Nine different tattoo dyes were analysed by various tests. Mixtures of organic dyes and inorganic filler were found; the inorganic filler consisted mainly of titanium dioxide (TiO2). Tattooing has become increasingly common in recent decades, yet little is known regarding factors that influence tattoo behavior. Sources of influence will be important, for instance in aiding studies of long-term health effects. From the population-based Danish Twin Tattoo Cohort established in 2021, the study included 9,173 randomly selected twins born 1920-2004. BACKGROUND: Tattoos are regarded as body jewelry and have become widespread in all parts of society. Despite introduction of the tattooing agents' regulation (Tätowiermittelverordnung) in Germany in 2009, consumer protection is incomplete.

Medical tattooing is mostly known as a treatment option after breast reconstructive surgery. Nowadays, medical tattooing has a broader indication and can be used for treating port wine stains, scars, burns and transplanted skin. We present three patients with different indications for medical tattooing: one patient with a facial port wine stain, one patient with a scar after a thoracotomy, and a patient with a skin transplantation.
