Injury to the permanent central incisors due to trauma in the maxillofacial region, though common, may result in an uncommon sequel. We report a case of traumatic injury in a 5-year-old child with displacement of the tooth bud into the nasal floor. The identification of ectopic tooth buds poses little diagnostic challenge due to the available imaging facilities, however, in the present case the ectopic bud remained unnoticed and resulted in ectopic eruption of the tooth in the nasal cavity 1 year later. This report highlights a rare case of nasal eruption of a permanent tooth and places stress

A 17-year-old male presented with a 3-month history of cough associated with right-sided purulent rhinorrhoea and right facial pain. Nasal endoscopy confirmed the presence of mucopus from the right middle meatus. Plain sinus X-ray assessment showed the presence of an ectopic molar in the right anterosuperior aspect of the maxillary sinus entrapped in soft tissue. Surgical removal of the tooth and the diseased antral tissue was undertaken via a Caldwell-Luc procedure with resolution of symptoms.

Developmental and eruption abnormalities are common and can result in progressive dental diseases. Ectopic eruption of the affected tooth may be the result of these processes. This study aims to report the occurrence of a permanent mandibular tooth in a horizontal position, with retention of the corresponding deciduous tooth, in a miniature horse. A 2-year-old female miniature horse was admitted to the veterinary hospital with a hard swelling on the left mandibular ramus, which had been growing continuously for three months. After a complete evaluation, it was concluded that the swelling was t

Ectopic eruption of teeth into regions other than the oral cavity is rare although there have been reports of teeth in the nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, palate, chin, and maxillary sinus. Occasionally, a tooth may erupt in the maxillary sinus and present with local sinonasal symptoms attributed to chronic sinusitis. We present a case of an ectopic maxillary third molar tooth that caused chronic sinusitis in the maxillary sinus.

Resorption of the distal root of primary second molars is a common consequence of ectopically erupting permanent first molars. Here, we report 2 unusual cases of primary molar root resorption caused by reversible (self-correcting) ectopic eruption of premolar and canine teeth. In both cases, severe pathological resorption of the mesial roots of primary molars was detected on routine dental radiographs, and the affected molars remained asymptomatic until exfoliation. The purpose of this paper was, using 2 case studies, to highlight the possibility of primary root resorption as a sequel of self-

The associations between tooth and eruption disturbances in four groups of children selected primarily with only one diagnosed eruption or developmental disturbance in each group was analysed. Ninety-two children were primarily diagnosed with ectopic eruption of maxillary first permanent molars, 93 children with infra-occlusion and ankylosis of primary molars, 91 children with ectopic eruption of maxillary canines, and 97 children with aplasia of premolars. Of the children studied 69-79 per cent had only a single one of the four disturbances studied. In 18-28 per cent there was one additional

The study describes a multidisciplinary treatment of fenestration in the apical of a primary maxillary right central incisor due a trauma and also its sequel, an ectopic eruption of the permanent maxillary right central incisor, on 7-year-old boy. Clinically, the primary tooth had an enamel and dentin fracture with no pulp exposure. There was an apical fenestration in the vestibular region, and the permanent tooth had an ectopic palatal eruption. The primary tooth was extracted, and for the physiological reposition of the permanent tooth, which was crossed with its antagonist, a Haas appliance

Intrusive luxation of primary teeth carries a high risk of damage to underlying permanent tooth germs. Ectopic eruption of permanent incisors is an unusual outcome of traumatic injury to their predecessors. In this case report, we describe the multidisciplinary management of the consequences of a primary tooth intrusion that led to severe ectopic eruption of the permanent left central incisor in a horizontal position at the level of the labial sulcus.

