Improving functional disability in patients with tremor: A clinical perspective of the efficacies, considerations, and challenges of assistive technology.

Despite advances in treatments for tremor disorders, many patients are still left with functional disability affecting both basic and complex tasks needed for independent living, reflecting a significant gap in the current management of tremor disorders. Assistive devices present a possible solution to bridge the gap between symptom burden and current therapies, offering safe and effective tremor suppression. Although not yet considered as an option in most therapeutic guidelines for tremor disorders, assistive technologies (AT) offer a unique opportunity as adjunctive interventions utilising

Vision-Based Person-Following Algorithm for Assistive Elderly-Care Quadruped Robots.

The demographic shift towards an aging population necessitates innovative solutions for care and mobility support. While commercial quadruped robots like the Unitree Go1 offer dynamic stability, their native following modes often lack the safety margins and predictability required, and they do not consistently follow the user, at times deviating and navigating independently. This paper presents a robust, vision-based, person-following algorithm designed to address these limitations. Utilizing a ZED 2 stereo camera and Robot Operating System (ROS), the system employs a finite state machine to e

Can Everyday Assistive Technologies Provide Meaningful Support to Persons With Dementia and Their Informal Caregivers? Evaluation of Collaborative Community Program.

One of the most challenging caregiving roles today is providing informal care to an individual with dementia. A new program, "AT-Home with Dementia," was created by three collaborative social service agencies to offer simple assistive technologies to persons with dementia and their informal caregivers. Staff, equipped with a traveling kit of everyday devices, offered items during home visits to enhance memory, functional activities, safety, and comfort of persons with dementia. A limited formative program review led to improvements in the new program's reach, service delivery, and data. The re
