BACKGROUND: TTV has been detected in almost every human tissue type or body fluid reaching near 100% prevalence. Several studies report mother-to-child postnatal transmission of TTV in infancy but the risk of transplacental transmission of TTV is still unclear.
METHODS: The blood and plasma collected postpartum from 100 mother-child pairs were analyzed using TTV-specific qPCR. Samples were collected from the peripheral vein of the mother and the umbilical cord.
RESULTS: Eighty four percent of pregnant women were TTV positive (median titers: 8 × 104 copies/mL; range: 103 - 3 × 107). The TTV l

Torque teno virus (TTV), currently classified into the family Circoviridae, genus Anellovirus, was first found in a patient with non-A-E hepatitis. TTV has a single stranded circular DNA of approximately 3.8 kb. TTVs are extraordinarily diverse, spanning five groups including SANBAN and SEN viruses. Torque teno mini virus (TTMV) with approximately 2.9 kb genome also has wide variants. Recently, two related 2.2- and 2.6-kb species joined this community. Recombinations between variants are frequent. This extensive TTV diversity remains unexplained; it is unclear how TTVs could be viable, and why

Torque teno virus (TTV) is a ssDNA orphan virus belonging to the Anelloviridae family, but some recent studies suggested its possible involvement in central nervous system (CNS) pathology. We analyzed serum and cerebrospinal fluid samples (CSF) from 109 patients with encephalitis for TTV infection using serological and molecular testing, virus quantitative measurement, and next-generation sequencing-based (NGS) phylogenetic analysis. TTV noncoding region (UTR) and/or open reading frame 1 (ORF-1) sequences were detected in serum of 86 (79%) patients and in nine (8%) patients in CSF. Five of the

End-stage heart failure often requires heart transplantation as a life-prolonging treatment. Immunosuppressive therapy is necessary to avoid rejection, but is associated with serious adverse effects. New approaches are needed to monitor immune function in heart transplant patients. We here report the kinetics of Torque Teno Virus (TTV) after transplantation in a large cohort of heart transplant patients and examine its possible role in predicting rejection. We included 106 patients from Aarhus University Hospital and Oslo University Hospital. Patients were followed for 3 years with clinical as

Single stranded (ss) DNA viruses are increasingly being discovered due to the ongoing development of modern technologies in exploring the virosphere. Characterized by high rates of recombination and nucleotide substitutions, it could be comparable to RNA virus ones. Torque teno sus virus (TTSuV) is a standard ssDNA virus with a high population diversity, whose evolution is still obscure, further, it is frequently found in co-infections with other viruses threatening the porcine industry and therefore share the same host and epidemiological context. Here, we implement and describe approach to i

BACKGROUND: Although human torque teno viruses (TTVs) were first discovered in 1997, still many associated aspects are not clarified yet. The viruses reveal a remarkable heterogeneity and it is possible that some genotypes are more pathogenic than others. The identification of all genotypes is essential to confirm previous pathogenicity data, and an unbiased search for novel viruses is needed to identify TTVs that might be related to disease.
METHOD: The virus discovery technique VIDISCA-454 was used to screen serum of 55 HIV-1 positive injecting drug users, from the Amsterdam Cohort Studies,

Torque teno virus (TTV) has been proposed as a surrogate biomarker for immune monitoring in different patient cohorts. Historically, TTV has been associated with different liver diseases such as post-transfusion hepatitis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, but the virus's pathogenicity is controversial. TTV is a ubiquitous DNA virus, highly prevalent and mostly indolent in the general population. Thus, TTV viral load is more relevant than prevalence to understand TTV infection. In the context of liver transplantation, TTV viral load is modulated by the immune, viral, and inflammatory status. After

BACKGROUND: Torque teno virus is a small chronically persisting circular negative ssDNA virus reaching near 100% prevalence. It is reported to be a marker for immune function in immunocompromised patients. The possibility of vertical maternal-fetal transmission remains controversial but incidence rate of TTV DNA in children increased with age. TTV dynamics well studied for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as a predictor of post-transplant complications but there is no viral proliferation kinetics data for other patient groups or healthy individuals. The aim of this study was

Routes of swine torque teno virus (TTV) transmission have been minimally investigated in the pig population. Current knowledge suggests the faecal-oral route as the most probable way of viral dissemination. Other transmission routes, such as mother-to-infant, have been studied in humans, but no information is available for swine. Thus, the objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of two swine TTV genogroups, TTV1 and TTV2, in colostrum samples (n=61) and sera samples from sows (n=10) and stillborn pigs coming from them (n=30). Colostrum was fractioned into two components,

