Gambling among indebted individuals: an analysis of bank transaction data.

BACKGROUND: Gambling is connected to important financial harms, including debt. Most existing research has investigated the relationship between gambling and debt using self-reported data. Only a few studies have used objective data. The current study focuses on the gambling of indebted individuals. It investigates the amounts and types of gambling consumed by indebted individuals, and the amounts of unsecured debt among heavy gamblers. METHODS: We use past-year banking data of Finnish individuals (N = 23 231) collected between 2018 and 2021 among applicants to a debt consolidation service. T

Successful treatment of multiplex alopecia areata using transactional analysis: a case report.

The patient was a 13-year-old female. Six years previously, she developed alopecia areata when her parents divorced. One year after that, the bald area drastically expanded when her mother remarried. She was treated at her local hospital; however, no improvement was observed. She then visited our hospital for examination. A bald patch was covering >80% of her head. Self Grow-Up Egogram indicated the basic interpersonal relationship stance of 'I am not OK, You are OK'. We therefore implemented a transactional analysis approach to increase the patient's score on the Free Child subscale. New hair

Transactional sex among women in Sub-Saharan Africa: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Transactional sex is casual sex between two people to receive material incentives in exchange for sexual favors. Transactional sex is associated with negative consequences, which increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and physiological trauma. In Sub-Saharan Africa, several primary studies have been conducted in various countries to examine the prevalence and associated factors of transactional sex among women. These studies had great discrepancies and inconsistent results. Hence, this systematic review and m

Visualization of Internal Working Models Through Transactional Analysis (TA) Developmental Collage Therapy: A Case Report.

Bowlby's Internal Working Model (IWM) is central to understanding adult attachment-related difficulties. However, what IWM concretely consists of remains unspecified, and no method exists for directly visualizing IWM. Because IWM is formed during the pre-verbal period, it is difficult to access through language-based psychotherapy alone. A woman in her 20s with a history of childhood stuttering and subsequent interpersonal difficulties participated in Transactional Analysis (TA) Developmental Collage Therapy. She created six collage works representing "myself and my surrounding environment" ac

Self-beneficial transactional social dynamics for cooperation in Shwachman-Diamond syndrome: a mixed-subject analysis using computational pragmatics.

BACKGROUND: Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome (SDS) is a rare genetic disorder with documented cognitive and behavioral challenges. However, its socio-pragmatic dynamics remain underexplored, particularly in cooperative interactions where social norms and economic considerations intersect. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the socio-behavioral dynamics of SDS, focusing on how children with the condition navigate cooperative interactions. Using computational pragmatics, we aimed to identify the underlying principles guiding their social behavior. METHODS: A cohort of 10 children (5 SDS, 5 matched c

Anxiety in the family: a genetically informed analysis of transactional associations between mother, father and child anxiety symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety in parents is associated with anxiety in offspring, although little is known about the mechanisms underpinning these intergenerational associations. We conducted the first genetically sensitive study to simultaneously examine the effects of mother, father and child anxiety symptoms on each other over time. METHOD: Adoptive parent and child symptoms were measured at child ages 6, 7 and 8 years from 305 families involved in the Early Growth and Development Study, using a prospective adoption design. Children were adopted at birth to nonrelatives, and composite data on intern

Recovering house price trajectories from sparse transaction data using functional principal component analysis.

In the real estate market, property prices are recorded only at the time of sale, leading to highly sparse transaction data. Recovering house price trajectories from such sparse data is therefore essential for accurate property valuation. This study models the latent price trajectory as functional data and applies functional principal component analysis (FPCA) to recover the underlying price trajectory. Real estate transaction data from the Kitsilano neighborhood in Vancouver is collected to validate the FPCA model. The first three eigenfunctions are employed to reconstruct the price trajector

The cost of caring for end-stage kidney disease patients: an analysis based on hospital financial transaction records.

The costs of care for end-stage renal disease patients continue to rise because of increased numbers of patients. Efforts to contain these costs have focused on the development of capitated payment schemes, in which all costs for the care of these patients are covered in a single payment. To determine the effect of a capitated reimbursement scheme on care of dialysis patients (both hemodialysis [HD] and peritoneal dialysis [PD]), complete financial records (all reimbursements for inpatient and outpatient care, as well as physician collections) of dialysis patients at a single medical center ov

Transactional Relations between Study Habits and Behavioral Problem during Middle Childhood: an Actor-Partner analysis in Chinese Friendship Dyads.

This longitudinal study examined the transactional relations between study habits and behavioral problems within and between children and the potential gender differences in the above relations during middle childhood in China. The participants were 260 children, drawn from 157 stable friendship dyads, who were initially in third and fourth grades (T1 Mage = 9.84 years). Parents completed internalizing and externalizing problem measures, children completed internalizing/externalizing problem and peer nomination measures and teacher reported study habits at two time points one year apart. An ecological-transactional analysis of children and contexts: the longitudinal interplay among child maltreatment, community violence, and children's symptomatology.

