Intentional tooth replantation (ITR) is an advanced treatment modality and the procedure of last resort for preserving teeth with inaccessible endodontic or resorptive lesions. ITR is defined as the deliberate extraction of a tooth; evaluation of the root surface, endodontic manipulation, and repair; and placement of the tooth back into its original socket. Case reports, case series, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials have demonstrated the efficacy of ITR in the retention of natural teeth that are untreatable or difficult to manage with root canal treatment or endodontic microsur

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Although intentional replantation for extraoral treatment is a solution for complicated endodontic cases, it is accompanied with risk of root resorption which is most likely due to extraction trauma and infected remnants. Laser therapies have long been proved for bactericidal and biostimulation effects. In the present case, a pulpitis combined severe periodontal destruction molar was extracted with an Er:YAG laser for thorough degranulation and disinfection. Before the extraction and right after the treatment, low level laser therapy (LLLT) with 810nm diode was applied for

BACKGROUND: Blood-derived products, platelet-poor plasma (PPP) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), constitute an approach in the enhancement of tissue healing. PRP has also been used as a scaffold for bone marrow stem cells in tissue engineering. This study evaluates the effect of PPP, calcium chloride-activated PRP (PRP/Ca), calcium chloride- and thrombin-activated PRP (PRP/Thr/Ca), and bone marrow mononuclear cells and PRP/Ca (BMMCs/PRP/Ca) on the healing of replanted dog teeth.
METHODS: After 30 minutes of extraction, teeth were replanted with 1) no material (control); 2) PPP; 3) PRP/Ca; 4) PR

The conventional replantation technique has many drawbacks. The tooth may break during extraction; thus, teeth with diverged or curved roots are not good candidates for such a procedure. The occurrence of root ankylosis after replantation, with subsequent resorption, does not permit the replanted tooth to support any additional load, such as an orthodontic appliance or to be used as a bridge abutment. The procedure described here is designed to eliminate these drawbacks. The technique is based on leaving the delicate periodontal ligament fibers intact and transferring the wound created to the

Avulsion is a rare and serious traumatic dental injury that needs immediate and complex management. This case report highlights the successful management of an avulsed maxillary central incisor by replantation after a lapse of 120 minutes of being in an extra-oral environment and preserved in milk. A female patient aged 17 years presented with a traumatic dental injury sustained to the anterior maxillary region due to an accidental fall. Clinical examination revealed an avulsed tooth 21 that was replanted according to the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines and s

Aesthetic considerations have influenced the management of dental maladies in varying degrees for many years. Even single tooth mal-alignment makes the patient to approach a dentist. Intentional replantation is a procedure in which an intentional tooth extraction is performed followed by reinsertion of the extracted tooth. Many authors agree that it should be reserved as the last resort to save a tooth after other procedures have failed or would likely to fail. The main reason of failure in replanted teeth is root resorption, specifically ankylosis or replacement resorption. Although the succe

The purpose of this report was to describe the morphological changes in the alveolar bone after delayed replantation of avulsed teeth using three dimensional cone-beam computed tomography in 11 during the time period 2003-2012. The radiographic observations revealed the following: Delayed replantation results in ankylosis-related replacement root resorption; the resorption is delayed or arrested around the cervical area superior to the alveolar crest. The buccal bone is reduced in thickness but not the palatal bone. The buccal bone resorption of the alveolar crest progresses approximately to t

MTA has been investigated as a root-end filling material. Its mechanism of action has some similarities to that of Ca(OH)2. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repair process taking place in the delayed replantation of monkey teeth using calcium hydroxide and MTA as root canal filling materials. Five monkeys had their lateral incisors extracted and bench-dried for 60 minutes. After root canal preparation, the teeth were assigned to two groups according to root canal filling material: I, calcium hydroxide; and II, MTA. The same treatment sequence was followed for both groups: coronal

The authors have developed and tried a method for simultaneous teeth replantation with the use of a low-frequency ultrasound in patients with acute inflammatory processes. Teeth replantation was carried out in 50 patients, followed up for 1 month to 3 1/2 years. A combination of ultrasonic treatment of a replanted tooth and hole with periosteotomy and corticotomy rules out the development of postoperative complications, shortens the period of temporary disability in the patients with acute odontogenic inflammatory processes.

