UNLABELLED: The thyrogloss cysts present themselves usually as unique tumorations in the anterior cervical zone, more frequently in the second decade of life and affecting equally the two sexs. They move typically with the movements of deglution and can increase its volume with infections processes. In seldom occasions, the thyrogloss cysts can present symptoms as dysphonia, dysphagia or dyspnea facts that can suggest its laryngeal extension.
METHODS: We present a case of a patient affected by dysphonia of long evolution, associated to the presence of a cervical mass. The CT showed a cervical

INTRODUCTION: A thyroglossal cyst (TGC) is an unusual neck lesion that is occassionally diagnosed in a general hospital that mostly attend adult patients. The aim of the current study was to analyze our experience in the management of these lesions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The records of 43 patients operated on at the Social Security Hospital in Quito (Ecuador) from 1980 to 1998 for a thyroglossal duct cyst or fistula, were reviewed.
RESULTS: Distribution was similar in both sexes. Mean age was 23. Thirty-five patients presented with a cystic lesion located in the midline or slightly laterally

OBJECTIVE: Thyroglossal duct cysts are remnants of the embryonic thyroglossal duct that may occur anywhere from the base of the tongue to the thyroid gland. The majority, however, are found at the level of the thyrohyoid membrane, under the deep cervical fascia. They are midline or just off the midline, and move up and down upon swallowing. This paper presents five case reports of TDC seen in the Department of Ear-Nose-Throat Surgery Regional Hospital Of Chania, Crete, Greece. It also discusses the different diagnostic approaches and differential diagnoses of the lesion.

Thyroglossal duct cysts commonly present as midline neck masses with or without infection. The presentation of thyroglossal duct cyst on the tongue is quite uncommon. The present report reviews the embryology of thyroglossal duct cyst development and describes two cases of lingual thyroglossal duct cyst. They presented in an infant of two months of age with feeding problems and also in an older child four years of age with a mass in the base of the tongue. Both patients were managed by marsupialization of the cyst of the tongue. The complications of tongue and mandible splitting or cervical ap

INTRODUCTION: Thyroglossal duct cysts are a common congenital anomaly in the neck which usually present in adulthood as a midline neck swelling the location of which can vary from lingual, suprahyoid, infrahyoid and suprasternal.
CASE REPORT: Here we have described the case of a thirty-year-old male who presented with a history of recent onset dysphonia and an unnoticed neck swelling. Clinical examination revealed a midline 2 x 2 cm cystic lesion in the neck. On further evaluation using laryngoscopy and computed tomography the patient was found to have a smooth mucosa-covered cyst in the subg

Thyroglossal cyst is frequently located in the thyrohyoid region. In rare cases, it breaches and remodeles anatomical structures of the larynx and manifests with dysphonia and laryngeal obstruction. A 60-year-old patient with a big thyroglossal duct cyst with laryngeal extension and cartilage erosion is described. Computed tomography clearly demonstrated the nature of the cyst and its extension into the larynx.

OBJECTIVE: To report the management and outcome of three cases of papillary carcinoma (PC) in thyroglossal duct cysts (TGCs).
METHODS: We present case reports of one female and two male patients between the ages of 22 and 46 years who had TGCs. In addition, we discuss the theories about the pathogenesis of TGC carcinoma (de novo versus metastatic lesions).
RESULTS: In all three patients, we found a TGC that contained a vegetating mass. Subsequent pathologic examination revealed the presence of a PC. All patients underwent total thyroidectomy, and two of them concurrently had PC in the thyroi

BACKGROUND: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDC) account for 7% of midline neck swellings. TDC carcinoma (TDCC) is rare, reported in 1% of all TDCs. We aimed to describe the incidence of TDCC, the accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), and to identify suspicious, predictive ultrasound (USG) features.
METHOD: A cross sectional study of TDC patients in the Monash University Endocrine Surgery Database from 2001 to 2021.
RESULTS: Eighty-six patients had surgery for TDC, of median age 48 and a female preponderance (62%). Preoperative USG was used in 85% and FNAC in 57%. There were six cases

The location of hydatid disease in organs other than the liver and lung is unusual and occasionally producing difficulties in diagnosis. Thyroglossal cyst itself is not so common, so that more careful search of thyroglossal cyst for the presence of scolex and/or laminated membrane may result in increase in frequency of such a condition in the area where hydatid disease is prevailed. Since we were unable to find a case of hydatid disease involving thyroglossal cyst, as in our present case, we feel justified in reporting this case, considering it would be the first publication in world literatur

Sistrunk procedure is the standard method for thyroglossal duct cyst resection. While this procedure is successful and safe, it results in postoperative scars on the front of neck. We propose a total transoral technique without external incision that starts with careful separation of the floor of the mouth and genioglossus muscle followed by the exact localization of the cyst using methylene blue. Simultaneously, the hyoid bone connected to the cyst and tract was removed. Finally, routine hemostasis is conducted, and the operative cavity is closed. All patients who received this operation in o