Cicchetti and Lynch have conceptualized ecological contexts as consisting of nested levels with varying degrees of proximity to the individual. These levels of the environment interact and transact with each other over time in shaping individual development and adaptation. With a sample of maltreated (n = 188) and nonmaltreated (n = 134) children between the ages of 7 and 12 years, this investigation employed a 1-year longitudinal design to conduct an ecological-transactional analysis of the mutual relationships among community violence, child maltreatment, and children's functioning over time

Lipid profile migration during the tilapia muscle steaming process revealed by a transactional analysis between MS data and lipidomics data.

In this work, lipid profile migration from muscle to juice during the tilapia muscle steaming process was revealed by a transactional analysis of data from ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with Q Exactive (UHPLC-QE) Orbitrap mass spectrometry (MS) and lipidomics. Firstly, the lipids in tilapia muscles and juices at different steaming time points were extracted and examined by UHPLC-QE Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Secondly, a transactional analysis procedure was developed to analyze the data from UHPLC-QE Orbitrap MS and lipidomics. Finally, the corrected lipidomics data and

Associations Between Mobility, Food Insecurity, and Transactional Sex Among Women in Cohabitating Partnerships: An Analysis From 6 African Countries 2016-2017.

BACKGROUND: Mobile women are at risk of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, although we lack evidence for HIV risk among women in mobile partnerships, especially in the context of household food insecurity, a growing concern in the region. SETTING: Women aged 15-59 years with a cohabitating male partner who participated in population-based HIV impact assessment surveys in Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. METHODS: We evaluated the association between women's and their partner's mobility (being away from home for more than 1 month or staying elsewhere) and transaction

Effectiveness of Short-Term Inpatient Psychotherapy Based on Transactional Analysis With Patients With Personality Disorders: A Matched Control Study Using Propensity Score.

Controlled studies on the effectiveness of inpatient psychotherapy with patients with personality disorders (PD) are rare. This study aims to compare 3-month short-term inpatient psychotherapy based on transactional analysis (STIP-TA) with other psychotherapies (OP) up to 36-month follow-up. PD patients treated with STIP-TA were matched with OP patients using the propensity score. The primary outcome measure was general psychiatric symptomatology; secondary outcomes were psychosocial functioning and quality of life. In 67 pairs of patients, both STIP-TA and OP showed large symptomatic and func

Transactional Sex, HIV Testing and Receipt of Results Among Adolescents and Young Women: A Comparative DHS Analysis of the Four Major Regions in Uganda.

Transactional sex, and HIV remain significant public health concerns in Uganda, necessitating increased HIV testing and results receipt among young females who engage in transactional sex. This study aimed at examining regional variations and factors associated with transactional sex, HIV testing, and receipt of results among young women in the four major regions of Uganda. Stata version 15 was used to analyze the 2016 UDHS data set. The study applied a binary logistic regression model to examine the predictors of HIV testing and receipt of results at multivariate level. Overall, 13.5% of the

Exploratory analysis of a Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway on anxiety and autonomy in patients undergoing PCI: a narrative nursing and transactional stress-coping perspective.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This exploratory secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial - originally powered for medication adherence - investigated associations of a nurse-led Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway, integrated with narrative nursing, with anxiety and autonomy following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). All psychological analyses are exploratory and intended for hypothesis generation, not causal inference. Findings were interpreted within the transactional model of stress and coping, complemented by narrative nursing theory, focusing on how narrative engagement may h

Costs and clinical outcomes in individuals without known coronary artery disease undergoing coronary computed tomographic angiography from an analysis of Medicare category III transaction codes.

Multidetector coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) demonstrates high accuracy for the detection and exclusion of coronary artery disease (CAD) and predicts adverse prognosis. To date, opportunity costs relating the clinical and economic outcomes of CCTA compared with other methods of diagnosing CAD, such as myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), remain unknown. An observational, multicenter, patient-level analysis of patients without known CAD who underwent CCTA or SPECT was performed. Patients who underwent CCTA (n = 1,938) were matched to those w

Ecological and Syndemic Predictors of Drug Use During Sex and Transactional Sex among U.S. Black Men Who Have Sex with Men: A Secondary Data Analysis from the HPTN 061 Study.

Threats to sexual health among U.S. Black men who have sex with men (MSM) may manifest in a context of social adverse experiences. Situational sex is one such context, which we characterize as sexual behaviors driven either by a desire to cultivate a specific sexual experience or attributable to social vulnerability. Two characterizations of situational sex explored in this study were drug use during sex and transactional sex. Guided by ecological and syndemic frameworks, we conducted a secondary data analysis of social conditions and sexual behaviors among a prospective cohort of Black MSM fr
