The occurrence of primary extraosseous Ewing sarcoma (EES) of the central nervous system (CNS) has only rarely been reported in the literature. It is important to distinguish this entity from the more common central primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of brain, since the management of these tumors is different from that of EES. We present the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic features of two cases of EES occurring in the brain. The diagnosis was further confirmed by detection of a rearrangement of the FLI1 and/or EWS gene loci in tumors from both patients using fluorescent in situ hybrid

Adamantinoma-like Ewing sarcoma (ALES) has traditionally been considered a variant of Ewing sarcoma because it generally harbors EWSR1::FLI1 fusions despite showing diffuse positivity for keratins and p40. However, it has become increasingly recognized that different tumors can have identical translocations, including shared fusions between carcinomas and sarcomas, raising questions as to whether ALES might represent a separate entity. Using methylation profiling, we further explored the relationship between Ewing sarcoma and ALES. The archives of multiple institutions were searched for candid

BACKGROUND/AIM: Metastatic Ewing sarcoma (EWS) causes high mortality. Precision medicine can help to mitigate dismal outcomes by targeted and more effective eradication of cancer cells. The aim of the study was to propose a targeted immunoliposome (IL) that has a potential of selectively binding to and destroying EWS cells. EWS expresses CD99 used for diagnostics. If CD99 is used for targeted IL, its payload must be more damaging to EWS than normal cells, which may also express CD99. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors are potential payload candidates, since they may enhance apoptosi

INTRODUCTION: Primary bronchial Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a rare endobronchial tumor.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 65-year-old male presented with six-month history of progressive shortness of breath. Flexible bronchoscopy showed an endobronchial polypoid tumor in the left main stem bronchus about 2 cm from the carina. The tumor was resected by a left bronchial sleeve resection using a right postero-lateral thoracotomy approach. Pathology showed complete tumor resection with negative margins. The morphological and immune-phenotypical features of the resected specimen were compatible with ES. He had an

The authors report the clinical manifestations, pathologic character, management, and prognosis of primary orbital Ewing sarcoma, and review pertinent literature. A 6-year-old boy presented with the complaint of abruptly decreasing visual acuity and right proptosis. Computed tomography scan revealed a mass in the region of the right infratemporal orbit with extension into the infratemporal fossa and masseteric space, and there was erosion of the right lateral orbital wall. An anterior orbitotomy eyelid crease was performed to remove the tumor. The tumor cells were positive in membranous patter

Ewing tumor family consists of Ewing tumor of bone, extraosseous Ewing tumor, primitive neurectodermal tumor and Askin tumor. All of them share genetic abnormality, reciprocal translocation (11; 22) (q24; q12), and originate from the same primordial stem cell. Ewing tumor is the most common form, found in 60% of cases. It is the second primary malignant bone tumor. Localized lesion is found in nearly 80% and metastatic disease in 20% of cases. Patients present mostly due to pain and palpable tumefaction, and pathological fracture as the initial problem develops in long bones. Ewing tumor can d

Primary Ewing sarcoma of the trachea is an exceptionally uncommon malignancy that often presents with non-specific airway symptoms, leading to diagnostic delays. We report a woman in her early 30s with progressive cough, dyspnoea, hoarseness and stridor who was initially mismanaged as having common airway disease. Imaging revealed a near-obstructing tracheal mass, which was successfully excised bronchoscopically. Histopathology examination, immunohistochemistry and fluorescent in situ hybridisation confirmed the diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma with EWSR1 gene rearrangement. The patient was subseque

A 38-year-old male presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain and bulge. He had a history of irritable bowel syndrome for 1 year with complaint of dyspepsia. Physical examination revealed a distended abdomen with a huge palpable mass located in the paraumblical region. Laboratory findings revealed a high white blood cell count with neutrophil predominance. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed a 23-cm, oval-shaped, grossly necrotic, low-attenuation mass with peripherally located dominant vessels. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffusion weighted imaging (DWI)

