Pituitary adenomas have been increasingly detected in recent years, especially in the older population. Black patients have a higher incidence than other racial groups. In patients with functioning tumors, presentation and comorbidities are influenced by age and sex, whereas the impact of ethnoracial background is unclear. Active surveillance recommendation and surgery refusal disproportionally affect Black and older patients. The likelihood of surgery at high-volume centers is lower for patients of Black or Hispanic background, uninsured or with lower socioeconomic status. Multicentric studie

We explored the extent to which prisoner sociodemographic variables (age, education, marital status, employment, and whether their parents were married or not) influenced offending in 64 randomly selected Brunei inmates, comprising both sexes. A quantitative field survey design ideal for the type of participants used in a prison context was employed to investigate the problem. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis with backward elimination identified prisoner marital status and age groups as significantly related to offending. Furthermore, hierarchical multinomial logistic regression analy

OBJECTIVE: Several studies have reported that ethnic differences influence psychiatric diagnoses. Some previous studies reported that African Americans and Hispanics are diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders more frequently than Caucasians, and that Caucasians are more likely to be diagnosed with affective disorders than other ethnic groups. We sought to identify associations between sociodemographic factors and psychiatric diagnosis.
METHODS: We retrospectively examined the medical records of all psychiatric inpatients (ages over 18 years) treated at Kern county mental hospital (n=

To identify the sociodemographic factors associated to self-medication (i.e. use of non-prescription medicines) and undesirable self-medication, a cross-sectional study was carried out using a sample (n = 20,311) representative of the population of adults of 16 years of age and older in Spain. Multivariate Cox's regression was used. The prevalence of self-medication in the sample was 12.7% during the two weeks preceding the interview. Self-medication is more prevalent among women, persons who live alone, and persons who live in large cities. For persons who reported acute disorders, self-medic

Substantial evidence exists that regular screening is effective in preventing cervical cancer. However, the existing services are underused by many women in Taiwan. To examine the effects of sociodemographic characteristics on the underuse of Papanicolaou (Pap) smear screening, from September to December 1993 we conducted a questionnaire interview on a sample of 4,400 women aged 20 years and older in Taipei city using multistage sampling with probability proportional to size. Our results indicate that 40% of the women sampled have never had a Pap smear and 86% have not had one in the past year

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In the US, the national incidence of reported TB cases was 2.16 per 100,000 persons in 2020 and 2.37 per 100,000 persons in 2021. Furthermore, TB disproportionately affects minorities. Specifically, in 2018, 87% of reported TB cases occurred in racial and ethnic minorities in Mississippi. Data from TB patients from the Mississippi Department of Health (2011-2020) were used to examine the association between sociodemographic subgroups (race, age, place of birth, gender, homelessness, and alcohol use) with TB outcome variables. Knowledge regarding the inpatient burden of scabies is limited, as previous studies have focused on epidemiologic trends in the outpatient setting. Using the National Inpatient Sample to identify sociodemographic factors associated with scabies in hospitalized patients, we found that patients who were aged 40-64, male, homeless, Medicaid-insured/uninsured, and admitted to hospitals in ZIP codes of the lowest income quartile were more likely to be diagnosed with scabies.

BACKGROUND: It has been observed in several studies that infants with anotia/microtia are more common among Hispanics compared with other racial/ethnic groups. We examined the association between selected Hispanic ethnicity and acculturation factors and anotia/microtia in the National Birth Defects Prevention Study.
METHODS: We examined data from mothers of 351 infants with isolated anotia/microtia and 8435 unaffected infants from the National Birth Defects Prevention Study with an expected delivery date from 1997 to 2007. Sociodemographic, maternal, and acculturation factors (e.g., age, mate

AIM: Blood donor retention represents a fundamental objective in public health. Comparison between the sociodemographic characteristics and motivational factors between lapsed and regular donors is then required. The objectives of this analysis were: (1) to compare the sociodemographic characteristics of lapsed donors and current donors; (2) to compare the motivations to donate blood expressed by lapsed and current donors.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data from a 2008 survey, representative of the population by crossed quotas method, of 1400 individuals questioned by phone were used to reach these o

INTRODUCTION: Sociodemographic and obstetric factors have been shown to impact childbirth experience, but results regarding the effect of certain factors have been heterogeneous. It is important to understand how individual risk factors affect childbirth experience to be able to identify women at risk for negative childbirth experience. The aim of this study was to determine individual associations between sociodemographic and obstetric factors and childbirth experience.