Thyroglossal duct cysts can be found in several different locations, although intra-thyroid presentations are rare. We present the case of an 11-year-old patient with a visible neck mass on the right thyroid lobe. On sonogram, it was consistent with a unilocular cyst measuring 2 centimeters in diameter. The cyst did not take up the radioisotope during a gammagram. Fine needle aspiration cytology suggested a diagnosis of thyroglossal duct cyst. At surgery, we found that there were no lesion-dependent thyroglossal tracts; we therefore performed a simple enucleation of the cyst, sparing the rest

An atypically located thyroglossal duct cyst in a 42-year-old man is described. A purely intralaryngeal thyroglossal duct cyst is extremely rare and can mimic other laryngeal lesions. This case demonstrates that thyroglossal duct cyst is a possible cause of intralaryngeal swellings and would have significant implications for the manner in which they are managed.

BACKGROUND: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDC) are common congenital deformities. Most of them are cysts formed by the thyroglossal ducts that do not disappear and degenerate in the early embryonic stage. TDC exists alone and is rarely complicated by other congenital embryonic malformations. Only a few reports of TDC with branchial cleft cysts, thyroid cancer, thyroid hematoma, and epidermoid cysts have been reported. Therefore, we report a patient with TDC and parathyroid cyst (PC), a rare disease that has never been reported.

Epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) is a recognized cause of an anterior neck mass in children. Controversy exists as to the proper surgical management of an anterior neck EIC: is simple excision adequate treatment, or is a Sistrunk procedure necessary? A retrospective review of the operative logs of the two senior authors (M.M.A., R.F.W.) from 1993 to the present revealed 16 children, ages 6 months to 9 years (mean, 4.5 years), with a diagnosis of anterior neck EIC. An accurate intraoperative diagnosis of an EIC in all cases allowed for a simple excision of the mass rather than a Sistrunk procedur

BACKGROUND: A thyroglossal duct cyst typically presents as a long-standing neck mass that becomes symptomatic when inflamed. Hoarseness is an uncommon complaint, and its association may suggest encroachment on and destruction of the larynx. Following removal of the cyst with the Sistrunk procedure, the larynx may need to be reconstructed.
METHODS: A case is reported of a patient who was initially seen with hoarseness and a long-standing midline neck mass. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a large cystic neck mass that eroded the thyroid cartilage and encroached on the pre-epiglottic space

Thyroglossal duct cysts are one of the most common cervical congenital anomalies. They occur along the thyroid migration tract, which extends from the base of the tongue through the midline of the neck to the level of the cricoid cartilage. Thyroglossal duct cysts present as a midline neck mass and are closely associated with the hyoid bone. Here, we describe a case where two cystic structures were found just inferior to the thyroid gland and inferior to the hyoid bone, suggesting a double thyroglossal duct cyst. It is important to diagnose and surgically manage thyroglossal duct cysts as they

A thyroglossal duct cyst is a lesion that occurs as a result from failure of the thyroglossal duct to obliterate during fetal development. Malignant progression is a rare event that might occur in less than 1% of all cases. Because of its rarity, there are conflicting opinions regarding the management of the case. In the present study, a 46-year-old male presented with a painless neck mass that had increased in size over the last 6 months. There was no difficulty in swallowing and breathing, change in voice, significant weight loss, or any signs of hyperthyroidism. Laboratory workup showed tha

OBJECTIVE: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are relatively common congenital midline neck masses that are treated with surgical excision. Traditionally these are removed along with any associated tract and the central portion of the hyoid bone through an anterior neck incision. Some patients with TGDCs want to avoid an external neck scar.
METHODS: We describe the details of a transoral endoscopic vestibular excision of a TGDC and the associated hyoid bone in an adolescent patient.
RESULTS: This novel approach was successful and there were no complications.
CONCLUSION: We propose that cervica

INTRODUCTION: Airway injury is a very rare complication of thyroglossal duct cyst surgery in children. The wound is most frequently located at the larynx, due to a confusion between the hyoid bone and the thyroid cartilage.
OBSERVATION: This is the first report of a tracheal injury complicating Sistrunk's procedure in a 3 year old child, revealed by respiratory distress. Conservative treatment was suggested, requiring a tracheostomy lasting 49 days, leading to decanulation and complete anatomical and functional recovery.
CONCLUSION: This report highlights the specificity of pediatric laryngo

Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are the most common congenital neck mass and often present in the paediatric population as a painless mass in the midline. A lateralised neck mass presenting for the first time in an adult may raise more concern for malignancy or a laryngocele. A 50-year-old man presented with an asymptomatic right level II neck mass adjacent to the thyroid cartilage. Preoperative CT revealed a cystic mass right of the midline with an intralaryngeal component. Intraoperatively, the lesion tracked towards the central hyoid bone; a Sistrunk procedure was performed. Postoperative p