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a high-grade osseous malignancy that typically occurs between 10 and 20 years of age. Prognosis is poor with a 30% five-year survival in the case of metastatic disease. This case describes a 20-year-old female patient with known lumbar vertebral ES developing a splenic metastasis years after primary treatment. To the best of our knowledge, metastatic spread to the spleen in ES has not been reported before. Teaching point: In patients with a history of Ewing sarcoma, new parenchymal lesions should always prompt consideration of rare metastatic disease, given its profound p

Ewing sarcoma is the second most frequent primary bone tumour of childhood and adolescence. The aim of this report is to describe the imaging, pathology, clinical findings, and treatment of a primary intradural extramedullary Ewing sarcoma with a unique intracranial metastatic component in a pediatric patient. A 14-year-old girl with a history of mood disorders presented to the emergency department with a 3-week history of neck torticollis, cervical pain, paresis, and paresthesia of the upper and lower extremities on the left side. Initially, non-organic causes such as somatization or conversi

Ewing's sarcoma is a malignant neoplasm mainly occurring in the bone, with other locations being exceptional. In the case of primary intracranial presentations, it is essential to rule out metastatic lesions as well as other neuroectodermal tumors that may require different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. We present a 14-year-old patient who consulted for upper eyelid ptosis of left eye associated with a 2-month history of diplopia, with imaging evidence of extra-axial tumor lesion, located at the level of the interpeduncular cistern. Complete excision was performed, with a pathological

PURPOSE: To determine the incidence, timing, and clinical significance of long-bone fractures in children with Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 93 consecutive cases of ESFT of the long bones seen at a single institution over the course of a 37-year period.
RESULTS: Fracture occurred in 14 (15%) of 93 patients with long-bone ESFT, most commonly in the femur. Approximately 30% of patients with tumors of the femur had fractures at some point in the course of their disease. The incidence of fracture was highest among patients with tumors of

Ewing Sarcoma (EwS) is the second most common malignant bone tumor in adolescents and young adults. The single-most powerful predictor of outcome in EwS is presence of metastatic burden at the time of diagnosis. Patients with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma have an abysmal 5-year survival rate of 10%-25%, which has not changed over the past 30-40 years. Thus, unraveling underlying mechanisms of EwS metastasis are imperative for developing effective therapeutic measures. Investigations towards this goal are limited by the lack of reliable genetically engineered mouse models and specialized metastatic

Nonosseous Ewing sarcoma commonly occurs in the extremities or deep soft tissues. However, cutaneous and subcutaneous locations have been reported. A 3-year-old boy presented with a 2-year history of a painless, slowly growing mid-scrotal mass. Pathology after surgical excision revealed the lesion to be Ewing sarcoma. The patient is free of metastatic disease and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Soft-tissue malignancies must be kept in the differential diagnosis of any solid paratesticular mass in a child. Although rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common, as this case demonstrates, other rare

Three cases of Ewing sarcoma in the jaw bones are presented. The first patient is a 43-year-old woman with a rapidly growing tumor in the hard palate. The second patient is a 9-year-old girl with tumor in the left mandibular ramus and body. In both patients, the tumors were excised with significant safe margins. However, postoperative histopathologic evaluation revealed the presence of tumor cells in bony margins, necessitating a second surgery. The third patient is a 9-year-old boy with tumor in the right mandibular ramus and body. In patients 1 and 2, chemotherapy failed to control the tumor

The plain radiographic and computed tomographic (CT) findings in two unusual cases of spinal Ewing sarcoma are reported. Radiographic features resembling neuroblastoma in one case and aneurysmal bone cyst in the other were present. These findings may be misleading and distinguishing characteristics in each case are discussed.

Ewing sarcomas are the 2nd cause of malignant bone tumors in children and young adults. After induction chemotherapy, local treatment is essential and most often includes surgery of the primary tumor. Radiotherapy may be necessary as an exclusive local procedure when surgery is not possible, or in an adjuvant situation when the surgical procedure must be completed (incomplete resection or poor histological response in particular). Radiotherapy can also concern metastatic sites, particularly in cases of pulmonary metastases and/or in an oligo-metastatic situation. This article provides a review
