In Korean herbal medicine dandelion (Taraxacum officinale, TO) has been used to improve energy levels and health. However, the effects of TO in experimental models remain unclear. We examined the anti-fatigue and immune-enhancing effects of TO in mice by performing a forced swimming test (FST) and in vitro by using peritoneal macrophages, respectively. After daily oral administration of TO, blood biochemical parameters related to fatigue were measured after the FST. FST immobility time was significantly decreased in the TO-treated group (100 mg/kg) on the tenth day. TO (10 and 100 mg/kg) treat

This chapter describes the erratic course of the research journey of our research group into the elucidation of the genetic basis of apomixis in the common dandelion, Taraxacum officinale s. l. Research is rarely straightforward; sometimes, it comes to a standstill, requiring a shift in approach. Our journey took years to complete, starting with the theoretical genetic models and culminating in the cloning of the parthenogenesis gene. Along the way, we employed a suite of genetic, cell biological, and molecular techniques.

The use of herbal medicines to treat ailments is a common practice in several regions in Africa, relying on knowledge systems that have evolved over several generations. These herbal remedies are often based on anecdotal claims, many of which lack scientific validation. This study investigates the mode of action of two bioactive fractions, F1 (IC50: 8.5 µg/mL) and F5 (IC50: 7.4 µg/mL), derived from a dichloromethane extract of a herbal mixture, consisting of Aloe barbadensis and Taraxacum officinale, that is commonly used in Ghana to treat parasitic fevers. Both fractions exhibited trypanocida

Several preclinical studies suggest the potential of edible plants in controlling blood sugar levels and stabilizing diet. The goals of the study were to examine, analyze, and describe whether there are chemical compounds in dandelion and burdock roots that could have antidiabetic properties. The 70% ethyl alcohol and lyophilizate extracts (AE and LE, respectively), were used, and analyses were carried out on their total polysaccharide (TP), total phenolic content (TPC), tannin, and inulin. The antioxidant activity of extracts was determined using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) assay
