysis of the five core species.

INTRODUCTION: Qiancao comprises five closely related species: Rubia cordifolia L., Rubia yunnanensis Diels., Rubia wallichiana Decne., Rubia schumanniana Pritz., and Rubia magna P. G. Xiao. Due to their similar morphological characteristics, alternative species are frequently substituted for R. cordifolia L. in traditional medicine. However, the latest National Pharmacopoeia of China only exclusively recognizes R. cordifolia L. as the official medicinal source. The metabolic differences among these species remain poorly characterized, largely owing to the absence of systematic metabolomic stud

Hydrophilic deep eutectic solvents for bioactive compound extraction from Rubia tinctorum L.

Rubia tinctorum L. roots are a valuable source of anthraquinones and other bioactive phytochemicals. In this study, nine hydrophilic deep eutectic solvents (DESs), based on choline chloride or tetrabutylammonium bromide, were evaluated as green extractants for the selective recovery of bioactive compounds. Their performance was compared with four conventional solvents (acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol-water, and water). Among DESs, choline chloride-lactic acid and choline chloride-malonic acid showed the highest extraction efficiency for gallic acid, caffeine, quercetin, alizarin, and purpurin.
