Soy Protein and Safflower-Seed Oil Attenuate Inflammation and Immune Dysfunction in Rats with Hyperuricemia.

A plant-based diet is considered a promising approach for managing hyperuricemia (HUA). This study examined the effects of soy protein and plant-based oils on HUA-induced inflammation and immune dysfunction. Male Wistar rats, induced with HUA using oxonic acid and uric acid (UA), were fed casein or soy protein with palm or safflower oil (2 × 2 factorial design) for 8 weeks. HUA rats had lower serum albumin and T cell percentages in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs) and splenocytes, along with increased leukocyte counts and spleen weights, compared to healthy rats (p < 0.05). Soy protein impro

A targeted reformulation of safflower oil: Enhancing anti-inflammatory potential and market competitiveness through ω3 enrichment.

Safflower seed oil, rich in linoleic acid, has a high ω6/ω3 ratio due to its negligible ω3 content, which is potentially linked to inflammation and metabolic disorders. Despite its recognized health potential, excessive consumption of pure safflower oil can lead to adverse outcomes. To address a possible solution to solve this problem, this study optimized the ω6/ω3 ratio by blending safflower oil with ω3-rich flaxseed oil, and investigated whether the nutritional profile and health benefits of the ω3-supplemented safflower oil could be improved. Results have shown that in high-fat diet-fed mi

Differential effect of walnut oil and safflower oil on the serum cholesterol level and lesion area in the aortic root of apolipoprotein E-deficient mice.

Walnut oil (WO) is a good source of alpha-linolenic acid. We compared the effects of WO and high-linoleic safflower oil (HLSO) on the serum lipid level and atherosclerosis development in male and female apolipoprotein (apo) E-deficient mice. The WO diet resulted in a higher level of serum cholesterol than with HLSO. Female mice fed on the WO diet had a greater lesion area in the aortic root than did those on the HLSO diet. There was no diet-dependent difference in the level of cholesterol and its oxidation products in the abdominal and thoracic aorta. These results suggest that the unpleasant

Postpromotional effects of dietary marine or safflower oils on large bowel or pulmonary implants of CT-26 in mice.

Marine oils containing n-3 fatty acids exhibit variable antineoplastic effects. Diets containing low (11.6% of kcal) or high (46.5% of kcal) levels of marine oils as the exclusive fat source were compared to diets containing identical amounts of safflower oil (n-6) in weanling, male BALB/c ByJ mice. All diets provided approximately 90 kcal/100 g body weight/day, and contained identical quantities of vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. The growth of transplantable colon carcinoma, CT-26, (10(6) cells/animal) implanted, subserosally, into the descending colon via laparotomy, was observed wee

Dietary safflower seed oil supplementation modulates antiviral immunity in specific-pathogen-free chickens infected with fowl adenovirus serotype 8a.

Fowl adenovirus serotype 8a (FAdV-8a) is an important cause of inclusion body hepatitis in chickens, but nutritional strategies for enhancing host resistance remain poorly characterized. This study evaluated whether dietary supplementation with safflower seed oil affected growth performance, viral burden, and immune responses in specific-pathogen-free chickens infected with FAdV-8a. Chickens received a basal diet containing 1% corn oil or the same diet containing 1% safflower seed oil and were inoculated oculonasally with 10⁶ TCID₅₀ of the low-virulence FAdV-8a strain JL/170408 at 21 d of age.

Safflower seed oil high internal phase pickering emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate-gum arabic complexes: Rheological properties and stability.

The stabilization of high internal phase Pickering emulsions (HIPPEs) utilizing biomacromolecules and solid particles as alternatives to surfactants has attracted significant interest from researchers. Therefore, this study investigated the feasibility of whey isolate protein (WPI) and gum arabic (GA) instead of surfactants to stabilize safflower seed oil to prepare O/W HIPPEs. Among the various ratios examined, the WPI:GA ratio of 1:2 demonstrated the smallest particle size of WPI-GA particles, measuring 214.52 ± 7.65 nm. This ratio also exhibited a significant increase in the absolute value

Effect of high-oleic and high-linoleic safflower oils on mammary tumors induced in rats by 7,12-dimethylbenz(alpha)anthracene.

A mutant safflower oil, rich in oleic acid, was used for a critical test of the hypothesis that polyunsaturated fats act as co-carcinogens. Weanling female rats were each given 5 mg of 7,12-dimethylbenz(alpha)anthracene. They were then pair-fed diets containing 20%, by weight, of conventional high-linoleic safflower oil; a mutant high-oleic safflower oil; or coconut oil. Half of each group received supplementary DL-alpha-tocopherol. Tumors were identified by two observers, by palpation. Data on incidence of tumors and on numbers of tumors per affected rat led to similar conclusions. At 16 week

Omics-driven improvement of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) for climate resilience, oil quality, and high-value metabolites under changing environments.

Safflower is an Asteraceae oilseed crop valued for its high-quality unsaturated fatty acids (≈90% oleic and linoleic acids), natural floral pigments, and diverse bioactive compounds. These attributes underpin its applications in functional foods, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial sectors. Safflower inherent tolerance to drought, heat, cold, and salinity positions it as a climate-resilient alternative to more temperature-sensitive oilseeds; however, omics-based research in this crop remains comparatively fragmented. This review consolidates recent advances across major omi

Deep eutectic solvent-based supramolecular solvent for dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction of aflatoxin B1 from safflower oil seeds prior to HPLC.

Many foods and feeds may be contaminated with toxic mycotoxins such as aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). Aflatoxin toxicity can lead to diverse harmful effects such as cancer, liver toxicity, and birth defects. Consequently, it is essential to establish a selective and efficient technique for analyzing AFB1 levels in foods. In the current work, a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method based on a supramolecular solvent was developed for the rapid assessment of aflatoxin B1 levels in safflower seeds via high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection. In this procedure, a
