Subpectoral biceps tenodesis.

The long head of the biceps brachii (LHB) tendon has long been recognized as a source of shoulder pain. Surgeons have debated the merits of tenotomy versus tenodesis, open versus arthroscopic approaches, and various fixation methods. This article reviews the clinical findings associated with LHB pathology, describes the operative technique of subpectoral biceps tenodesis, and reviews the current literature related to treatment of the symptomatic LHB tendon. The miniopen subpectoral approach is technically less demanding than purely arthroscopic techniques, and offers the potential for improved

Arthroscopic biceps tenodesis.

The proximal biceps tendon is a significant source of shoulder pain that may be treated with biceps tenotomy or tenodesis. Biceps tenodesis has suggested advantages over tenotomy that include maintenance of the length-tension relationship, prevention of muscle atrophy, maintenance of elbow flexion and supination strength, avoidance of cramping pain, and avoidance of cosmetic deformity. The recent advancement of all arthroscopic tenodesis techniques has provided sufficient fixation strength while easing technical demands and minimizing neurovascular injury risk. With our newer techniques and be

Arthroscopic biceps tenodesis.

Surgical treatment of symptomatic pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon generally consists of either biceps tenotomy or tenodesis. Biceps tenodesis is generally recommended for younger patients and has been well described using open techniques. With advancements in arthroscopic ability and equipment, new arthroscopic techniques have recently been reported. These techniques can be especially useful when used in conjunction with other arthroscopic procedures such as distal clavicle resection, rotator cuff repair, and subacromial decompression. We present a modification of the technique

Subpectoral Biceps Tenodesis.

Biceps tenodesis is a common procedure performed for tendinopathy of the long head of the biceps brachii (LHB). Indications include partial-thickness LHB tear, tendon subluxation with or without subscapularis tear, and failed conservative management of bicipital tenosynovitis. Biceps tenodesis may also be performed for superior labrum anterior to posterior tears. Evaluation of biceps stability is important in the treatment of LHB pathology. We advocate a technique of subpectoral biceps tenodesis. Interference screw fixation has demonstrated biomechanical superiority in laboratory models. If th

Biceps Tenotomy Versus Tenodesis.

Long head biceps tendon is a common cause of anterior shoulder pain. Failure of conservative treatment may warrant surgical intervention. Surgical treatment involves long head biceps tenotomy or tenodesis. Several different techniques have been described for biceps tenodesis, including arthroscopic versus open and suprapectoral versus subpectoral. Most studies comparing tenodesis to tenotomy are limited by the level of evidence and confounding factors, such as concomitant rotator cuff tear. Many studies demonstrate similar outcomes for both procedures. Surgeon preference is likely more influen

All-Arthroscopic Suprapectoral Biceps Tenodesis.

Biceps tenodesis is a common treatment for pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon. Several authors have described various arthroscopic and open techniques for biceps tenodesis. Open techniques have been associated with complications such as wound infection and nerve injury. Previously described arthroscopic techniques have placed the tenodesis site within the bicipital groove, which may lead to persistent pain. We describe an all-arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis technique that places the tenodesis site distal to the bicipital groove. This technique potentially avoids the co

[Humeral fracture after keyhole tenodesis].

Author reports on experiences with the Froimson-Oh operation for rupture of the long head of the biceps brachii. The operation is thought to be advantageous. It is stressed in connection with 2 cases that the faulty choice of the place of the keyhole and its unadequate formation may predispose to humerus fracture and therefore this stage of the operation needs special care. The patient has to be warned, beside early movement, to adequate caution.

Tenodesis Grasp Detection in Egocentric Video.

OBJECTIVE: Cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI) can impair motor function in the upper limbs. Video from wearable cameras (egocentric video) has the potential to provide monitoring of rehabilitation outcomes at home, but methods for automated analysis of this data are needed. Wrist flexion and extension are essential elements to track grasping strategies after cSCI, as they may reflect the use of the tenodesis grasp, a common compensatory strategy. However, there is no established method to evaluate wrist flexion and extension from egocentric video. METHODS: We propose a machine-learning-based

Arthroscopic tenodesis of the long head of the biceps.

