Evaluation of the hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities of Rubus parvifolius L.

The hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities of the n-butanol extract of Rubus parvifolius L. (RPL), a widely used medicinal plant, were evaluated. Results demonstrated that RPL extract possessed pronounced hepatoprotective effects against carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced hepatic injury in mice, which was at least partially attributed to its strong antioxidant capacity. Treatment with RPL extract markedly attenuated the increases in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels caused by CCl(4) intoxication. It also significantly prevented the decreas

Effect of Rubus idaeus Extracts in Murine Chondrocytes and Explants.

Osteoarthritis is characterized by cartilage loss resulting from the activation of chondrocytes associated with a synovial inflammation. Activated chondrocytes promote an increased secretion of matrix proteases and proinflammatory cytokines leading to cartilage breakdown. Since natural products possess anti-inflammatory properties, we investigated the direct effect of Rubus idaeus extracts (RIE) in chondrocyte metabolism and cartilage loss. The effect of RIE in chondrocyte metabolism was analyzed in murine primary chondrocytes and cartilage explants. We also assessed the contribution of RIE in

Histopathology of Aculeastrum americanum on Rubus idaeus and insights into the chloroplast-pathogen interaction.

INTRODUCTION: Raspberry late leaf rust, caused by Aculeastrum americanum (Farl.) M. Scholler & U. Braun has been reported in several countries. All aerial parts of the plant can be infected, with the primary symptoms of this disease being powdery yellow spots. Lesions reduce leaf gas exchange and lead to early defoliation. Moreover, infected fruits become unmarketable, resulting in severe yield losses. Despite the growing threat of this rust, the histopathology of A. americanum on raspberry remains poorly understood, particularly on Rubus idaeus L., one of the widely cultivated and economicall
