Cutaneous manifestations of a periradicular inflammation are now uncommon. In most cases the periradicular infection results in the development of an apical granuloma. If there is proliferation of resting epithelial cells in this granuloma a cyst will develop, the so-called radicular cyst. A rare form of periradicular inflammation is the so-called chronisch granulierende Entzündung nach Partsch [Partsch's chronic granulomatous inflammation]. In this case the granulation tissue spreads through the bone and results in a cutaneous odontogenic sinus. We report on a female patient in whom complete

It is generally accepted that bacteria in or outside the root canal are the reason for apical periodontitis and endodontic failures. This case report presents a 60-year-old woman with a periapical lesion and a fistulous tract which did not respond to conventional root canal treatment. During periapical surgery, granulomatous tissue was removed and a calculus-like deposit was observed on the root surface. A radicular cyst was diagnosed. Nine months after this calculus-like deposit had been removed and the cyst enucleated, complete recovery of the bone had occurred. It is suggested that the pres

BACKGROUND: Orbital apex syndrome (OAS) is a rare disease with a noticeable mortality rate. Although its etiology has been repeatedly assessed, few reports have concentrated on odontogenic infection. We presented a rare case of OAS secondary to apical periodontitis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old male was admitted to our hospital for a 3-day history of left orbital and head pain, along with diplopia for 1-day. He also had toothache symptoms before his admission. Due to the atypical early symptoms of orbital apex and cranial nerve injury, no timely and effective diagnosis and treatment were

The authors report a case of a 35-year-old man who presented with left maxillary toothache associated with left sided facial pain and a rapidly progressive loss of vision in the left eye. Clinical and radiological assessments revealed it to be an odontogenic orbital apex syndrome secondary to a vertical root fracture of a tooth. The infection was treated and controlled, postoperative follow-up showed no recurrent inflammation and the patient recovered well. However, the vision was lost permanently. Odontogenic orbital apex syndrome is a rare, aggressive disease. Once the infection spreads, it

Mucormycosis is rare in immunocompetent patients. We describe an unusual case of orbital apex syndrome secondary to mucormycosis that occurred in an immunocompetent 64-year-old man following multiple tooth extractions. We found no frank involvement of the maxillary sinus, which is the usual pathway of spread for this fungal infection. Therefore, we suggest two possible alternate pathways from the oral mucosa to the orbital apex: one via the anterosuperior and posterosuperior alveolar vessels and one via the infraorbital branch of the maxillary artery.

AIM AND BACKGROUND: The management of avulsed immature teeth poses a significant challenge to clinicians, as prolonged dry time before reimplantation may lead to replacement resorption or ankylosis.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Recent studies have shown promising results with the use of an intracanal proprietary pharmaceutical preparation, followed by sealing of the orifice with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). Angiography suggested the presence of vascularized tissue after 1 year, indicating successful regeneration of pulpal tissue in the radicular area.
CONCLUSION: Despite an unfavorable crown-root

This study describes the clinical steps taken in the treatment of a patient who had an avulsed right upper central incisor that presented with incomplete root development and chronic apical periodontitis. A 7-year-old boy was referred from a private dentist to a dental office specializing in endodontics. The tooth had remained in a dry environment for 20 minutes, and tooth replantation was performed at an emergency appointment. After clinical and radiographic examinations, root canal decontamination was performed, followed by several changes in intracanal calcium hydroxide medication. Blood cl

Background and Clinical significance: Apical fenestration is a rarely reported clinical finding that may be associated with apical periodontitis. However, its diagnosis can often be complicated by overlapping clinical and radiographic features. While management traditionally involves a combination of endodontic and surgical interventions, there is limited documentation regarding successful outcomes achieved through non-surgical treatment alone. Therefore, further reporting and investigation of such cases are warranted to enhance clinical understanding and inform decision-making. Case Presentat

This case report describes the procedure and outcome of regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) in a tooth with incomplete root apex and posttreatment apical periodontitis. A 44-year-old patient was referred to the endodontist because of a periapical lesion on tooth #21 and a recent episode of acute periapical abscess. On clinical and radiographic examination, this tooth presented with tenderness to percussion and palpation, periapical radiolucent lesion, external apical resorption, and incomplete apex formation. After coronal access, the filling material was removed, and the canal was gently

INTRODUCTION: In patients, the outcomes of teeth with necrotic pulps and open apexes that have been treated with regenerative endodontics have always been evaluated clinically and radiographically. The purpose of this case report is to present the clinical, radiographic, and histological findings of a regenerative procedure using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) 14 months after the procedure.
METHODS: A 12-year-old boy whose maxillary second premolar tooth had been treated with regenerative endodontics was seen with a chief complaint of pain and sensitivity to cold. After clinical and radiographic

Regenerative endodontic procedures are undertaken on permanent teeth with necrotic pulps and open apices in an attempt to resolve symptoms, to allow the continued development of the root(s), and to reestablish vitality. The available histologic analysis of these teeth has, in the majority of studies, shown that true regeneration of the pulp-dentin complex is not achieved. A recent investigation using an animal model outlined a procedure wherein pulpal amputation a few millimeters short of the apex followed by evoked bleeding allowed the complete regeneration of the normal pulp-dentin complex i

Dens evaginatus (DE) is a developmental anomaly presenting as an enamel-covered tubercle on the occlusal surface of a premolar, particularly found in people of Asian descent. This case report describes partial pulpotomy in a mandibular premolar with a fractured evaginatus tubercle and endodontic infection. A 10.5-year-old girl of Asian descent was referred for endodontic evaluation and treatment because of local swelling and pain. Clinical examination suggested the presence of DE in a noncarious mandibular right second premolar with a diagnosis of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptoma

The presence of both a pathologic external cervical resorption (ECR) and an iatrogenic over-enlarged root canal with a widened apex can significantly compromise the structural integrity of a tooth. Furthermore, regular restorative-endodontic management of the involved tooth poses many procedural challenges and difficulties. However, a multi-modal approach involving nonsurgical and surgical procedures with the application of advances in endodontics can help to manage and salvage such a tooth. This article aims to report on a case of multi-modal management with the application of cone-beam compu
