Extracts of leaves and fruits of Sapindus saponaria L. were orally administered to rats and the parameters of gastric secretion (volume, pH and acidity) were evaluated after pylorus ligature. The inhibitory effect of the extracts on lesions induced by stress was compared to that of cimetidine. The volume and concentration of hydrochloric acid were reduced after oral administration of the extracts. A significant reduction of the lesion index was observed in the acute assays. No significant alteration in body or organ weight was detected in animals treated orally for 30 days with the extracts. T

To enhance the skin permeability and retention of Sapindus saponins, cationic liposomes are fabricated via a thin-film dispersion method followed by electrostatic cross-linking with chitosan. The Franz diffusion cell method is used to evaluate the transdermal performance, while molecular dynamics (MD) simulations (50 ns) are employed to elucidate the self-assembly mechanism and intermolecular interactions. The optimized preparation conditions are determined as Sapindus saponin extract concentration of 15 mg/mL, soybean lecithin dosage of 350 mg, lecithin: stigmasterol mass ratio of 4:1, and hy

Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease (NTDs), endemic in 88 countries that affect more than 12 million people. Current drugs are limited due to their toxicity, development of biological resistance, length of treatment and high cost. Thus, the search for new effective and less toxic treatments is an urgent need. In this study, we report the synthesis of 3 new amide derivatives of hederagenin (22-24) with yields between 70% and 90%, along with 57 other derivatives of hederagenin (1-21, 25-60) carrying different groups at C-28 previously reported by our group, and the results of their in

The aim of this study was to investigate notable biological activities and medical applications of Sapindus mukorossi (S. mukorossi) seed hydrosol in wound healing. In this study, S. mukorossi hydrosol (SMH) was prepared and tested for antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue repair activity. Phytochemical analysis using GC-MS revealed SMH to contain two bioactive components, benzene, 1,3-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl), and 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol (2,4-DTBP). Antibacterial testing showed that SMH powder diluted with water at a ratio of 1:2 (SMH 1:2) reduced S. aureus colony counts by 60% (p < 0.05

Sapindus mukorossi, known as soapberry, is a multipurpose woody species with oil-rich kernels and saponin-rich pulp, and its kernel oil and pulp saponins have important applications in oleochemicals, detergents, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and bioenergy. However, the mechanism by which carbohydrate-derived carbon is differentially allocated to kernel oil biosynthesis and pulp saponin biosynthesis within the same fruit remains unclear. In this study, we integrated morphological, physiological, metabolomic, and transcriptomic analyses to investigate the developmental accumulation patterns of oil

The antifungal activity of an aqueous extract (AE) and the solid fraction of a chloroform-methanol fruit pericarp extract (CME) of Sapindus mukorossi resolved in water was tested for the first time against Venturia inaequalis and Botrytis cinerea-two important fungal pathogens worldwide. In the greenhouse, a CME (1% vol/vol) spray significantly reduced V. inaequalis symptoms and sporulation (99%) on apple seedling leaves (P ≤ 0.05). In field trials, applications of AE (1% vol/vol) reduced the disease severity of B. cinerea on grape, on average, by 63%. Extracts were fractionated by high-perfor

Sapindus delavayi (Franch.) Radlk. is a non-wood tree species of considerable ornamental, ecological, and medicinal value, and its fruits are rich in saponins, with notable cleansing and skin-care properties. However, this tree species is currently facing the dilemma of low fruit yield and unstable fruiting. Fertilization is an effective measure to improve this cultivation situation. Considering the harm of nitrogen fertilizer in soil, we designed four schemes to replace nitrogen fertilizer with organic fertilizers in this study, aiming to obtain the optimal fertilization combination for the g

Remediating crude oil-contaminated sites is vital for environmental recovery. Surfactant based remediation strategies have gained importance in the management of such sites. Combining biogenic surfactant flushing with conventional methods is noted to be effective than using a single approach. Plant-based surfactants, such as saponins from Sapindus mukorossi, are easier to produce than microbial biosurfactants which require stringent control of conditions. However, research on their application in crude oil contaminated site remediation is limited. This study is an exploration of Sapindus mukor
