[Effect of scopolia drugs on the gastric mucosal lesion in rats].

In the present paper, effects of scopolia drugs (scopolamine, anisodine, anisodamine) on experimental gastric mucosal lesion models in rats were investigated. Scopolia drugs were found to be effective anti-ulcer agents in three experimental gastric ulcer models (i.e. cold-restraint stress induced ulcer, indomethacin induced ulcer and acetic acid induced chronic ulcer) in rats in a dose dependent manner. Biochemical analysis of gastric juice and blood showed that scopolia drugs could inhibit gastric acid secretion and pepsin activity, increase gastric barrier mucus and concentration of serum ga

The sexual reproductive strategy in clonal Scopolia carniolica is based on obligatory cross-pollination and self-incompatibility.

Understanding the reproductive biology and breeding system of rare species is crucial for effective conservation. We examined floral biology, assessed the true pollinators, and investigated the reproductive effect of six pollination treatments (spontaneous and induced autogamy, geitonogamy, spontaneous and supplemental cross-pollination, control - flowers exposed to natural pollinators) on the fruit and seed set and their quality (size, viability) in two populations (artificial and natural) of clonal Scopolia carniolica (Solanaceae), a rare species distributed across Central and South-Eastern

Uniformly sized molecularly imprinted polymer for atropine and its application to the determination of atropine and scopolamine in pharmaceutical preparations containing Scopolia extract.

A uniformly sized molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for atropine has been prepared. The MIP was prepared using 2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a functional monomer and cross-linker, respectively, by a multi-step swelling and thermal polymerization method. The selectivity factor, which is defined as the ratio of the retention factors (k) on the molecularly imprinted and non-imprinted polymers, k(imprinted)/k(non-imprinted), was 2.2 for atropine on the MIP. The obtained MIP was applied for the determination of tropane alkaloids (atropine and scopolamine)

Application of ion-pair high performance liquid chromatography for analysis of hyoscyamine and scopolamine in solanaceous crude drugs.

A new ion-pair high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the analysis of hyoscyamine and scopolamine in various kinds of crude drugs derived from solanaceous plants was evaluated using sodium dodecyl sulfate as a counter ion. A reversed-phase chromatographic system consisting of a chemically bonded ODS silica gel column with phosphate buffer (pH 2.5)-acetonitrile (65:35) containing 17.5 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate as the mobile phase was used. Hyoscyamine and scopolamine in crude drugs derived from Scopolia, Atropa, Hyoscyamus and Datura species were separated from other compounds in th

[The history of scopolamine--with special reference to its use in anesthesia].

Potions from plants, now known to contain scopolamine, were used in antiquity and the middle ages. However, wide-spread application of drugs for induction of insensibility to pain did not occur, probably because of side-effects and unpredictable dose-effect relationships. The word "scopolamine" is derived from "Scopolia carniolica", a solanaceous plant so named by Carl von Linné in honour of supposed discoverer, J. A. Scopoli. However, description of the effects and picture of the same plant have been found in A. P. Matthioli's work. Scopolamine is still widely used in anaesthetic practice and

[Sites of seizure discharges after intracerebroventricular injection of anisodamine and the antagonism by diazepam in rabbits].

Anisodamine is a tropine alkaloid isolated from Scopolia tangutica Maxim. To determine the original sites of anisodamine seizure discharge, permanent electrodes were implanted into different parts of the brain in rabbits and the electrical activities were continuously recorded by monopolar leads. Injection of anisodamine 1.5 mg/kg into the lateral ventricle of conscious rabbits always produced abnormal discharges. The spike discharges appeared first in the amygdala and consisted of rhythmic large surface-positive spikes. Multiple spikes then appeared in the hippocampus, caudate nucleus, midbra

[Postoperative pain relief by preanesthetic administration of buprenorphine suppository in elective mastectomy].

Seventy female patients scheduled for elective mastectomy were divided into three groups: Buprenorphine suppository (BPS) 0.4 mg group (n = 29); BPS 0.2 mg (n = 23) group; and control (scopolia extract and tannic acid suppository) group (n = 18). Suppositories were administered rectally to patients of each group one hour before induction of anesthesia. Plasma buprenorphine concentrations, sedation scores at entering the operating room, postoperative pain scores and side effects were evaluated. There were no significant differences in sedation effects of suppository among the three groups. Alth

Anisodamine hydrobromide ameliorates acute lung injury via inhibiting pyroptosis in murine sepsis model.

OBJECTIVE: Sepsis can have severe implications on lung function, leading to acute lung injury (ALI), a major contributor to sepsis-related mortality. Anisodamine hydrobromide (Ani HBr), a bioactive constituent derived from the root of Scopolia tangutica Maxim, a plant endemic to China, has demonstrated efficacy in treating septic shock. We aim to explore whether Ani HBr can alleviate sepsis-triggered ALI and elucidate the fundamental mechanisms involved. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The protective effects of Ani HBr were assessed in two models: in vitro, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7