Few studies have been performed on the prevalence of Torque Teno Virus (TTV) infection in liver transplant (LT) recipients. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence, viremia and genogroup pattern of TTV among LT patients and to ascertain whether TTV causes liver damage in liver transplanted patients with biochemical and histological changes of unknown origin. Twenty-five patients were evaluated before and after LT; 80 healthy subjects were considered as controls. Serum samples were serially obtained from all the patients before LT and thereafter at 3, 6 and 12 months post-transplant.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Malignancy, driven by the effects of immunosuppression, is a major complication following kidney transplantation. The widespread and non-pathogenic TT virus (TTV) has emerged as a surrogate of the immune status of its host, with prior studies linking TTV load to insufficient and excessive immunosuppression and thus indirectly to graft rejection and infection. Its relationship to malignancy in kidney transplant recipients is unknown.
METHODS: This prospective observational single center study evaluated 428 patients who underwent kidney transplantation between 2016 an

BACKGROUND: Torque teno virus (TTV) and Torque teno mini virus (TTMV) are highly prevalent, non-pathogenic viruses from the Anelloviridae family that commonly circulate in healthy individuals. Their replication dynamics are closely linked to the host immune status, with viral loads typically increasing during immune suppression or dysregulation associated with viral infections, transplantation, or chronic inflammation. Emerging evidence suggests that TTV may serve as a biomarker of immune competence, with increasing interest in its role during SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study investigated the

BACKGROUND: Torque teno virus (TTV), of the Anelloviridae family, Iotatorquevirus genus, is a non-enveloped, single-stranded, and negative sense DNA (ssDNA) virus infecting human and many domestic animals including swines. Very little information is known about the investigations of TTV prevalence in different swine breeds so far.
METHODS: In this study, 208 serum samples collected from seven swine breeds (Rongchang pig, Chenghua pig, Zibet pig, Wild boar, Duroc, Landrace, Large Yorkshire) from two independent farms were detected to determine the prevalence of two swine TTV genogroups, TTV1 a

Torque Teno Virus (TTV) is one of the most prevalent dna viruses identified in the vagina. while its presence under a variety of conditions is undisputed, whether this is of functional relevance remains unresolved. in this review we question the prevailing assumption that TTV is an endogenous commensal virus with no role in health or disease at that site. we present data from published studies, and extrapolate from relevant related investigations, to suggest that TTV is likely an active contributor to both vaginal well-being and pathological processes. the host immune response to TTV is review

Respiratory infections caused by influenza viruses are frequently associated with coinfection by other infectious agents. Torque teno viruses (TTVs) are small DNA viruses that can function as opportunistic pathogens and are epidemiologically linked to influenza viruses as well as a broad spectrum of infectious and immune-mediated diseases. Among TTVs, swine torque teno viruses (TTSuVs) are unique in that they have been shown to act as primary pathogens. With the long-term objective of developing experimental tools to better understand inter-viral interactions, this study aimed to optimize a mu

A new member of Anelloviridae, named torque teno mini virus (TTMV)-SH, was recently identified in the serum of three Hodgkin's lymphoma patients suggesting that TTMV-SH may be associated with this type of hematological malignancy. We investigated by metagenomic analysis the presence of TTMV-SH-related viruses in plasma samples (n = 323) collected from patients with various hematological malignancies (multiple myeloma (MM, n = 256), non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL, n = 20), acute myeloid leukemia (n = 10)) and from healthy donors (n = 37). TTMV-SH-related strains were identified in 24 samples corre

Systemic autoimmune diseases often require long-term immunosuppression to control disease activity and prevent organ damage. However, immunosuppressive drugs increase the risk of infections, which remain among the leading causes of hospitalization and premature mortality in these conditions. The persistent therapeutic dilemma between too low and too severe immunosuppression is a major challenge in rheumatology practice, and very few tools exist to evaluate and follow the degree of immunosuppression in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases. Torque teno virus (TTV) is a non-pathogenic singl

Renal transplantation is the ideal therapeutic implement for end-stage renal disease patients. However, late kidney graft defeat remains a main challenge. Torque teno virus (TTV) is a small DNA virus whose replication is strictly related to person immune status besides TTV Antigens could prevent organ rejection by regulating both adaptive and innate immunity through interfering with NF-κB pathway which decrease interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in renal transplanted patients. This cross-sectional study was conducted eighty serum samples were collected renal transplant recipients, DNA was extracted a

Viral infections have been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has frequently been investigated as a possible candidate and torque teno virus (TTV) has also been discussed in this context. Nevertheless, mechanistic aspects remain unresolved. We report viral replication, as measured by genome amplification, as well as quantitative PCR of two TTV-HD14 isolates isolated from multiple sclerosis brain in a series of EBV-positive and -negative lymphoblastoid and Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines. Our results demonstrate the replication of both transfected TTV g