The long head of the biceps (LHB) is commonly implicated in shoulder pathology due to its anatomic course and intimacy with the rotator cuff and superior labrum of the glenoid. Treatment of tendinosis of the LHB may be required secondary to partial thickness tears, instability/subluxation, associated rotator cuff tears, or SLAP (superior labrum, anterior to posterior) lesions. Treatment options include open or arthroscopic techniques for tenodesis vs tenotomy. Controversy exists in the orthopedic literature regarding the preferred procedure. The all-arthroscopic biceps tenodesis technique is a

Keyhole tenodesis of biceps origin at the shoulder.

A simple but efficient way to secure the biceps tendon after it has been detached at its upper end by either trauma, attrition or surgical interference is the use of the keyhole in the upper humerus. A tied or rolled knot of tendon inserted into a keyhole shaped opening in the bicipital groove permits firm attachment of the tendon to bone permitting immediate shoulder and elbow motion. Immediate postoperative joint motion avoids aggravation of coexisting shoulder disease and permits early return to work or sports. Use of this procedure in 11 patients with good to excellent results in all confi

Complications of Proximal Biceps Tenotomy and Tenodesis.

The long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) is a well-recognized cause of anterior shoulder pain. Tenotomy or tenodesis of the LHBT is an effective surgical solution for relieving pain arising from the LHBT. Cosmetic deformity of the arm, cramping or soreness in the biceps muscle, and strength deficits in elbow flexion and supination are the three most common adverse events associated with tenotomy of the LHBT. Complications associated with tenodesis of the LHBT include loss of fixation resulting in cosmetic deformity, residual groove pain, pain or soreness in the biceps muscle, infection, stiffness

Tendoachilles tenodesis to the fibula: a retrospective study.

Tendoachilles tenodesis to the fibula was performed in postpolio patients to improve their gait. The charts of 48 patients with 52 tenodeses were reviewed. The mean follow-up was 5.5 years. Gait improved in one-third. When the hindfoot was stabilized, gait improved in 40% of the patients, but when it was not stabilized, only 22% improved their gait. Excessive equinus developed in 18 patients, all of whom were less than age 12 years when operated. We conclude that it is reasonable to use this procedure to improve the gait of postpolio children with flail lower extremity, provided the hindfoot i

Arthroscopic biceps tenodesis: Inlay or onlay technique?

BACKGROUND: The long-term outcomes of arthroscopic tenodesis using the onlay (groove) and inlay (groove) techniques remain debated with respect to tendon healing and graft stability. The aim of our study was to identify the optimal tenodesis strategy by comparing the effects of arthroscopic inlay and onlay techniques on postoperative complication rates, patient satisfaction, and functional recovery. METHODS: Between 2015 and 2021, the treatment outcomes of 54 patients who underwent arthroscopic biceps tenodesis using either the inlay or onlay technique for the management of superior labrum an

Proximal humerus fracture after keyhole biceps tenodesis.

A biceps tenodesis is a common surgical procedure that is often carried out in conjunction with other surgical shoulder repairs to relieve biceps tendonitis. This case presents a 50-year-old woman who suffered a humerus fracture following an open keyhole biceps tenodesis. The potential reasons for the fracture as well as a brief analysis of the technique itself are presented. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a humerus fracture following keyhole biceps tenodesis in the English-language literature.

Arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis provided earlier shoulder function restoration compared with open subpectoral biceps tenodesis during the recovery phase.

BACKGROUND: This study compared the clinical outcomes of open subpectoral biceps tenodesis and arthroscopic suprapectoral biceps tenodesis for symptomatic biceps tenosynovitis. Although both techniques have pros and cons, no studies have compared clinical and functional outcomes during the recovery phase. Previous studies show that suprapectoral tenodesis has a higher probability of Popeye deformity and postoperative bicipital pain and stiffness, whereas subpectoral tenodesis has a higher risk of nerve complications and wound infections. This study aimed for clinical comparison between arthros
