Description of a new Pratylenchus species from China (Tylenchida, Pratylenchidae).

Pratylenchus ekrami from maize (Zea mays) roots in Shenyang and luffa (Luffa cylindrica) roots in Dalian, China, are described in this paper. Nematodes from the two areas were identified consistently, and were characterized by a heavy cephalic sclerotization, extending posteriorly up to two body annuli, stylet 11-13 μm long, elongating conoid tail, and becoming thinner from vulva. Males were not found. Pratylenchus ekrami is close to Pratylenchus vulnus, but the most critical characteristics between the two species were the number of lip annuli, stylet size, and shape of stylet knobs. This spe

Multi-site evaluation of Chilean native rhizobacteria for the sustainable management of the walnut root-lesion nematode Pratylenchus vulnus (Tylenchida: Pratylenchidae).

Pratylenchus vulnus is the most damaging nematode affecting walnut (Juglans regia L.) worldwide, but evidence on the performance of biological control agents under commercial orchard conditions remains limited. We evaluated two native Chilean rhizobacteria (Bacillus mycoides 25 and Oerskovia sp. UCH-1055), previously shown to achieve >98% in vitro mortality and 76% biocontrol efficacy under greenhouse conditions, using application strategies combining inoculum concentrations of 106-108 CFU mL-1, with or without reinoculation after 30 or 60 days, alongside untreated and chemical controls. The study of parasites in recently established populations of invasive species can shed light on the sources of invasion and possible indirect interactions between the alien species and native ones. We studied parasites of the global invader Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in the Caucasus. In 2012, the first established population of Ha. axyridis was recorded in the Caucasus in Sochi (south of European Russia, Black Sea coast). By 2018, the ladybird had spread to a vast area: Armenia, Georgia and south Russia (Adygea, the Krasnodar territory, the Stavropol territory, Dagestan, Ka

Phylogenetic analysis of entomoparasitic nematodes, potential control agents of flea populations in natural foci of plague.

Entomoparasitic nematodes are natural control agents for many insect pests, including fleas that transmit Yersinia pestis, a causative agent of plague, in the natural foci of this extremely dangerous zoonosis. We examined the flea samples from the Volga-Ural natural focus of plague for their infestation with nematodes. Among the six flea species feeding on different rodent hosts (Citellus pygmaeus, Microtus socialis, and Allactaga major), the rate of infestation varied from 0 to 21%. The propagation rate of parasitic nematodes in the haemocoel of infected fleas was very high; in some cases, we

[IMPACT OF CASPIAN SEA LEVEL FLUCTUATIONS ON THE EPIZOOTIC ACTIVITY OF THE CASPIAN SANDY NATURAL PLAGUE FOCUS].

There is evidence that in 1923-2014 the sharp aggravations of the epizootic situation of plague in the area of its Caspian sandy natural focus after long interepizootic periods are in time with the ups of the Caspian Sea in the extrema of 11-year solar cycles. There were cases of multiple manifestations of plague in the same areas in the epizootic cycles of 1946-1954, 1979-1996, 2001, and 2013-2014. The paper considers the possible role of amebae of the genus Acanthamoeba and nematodes, the representatives of the orders Rhabditida and Tylenchida in the microfocal pattern of plague manifestatio

Inducing the Entry of Third Stage Dispersal Juveniles of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus into Cryptobiosis Through Osmotic Regulation.

Cryptobiosis is a state where organisms lose nearly all their internal water and enter anhydrobiosis under extreme environmental stress. The dispersal third-stage juveniles (pre-dauer juveniles, ) of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus can enter cryptobiosis through dehydration and revive upon rehydration when environmental conditions improve. Osmotic regulation is crucial for their survival in this process. In this study, specimens of B. xylophilus were collected from dead Pinus massoniana due to pine wilt disease in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. Following immersion in 8% potassium chloride (KCl)
