Unraveling Shallot Viral Diversity: PCR Detection and In Vitro Culture.

Shallot (Allium cepa var. aggregatum) is an annual herbaceous plant of the Amaryllidaceae family cultivated worldwide for its gastronomic importance, unique flavour, and nutritional properties. In Ecuador, shallot is considered an emerging crop; however, the lack of effective detection and treatment options for phytoviruses remains a challenge for farmers. These viruses negatively impact crop yield, leading to substantial economic losses and declining crop quality. Simultaneous infections can synergistically exacerbate crop damage. In this study, the molecular detection of the five most common

Low-damage mechanised harvesting of shallots: from biomechanical interaction mechanisms to bionic and flexible design strategies.

With the rapid expansion of the shallot industrial scale, the high costs and low efficiency associated with traditional manual harvesting have emerged as core bottlenecks restricting the sustainable development of the industry. When deployed in shallot fields, existing general-purpose root-crop harvesting equipment encounters a typical engineering mechanics contradiction: the "high pull-out resistance of deep root systems" versus the "high vulnerability of tender pseudostems". Consequently, achieving efficient, intact, and non-destructive harvesting remains challenging. To address the technica

Comparable Metabolic and Histopathological Observations of Enzymatic and Non-Enzymatic Thai Shallot Extracts in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice.

Thai shallot (Allium cepa L. var. aggregatum) is rich in quercetin glycosides, which can be enzymatically hydrolyzed into aglycone forms with potentially higher bioavailability. However, whether this structural modification enhances metabolic efficacy in vivo remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the metabolic and histopathological effects of enzymatic (ESE) and non-enzymatic (NES) Thai shallot extracts in a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mouse model. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed HFD for 12 weeks to induce obesity, followed by a 12-week treatment with NES or ESE (1000 and 2000 mg/kg/da

Pre-exposure to UV-B irradiation induces antioxidant enzymes and mitigates Fusarium acutatum stress in shallot (Allium cepa L.).

Shallot (Allium cepa var. aggregatum) productivity is often limited by fungal diseases, particularly twisted disease caused by Fusarium acutatum. This study evaluated the effects of UV-B pre-exposure (150 min) on enhancing plant resistance under greenhouse conditions using four treatments: control, UV-B, F. acutatum, and UV-B + F. acutatum. UV-B pre-treatment significantly reduced disease incidence, severity, and the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) compared with infected plants without UV-B exposure. Although infection suppressed growth, UV-B pre-exposure alleviated these effects