Unilateral ectopic eruption in an infratemporal region (ITR) is rare and hardly documented a couple of times. However, the bilateral third molar in the ITR presented here is rarely described. ITR has a complex anatomy and is a house of many vital structures. Ectopic eruption of a tooth in this region may manifest in different ways depending on the effected anatomical structure. In this article, we report bilateral ectopic erupted third maxillary molar tooth that was found in a dry human skull. The tooth was partially erupted on both sides from the infratemporal surface of the maxilla, and the

BACKGROUNDS: This article presents the alternative surgical treatments of both anterior protrusion by carrying out retraction on mandibular anterior fragment, meanwhile applying retraction force on maxilla anterior teeth and ectopically erupted canine with using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF).
METHODS: Anterior segmental osteotomy was combined with linear corticotomy under local anesthesia. The correction of right ectopic canine was achieved through 2 stages. First, dento-osseous osteotomy on palatal side was performed. Then second osteotomy with immediate manual repositioning of the canine with

Ectopic eruption originates from the malpositioning of a tooth bud ending in the eruption of the tooth in an improper direction. This anomaly is a consequence of ectopic development of the tooth germ. This condition gives rise to significant aesthetic and occlusal issues in the early mixed dentition stage. The most frequently influenced teeth are the maxillary first molars, accompanied by the maxillary cuspids. Ectopic eruption is seldom seen and might derive from traumatic injury. In some cases, hyperplastic and fibrotic gingival tissue may lead to ectopic eruption of a permanent incisor. Man

Ectopic eruption into the dental environment is common, whereas eruption into other sites is rare. Diverse anatomical locations such as the mandibular condyle, coronoid process, palate, maxillary sinuses and nasal cavity can infrequently be the site of ectopic tooth eruption. One of the nondental sites for ectopic eruption is the maxillary sinus. Here, we present a case of dentigerous cyst with an ectopic maxillary canine tooth located below the floor of the right maxillary sinus in a 37-year-old man.

Ectopic eruption results from a disturbance in tooth development and eruption, leading to an erupted or non-erupted tooth being in an unexpected anatomical location. This retrospective case series describes the location, position, form, and clinical signs associated with ectopic eruption in dogs. Thirty-five dogs (46 teeth) were diagnosed with ectopic eruption at three clinical practices during 2017-2020. The cases were described in terms of the location, the development and eruption status, the clinical signs, the consequences, and the treatment performed. The collected data were statisticall

Ectopic eruption of a permanent tooth involves abnormal resorption of a portion or all of the adjacent primary tooth. Among the most commonly ectopically erupted teeth are the permanent first molars. Ectopically erupting molars may require intervention to allow for full eruption, or they may spontaneously self-correct and erupt into occlusion. Decisions regarding the necessity of intervention, its ideal timing, and intervention type are multifactorial. Treatment options for the ectopically erupting permanent first molar include the elastomeric separator, brass wire, pre-fabricated clip separat

Ectopic eruption is a deviation from the normal eruption pattern, making the tooth erupt out of its normal position, and possibly causing resorption of adjacent primary teeth. A wide range of etiological factors may be responsible for ectopic eruption of the teeth, so their management depends on the correction of the established etiological factor. The present case report describes an unusual case of ectopically erupted central incisor encased within an abnormally thickened labial frenum, which was treated by orthodontic repositioning of the ectopically erupting tooth after frenectomy.

Eruption of tooth into place other than tooth-bearing region is defined as ectopic eruption. Although ectopic eruption of tooth is rare, there have been cases in the maxillary sinus, mandibular condyle, nasal cavity, chin, palate, and orbital floor. Due to ectopic teeth's rarity and lack of consensus for ıts treatment, incidence was entitled to be added to literature and discussed. It was reported that odontogenic tumors and cysts can develop around the ectopic tooth. Thus, ectopic teeth can be followed up regularly in case of no signs and symptoms. If the patient has unusual orofacial pain, u

Ectopic eruption can be defined as a tooth erupting in an abnormal position or orientation. The maxillary first permanent molar is the most commonly affected tooth. Correction of ectopically erupting permanent molars is critical for the development of a stable occlusion and is an important component of interceptive orthodontic treatment. The clinician can choose from a variety of effective treatment modalities to successfully manage ectopically erupting permanent molars.