Tooth replantation is a clinical treatment commonly used for refractory periapical periodontitis, tooth avulsion, and autotransplantation. The condition of the periodontal ligament (PDL) is a prognostic factor that affects replantation outcomes. Various studies have been devoted to improving the repair of the PDL after replantation to improve the prognosis. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), an inflammatory mediator with critical effects involved in stem cell regulation as well as in tissue repair and regeneration, has been found to be increased after replantation. Thus, we hypothesized that the increas

This study evaluated microscopically the effects of root surface treatment with three different solutions in delayed rat teeth replantation. Central incisors from 30 rats (Rattus norvegicus, albinus Wistar) were extracted and left on a bench for 6 h. The pulps were extirpated and root canals were irrigated with 1% sodium hypochlorite. After endodontic treatment, the root surfaces of all teeth were submitted to a 10-min treatment with 1% sodium hypochlorite, changed every 5 min. The teeth were then rinsed with saline for 10 min and assigned to 3 groups with ten specimens each. Groups I, II and

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the influence of bacterial infection on the pulpal and periodontal tissues in replanted teeth using germ-free and conventional rats. Forty maxillary and mandibular first molars from ten 6-week-old germ-free male Wistar rats were used. The animals and all materials were maintained in a germ-free environment inside vinyl isolators throughout the experimental periods. Twenty conventional male Wistar rats served as controls. The first molars were intentionally replanted immediately after extraction. At 3 days, and 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after replantat

The absence or presence of root resorption on the root surface of a replanted tooth indicates an immune-inflammatory reaction. Since interleukin-6 (IL-6) is considered an inflammatory marker in bone resorption, this study aimed to investigate the association between clinical variables and polymorphisms in IL6, with the outcome of replanted teeth at 1-year follow-up. Altogether, 127 avulsed teeth that were replanted and had their root canals treated were selected for this study. Periapical radiographs were taken after replantation and after 1 year. Real-time PCR was used to genotype IL6 polymor

UNLABELLED: An avulsed tooth refers to a tooth that has been completely dislodged from its socket in the jaw, usually as a result of trauma or an accident. This is considered a dental emergency, and immediate action can significantly improve the chances of saving the tooth. Replantation plays a critical role in managing an avulsed tooth and aims to restore its function, esthetics, and maintain the integrity of the dental arch. Successful replantation depends on quick action, appropriate handling of the tooth, and proper postreplantation care. A male patient aged 7 years presented with a trauma

Transplantation and replantation of teeth are effective therapeutic approaches for tooth repositioning and avulsion, respectively. Transplantation involves transplanting an extracted tooth from the original site into another site, regenerating tissue including the periodontal ligament (PDL) and alveolar bone, around the transplanted tooth. Replantation places the avulsed tooth back to its original site, regenerating functional periodontal tissue. In clinical settings, transplantation and replantation result in favorable outcomes with regenerated PDL tissue in many cases. However, they often re

The aim of this paper is to present the clinical and radiological outcome of the treatment involving a delayed tooth replantation after an avulsed immature permanent incisor, with a follow-up of 1 year and 6 months. An 8-year-old boy was referred after dental trauma that occurred on the previous day. The permanent maxillary right central incisor (tooth 11) had been avulsed. The tooth was hand-held during endodontic therapy and an intracanal medication application with calcium hydroxide-based paste was performed. An apical plug with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was introduced into the apica

Avulsion is a serious injury which causes damage to dental and supportive tissues, ranging from 1-16 % among dental injuries and it mostly occurs in maxillary incisors. This report presents a case of replantation of a traumatically avulsed central incisor. The left central incisor of an 8 year-old boy with open apex was avulsed and was left in unclean and dry conditions. Tooth was replaced after 270 min and splinted. After 24 hours, tooth was treated endodontically. The calcium hydroxide paste was applied as intracanal medicament. After one year the calcium hydroxide was not replaced and was m
