Sustained change in didactic skills--does teacher training last?

Teacher training programmes are necessary assets in faculty development. Few data exist on their long-term effects on participants' teaching skills. Our aim was to study participants' didactic competencies up to four years after attending a newly established faculty development workshop at Hamburg Medical School. Of the 322 participants who attended our teacher training between 2006 and 2009, 313 received a self-assessment and evaluation questionnaire in 2010. This follow-up self-assessment (t2) was compared with their self-assessment of the same didactic competencies before (t0) and directly

Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training: Impact on Incarcerated Men's Wellness.

In late 2021, the United States had a total of 1.2 million individuals confined in state and federal prisons, with approximately 1.1 million of these people being men. Although existing research provides evidence that engaging in yoga programs within prison settings can enhance the well-being of incarcerated individuals, with several studies supporting this claim, knowledge regarding the specific effects of participating in a yoga teacher training program during confinement is still lacking. The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of completing a prison-based 200-ho

Training in the management of critical problems: teacher's view.

Teaching in critical obstetric problems should have special interest during residency and thereafter. Obstetric emergencies are relatively rare but may occur at any time. The obstetrician at that moment enters a special area requiring a multidisciplinary approach. From experiences in recent years and study of the literature the following recommendations can be summarized; (1) the need to understand (patho)physiologic changes in pregnancy, (2) cultivation of an anticipative attitude towards conditions with elevated risks, (3) adequate knowledge of diagnostic procedures, (4) the discipline to ma

Reducing teachers' psychological distress through a mindfulness training program.

Teachers constitute one of the professional collectives most affected by psychological problems. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study is to examine the efficacy of a mindfulness training programme to reduce psychological distress in a group of teachers. The sample comprised 68 teachers of Secondary School Education, from various public schools; half of them formed the experimental group, and the another half the control group. The levels of psychological distress were measured, in both groups, by the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) before and after the application of the programme. S

Children of alcoholics in the classroom: a survey of teacher perceptions and training needs.

Children of alcoholics (COAs) represent a population at risk for alcoholism as well as other physical, emotional, and social problems. This survey explored perceptions of North Carolina elementary and middle school teachers regarding roles and responsibilities in assisting COAs, their need for additional training specific to COAs, and their perceptions of school-based resources for helping COAs. Survey findings teachers generally are willing to assist COAs but need training regarding these children. Training is particularly appropriate for teachers who perceive a low incidence of COAs in their

Teacher-Implemented Response Interruption and Redirection: Training, Evaluation, and Descriptive Analysis of Treatment Integrity.

Response interruption and redirection (RIRD) is an effective intervention for decreasing stereotypy. During RIRD, contingent on occurrences of stereotypy, therapists interrupt the behavior and prompt the participant to complete an alternative response. Although RIRD has been implemented by teachers in classrooms, it requires continuous monitoring of participants to be implemented with fidelity and may be difficult for teachers to manage. The present study evaluated the effectiveness of RIRD when implemented in classrooms. In addition, we evaluated if novice teaching assistants could be trained

Latent Profiles in the Perception of Knowledge in Emotional Education During Initial Teacher Training: A Retrospective Study of Chilean In-Service Teachers.

Emotional education is fundamental in teacher training due to its impact on teacher well-being and student learning. In Chile, initial teacher training has addressed this dimension in a fragmented manner, and little is known about whether in-service teachers exhibit distinct patterns of retrospectively perceived preparation across different domains of emotional education. This study aimed to identify and characterize latent profiles of retrospectively perceived knowledge in emotional education acquired during initial teacher training among Chilean in-service teachers. Using a retrospective des

Mapping perceived training gaps in educational neuroscience among Brazilian teachers.

Educational neuroscience has attracted substantial interest from teachers, but professional-development programs are often designed without a formal assessment of the difference between what educators believe they know and what they wish to learn. This secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey examined perceived training needs in educational neuroscience among 204 active Brazilian teachers. Participants rated, on six-point scales (0-5), their self-perceived knowledge and their desire to learn more about 10 neuroscience-related topics. We defined a training-gap indicator as the within-part

Impact of Vocal Hygiene Training on Teachers' Willingness to Change Vocal Behaviors.

There is a high incidence of dysphonia reported in teachers, which has been shown to indicate the teacher's ability to instruct as well as students' ability to comprehend. Factors such as extra vocal load, poor classroom acoustics, and health issues may increase a teacher's risk of acquiring a voice disorder that impacts his or her career. A common approach to treating or preventing voice disorders is the use of vocal hygiene training. Many studies have addressed different types of voice training with mixed results due to lengthy training programs, poor implementation, and other factors relate

The impact of preventive voice care programs for training teachers: a longitudinal study.

The teaching profession puts vocal health at a higher risk than other professions, causing what is referred to as "occupational dysphonia." There is a need for primary prevention of "occupational dysphonia" among the teaching profession, where good vocal health is promoted before a problem occurs. To investigate the primary prevention of occupational dysphonia among teachers, this study uses a sample population of 55 training teachers, in the postgraduate certificate of education (PGCE) course at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, who were randomly assigned to three training groups: c
