[Advances of self-healing dental composite resin].

Degradation of composite resin during ageing always produces micro-cracks, the latter could gradually expand, leading to the fracture of tooth restoration. In order to extend the service life of composite resin by repairing cracks intelligently, self-healing microcapsule models have been introduced in resin-based dental materials. This paper will present the concept and classification of self-healing materials, and review the research progresses on self-healing dental resin.

A case report of allergic reaction with acute facial swelling: a rare complication of dental acrylic resin.

Resin components, such as methyl methacrylate (MMA) can cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Allergic reactions to resin are usually delayed. Only a few studies have reported dental resin allergy with acute symptoms. Here, a case of ACD with acute facial swelling after dental treatment using resin material is reported. A 55-year-old woman with a history of periungual inflammation when using gel nail polish had repeated episodes of facial swelling after dental treatment with resin material. The resin temporary crown was removed, and symptoms were alleviated with antihistamines and corticost

Comparative analysis of self-cure and dual cure-dental composites on their physico-mechanical behaviour.

BACKGROUND: Clinical practitioners may have become familiar with the rapid transformation of dental composites. However, they may not scientifically understand the factors influencing the mechanical and physical properties. Scientific knowledge of filler-resin interaction can significantly improve clinical understanding of resin composites. Several independent studies have examined the mechanical and physico-mechanical properties of dental resin composites; however, no comprehensive study has examined the influence of fillers and resin materials on the physico-mechanical properties of both sel

Assessing the impact of surface treatment, aging, and post-curing conditions on the water sorption and solubility of 3D-printed denture base resins compared to conventional and milled alternatives.

BACKGROUND: High water sorption and solubility in total denture base materials are primary factors contributing to prosthetic failure, as they compromise both mechanical and aesthetic properties. This study investigated how three distinct surface treatments, varying aging protocols, and different curing parameters collectively influence the water sorption (Wsp) and solubility (Wsl) of 3D-printed denture base materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study evaluated the water sorption and solubility of 420 disc-shaped specimens (Ø15 × 2 ± 0,2 mm) fabricated from one conventional heat-cured acryli

The effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle concentration on the adhesion of mucin and Streptococcus mutans to heat-cured acrylic resin.

Incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles as antibacterial fillers in heat-cured acrylic resin could decrease mucin and Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) adhesion, reducing the incidence of dental caries in the baseplates of orthodontic patients. Here, ZnO nanoparticles were modified using 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate with various concentrations, added to acrylic resin powder, homogenized, mixed with acrylic resin liquid, and processed. The composite systems interfered well with mucin and S. mutans adhesion. The lowest mean of the amount of mucin adhered was on heat-cured acrylic r

Extractable free monomers from self-cured dental sealants resulting from dispensing errors.

High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) experiments were performed on a series of commercially available self-curing dental sealant materials that were deliberately mismixed. The goal of the experiments was to measure the amount of extractable sealant under conditions of nonideal processing as might happen clinically. The stoichiometry of the two component resins ranged from a 2/1 to a 1/2 catalyst to base mixture using a commercially available self-cure sealant that was to be mixed 1/1 based on the manufacturer's recommendations. Following fabrication the samples were immersed in an eth
